2006 MTV Video Music Award Nominees

I hope Prince wins. Any song that has a lyric about making you scream "like a white lady" deserves to win something.

Now that you mention it...they shoulda been invited. If there's any band that epitomizes MTV, it's Band of Horses. ...If I didn't mean that sarcastically, it would sound like Band of Horses suck, but I like Band of Horses.

The Astros got their 10th shutout of the season, winning 1-0 in San Diego. Hell of a game by both Pettitte and Jake Peavy. Lidge made things tense in the 9th, but struck out the side. The Astros have to go 37-18 to get 88 wins, which should win the wildcard, so they're in closer distance than in 2004 when they had to go 36-10 down the stretch. It can be done. I still wonder why they don't pitch Dave Borkowski more. All he's done over the past month or so is play "bullpen guard" at Wrigley and Petco.

She was supposed to be at Austin City Limits, but cancelled earlier this week. I was upset cuz I have a crush on her. I still get to see Neko Case, though, so it's all good.

    Ask Al: Part Two!

Should Adam Everett win the NL Gold Glove this season? Is he the best defensive shortstop in baseball, as The Fielding Bible proclaimed him to be?

Or they can talk about how Boston's gone "BELLI UP". If he does well, they can call it a "MIRA-CLE".

I'd like to see the Astros try to pick him up. He's been decently solid the last few years, and I think playing with his Dad would do well for him. Plus, I think he's like a .400 career hitter at Minute Maid Park.

Let it Die is good. Not great, but good. It's ecclectic. She has a great voice, but the album gets kinda boring during the second half when she starts doing covers. Her originals are good, though. Very poppy and French. They're not all "Mushaboom"-esque, but they all have good melodies. I'd recommend it. My girlfriend really likes it.

    2006 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

I heard a rumor that the Red Sox were gonna trade for Andruw Jones, and then they were going to trade Andruw Jones to the Astros for Roy Oswalt, who they were going to trade back to the Astros for Roger Clemens who they were gonna trade to Mets for Lastings Milledge and Heath Bell who they were gonna trade to the Astros for Brad Lidge who they were going to trade to the Mets for Roger Clemens who they were gonna trade to the Cubs for Greg Maddux, but the Cubs already traded Greg Maddux for Casear Izturis because he's got game-changing speed. All the rumors about the Houston Astros are about 85% false, at least that's what Milo Hamilton said this morning on the radio, and Milo gives it to ya straight.

I hate the trade deadline. Roy O is pissed as all get out. And he has every right to be. Last week I was 100% sure that he'd be an Astro for life, but now...I don't know that even a whole fleet of new farm equipment will keep him here after 2007.

2006 MTV Video Music Award Nominees

I am disappointed that Superwolf's video for "I Gave You" isn't nominated for anything. It's a great video. In any event, I haven't seen any of the videos nominated, but I can only assume that they're terrible because I don't like any of those bands. Wait...I like Gnarls Barkley and Chamillionaire, still...I've never heard of Panic! At the Disco or Angels and Airwaves. Are they...."screamo"?

I don't know if anybody mentioned it yet, but I hear that the Cardinals have picked up Jorge Sosa. Hmmm...he might be better than Jeff Weaver, but he's no Sir Sidney.

Yeesh, I'm glad this whole business is over. The Astros didn't make any moves, which is bad because we didn't add a bat, but good because we didn't get rid of Oswalt or Clemens or Ensberg, who hopefully can contribute. We have like...20 games with the Pirates and the Cubs before the end of the season, so there's still a chance that the Good Guys could pull one out. So, off the top of the head, what's the biggest trade that's ever been made after the trading deadline?

Clemens could order Lidge to be gone and Lidge would be gone. He's got pull. In other news, Steve Phillips just pissed me off by saying that the Orioles were going to trade Tejada for Oswalt and then the Mets were going to trade for Oswalt. Last nite, it was the Orioles that were going to flip Oswalt to the Rangers. I hate Steve Phillips. Right now Jayson Stark said that the Pirates are about to deal Oliver Perez and Roberto Hernandez to the Mets. He also is saying that Clemens is going nowhere. I trust Stark more than any other ESPN analyst. Lidge was on Dan Patrick and said that he's going nowhere, and Oswalt and the Astros are apparently now working on a 5-year deal. I hate the trade deadline.

Drayton's alot less rootin' and tootin' than you imagine, so just picture him as the crazy Texan from the Simpsons: My mental picture of Lastings Milledge. Despite the fact that I've seen Lastings Milledge and know that he's some young black dude with braids, here's my mental image of Lastings Milledge:

Drayton's alot less rootin' and tootin' than you imagine, so just picture him as the crazy Texan from the Simpsons: But yeah, according to Richard Justice, Mclane's ordered Lidge to be traded. The suggested deal that lands us Blalock, Greene, and Linebrink would work for me. I think in the long run, Lidge'll be fine. He just needs an offseason to work on his pitches and he's so deep in a funk right now that he needs something to help get him out of it. I wasn't at the game yesterday, but I heard that after he gave up the go ahed homerun in the 9th, they had some fans in the stands with a Lidge jersey that actually set fire to it while Lidge was walking towards the dugout. Things are getting bad. I wouldn't be surprised to see that trade happen. I'm just happy that apparently the Oswalt for Brian Bannister/Victor Diaz/Heath Bell/various other Mets shlubs is false. I can't see the Astros trading Oswalt for anybody, even if we are sellers. I'm gonna cry if Oswalt ever leaves. I love Roy.

I read in one report that hypothetically, they were gonna have Ensberg move to first. I guess they could've had Blalock DH or split time with Mora. I dunno.

It's looking more likely that the Astros won't be getting Tejada...and won't doing anything at all. If this article is any indication, I'm thrilled that the Astros are going to stand pat...even if we finish with under 70 wins. "It's over," an Astros official told FOXSports.com Sunday night. "We told them we're not dealing with them anymore." The Astros' frustration apparently stemmed from their belief that they had a Tejada blockbuster in place Friday night, only to have that deal and later proposals quashed by Orioles owner Peter Angelos. But there may have been another issue. The Astros, according to a major-league official with knowledge of the discussions, feared that the Orioles would flip their most prized acquisition for Tejada — Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt— to Houston's cross-state rival, the Texas Rangers. The Orioles, according to the official, intended to trade Oswalt to the Rangers for a package of three players — third baseman Hank Blalock, Triple-A shortstop Joaquin Arias and one of the Rangers' top pitching prospects. They also would have ended up with two other players from the Astros — third baseman Morgan Ensberg and shortstop Adam Everett — effectively making the deal a 5-for-1 for Tejada." htt p://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5831512

I'm betting 5th. The Astros look to not fall further out of contention when they play the Padres. It'll be the battle of pitchers having an off-year on Tuesday as Jake Peavy goes against Andy Pettitte. Last year, that would've been a marquee matchup. This year, it's just...eh.

No, he'd just have to deal with guys like David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Jason Giambi, A-Rod, Jim Thome, and more. Surely David Ortiz isn't as good a hitter as Aaron Miles. The new "StarkMarket" report says that a *ahem* Berkman/Lidge/Oswalt for Tejada deal was discussed. God, I hope that wasn't even discussed. If Oswalt or Berkman are traded for anybody, I'm gonna give up on baseball and be a Houston Dynamo fan. Are you fucking kidding me??? Who the hell would give up an all star closer, all star player and an all star number 1 starter for Tejada. Thats like trading 3 million dollars and getting 1 million in return. Here is the Stark Market report form ESPN.com. It was just updated: Link: ttp://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2522380 3 Miguel Tejada, Orioles SS 2 Miguel TejadaMARKET REPORT By late Sunday night, the Orioles had next to nothing in the works for Tejada. But if they don't trade him, it won't be because they didn't have some fascinating names thrown at them. Teams that have spoken with them say they actually discussed Roy Oswalt, Lance Berkman and Brad Lidge with the Astros, for instance. Oswalt apparently would have been viewed as the centerpiece of that deal. But because he was a year away from free agency, the Orioles then tried shopping him around to see if he (and possibly Lidge) could be spun into an even younger, bigger package. ...Looking at it now, I guess that it probably means seperate deals for Oswalt, Berkman, and Lidge, and not all three. But even Oswalt for Tejada or Berkman for Tejada would be terrible. If the Astros are gonna be sellers, be sellers, but do it within reason...I mean...yeesh.

Yeah...cuz that's just what the Astros need...another 3rd baseman having an off year. If Houston did do that trade, we'd still have too many corner infielders-Berkman, Huff, Lamb, Blalock/Ensberg... If Lidge is dealt, it should be to Baltimore. If one man can fix him, it's Leo Mazzone. Look at what he did for Russ Ortiz that one year... Lidge would be better in the AL. There he wouldn't have to deal with Pujols...or Aaron Miles. I just finished reading the most ludicrous thing I've read concerning the Astros trade speculation. Some Baltimore writer had an article saying that up until last nite, the deal was Miguel Tejada for Oswalt/Lidge/Everett/prospect. Trading Oswalt for Tejada would be like trading Santa Claus for the Easter Bunny. I mean, the Easter Bunny's nice and all, but...who the Hell likes Easter more than Christmas?
