    Scooter by Mick Foley

Yeah... pray it's not as depressing as Tietam Brown. (I haven't read Scooter, but after Foley's first novel, it left me with no desire to read any more by him.)

Best movie of 2007 so far?

...holy shit, you're right. I just checked, and in the past decade, Crash and Gladiator were the only ones released before October prior to the awards. In fact, at least half of 'em were released in January, barely weeks ahead of the ceremony itself. Why do you think that is? Distributors trying to release "Oscar bait" closer to the awards, or Academy voters just being too lazy and/or senile to remember any movies from more than a couple months ago? But it seems to be a recent phenomenon. Go back another decade, and watch the pre-September award winners rise to almost half.

Religious Tolerance & Religious Moderation Are a Joke

Yeah, although I think he was talking more about people reading it as an allegory for World War II than anything else. (Personally, I think it HAS to be at least partly inspired/influenced by WW2, the parallels are pretty obvious.) LOTR has magic, nonhuman races, and a decidedly polytheistic outlook on the world. Any parent who gives their kids those books to read while forbidding Harry Potter is an ignorant hypocrit. Good taste in literature, but still, ignorant hypocrit.

    CHIKARA Young Lions Cup 5

Ah, it's about time Chuck and Ric got off their asses and brought some more home grown Chaos Pro talent like Flexy Hexy out to play. Taylor is by far the best bet to win... which kinda makes me think that Quack will book someone else instead, everyone expects Chuck to go over.

    Smackdown spoilers

Yep, all entertainment. Like when Droz got paralyzed, not real at all, quite entertaining indeed. Or hell, when Eddie's elbow popped out of socket in gruesome fashion in his very first WWE match, wow, great special effects there. And they certainly wouldn't be saying that just to toe the company line. Vickie has already proven that she's not above working for the very business that indirectly killed her husband.

    Sherri Martel Passes Away

Then stop calling the wrestlers by their real names. Stop using their real families in angles. And while we're at it, stop breaking their real backs in the rings. Get some stuntmen to do that crap, and mix it all together with CGI, just like the movies. Wrestling IS different. There's no other show in the world where people pretend to be themselves on live TV. If everyone knows it's fake and doesn't care, like you say, why is the company worried that HDTV will show the missed punches in clearer detail? Why did they clamp down on WWE.com every time they started doing real behind-the-scenes stories? Why do the talent do kayfabed interviews to the press? Why do they never show Undertaker out of character, or Misterio out of mask? Even though they technically admit it's fake, they sure as hell still act like it's real. Nope. Remember the 10-bell for the death of Big Show's "father"? I think they did one for Al Wilson, too.

Best movie of 2007 so far?

And aside from bob's exhaustive list of movies, I'd be surprised if ANY of the movies mentioned here got nominated for a Best Picture oscer. Yep, that Academy sure has its finger on the pulse of the people.

Religious Tolerance & Religious Moderation Are a Joke

Because he wanted Lucifer to turn on him. Answered your own question, except for the "evil isn't evil" bit. Yes, He is that egotistical. He created the angels to endlessly sing his praises, and then created mankind so he could have free willed sentient beings to chose to sing his praises. Much like the annoying boss at work who forces you to dress in casual clothes on fridays, God gets to make all the rules, so he makes them according to how He wants the world to work, not according to our desires. And it's rules and beliefs like this (and those Christians who can't really answer these questions without either going into a long overcomplicated explanation of abstract theological theory, or just get mad and say you're going to hell for asking) that angered and frustrated me to the point that I quit the church and never went back.

    Sherri Martel Passes Away

Exactly. Wrestling IS different. John Cena is playing John Cena. Vickie Guerrero is playing Eddie Guerrero's widow. Half the roster goes by their real, shoot names. And the other half are required to pretend that they really ARE 50's greasers or whatever whenever they're out in public. And let's not forget their recent decision to stop putting anything resembling a shoot story on WWE.com, for fear that it would expose the business or whatever. But the Sherri debate misses the point. The WWE knew that someone could've died while they were running this storyline, yet they did it anyway. This company is run by horrible, tasteless people who have NEVER had any class. Why demand that they stop and and pretend that they give a shit about ethics and morality now?

    The Sopranos

People would rather watch Sharon Osborne than James Gandolfini. I think we just found the reason why the rest of the world hates us so damn much.

    Sherri Martel Passes Away

TNA is always happy to get a little "rub" from whoever they can name-drop for whatever reason. Will this affect the storyline? Not one bit. And it shouldn't. If Vince & Co. are sociopathic enough to think this was a good idea in the first place, they sure as hell aren't going to let the (premature) death of (yet another) wrestler (who worked for them) get in the way of it. It's just a bad coincedence that it happened the very same week as this angle. Hey, we all knew there's a chance of Vince dying in a car crash for real later that night, they just hoped nothing like that would happen, and, well, it did.
  13. Yeah, I have. Twice. Doesn't make the idea of ::GRAPHIC GENITAL MUTILATION DESCRIPTION DELETED BY THE MAN:: and dripping any easier to to accept on a peaceful friday morning.

    Oh Christ

I used to be able to put entire Cici's chains out of business singlehandedly. But my stomach shrunk or something as I got older, I can't eat half as well as I could.

Ex bodyguard of Lindsay Lohan tells all

It's a Robert Altman flick. He always used bizarre stunt casting. Remember how many movies of his Lyle Lovett got speaking roles in?

    Shirley Phelps Roper arrested

Personally, I think the entire Phelps cult should be drafted for immediete front line infantry service in Iraq, but that's just me. In this case, it sounds like the cops arrested the bitch as soon as they spotted her doing anything even vaguely illegal. They popped her as revenge for her protesting the dead soldier's funeral, the whole "flag desecration" thing was just an excuse to do so.

    Smackdown spoilers

Not exactly on topic, but amusing nonetheless, from the Wall Street Times: Not exactly the bottom falling out, but a significant loss by stock market standards.

    The Sopranos

Angel. The few heroes still alive are about to go into the last apocalyptic battle, and WHAM cut to black the instant it starts. Except it felt like closure, cuz the cut was at a much more appropriate point for an ending, it didn't feel like my cat just pulled the TV's plug out of the wall when I wasn't looking. Also, Twin Peaks ended in a slightly similar (ableit more disturbing) fashion, even though it was really cuz the series got cancelled, not a true ending per se.

    Smackdown spoilers

Hooray for the moral fans in whatever town they're at. 10-Bell Salutes are one thing that should never, never, never, NEVER, NEVER be used for fake storylines. It should only be a tribute to those who have passed away, period. (Remember how Lawler sounded pissed/upset during the 10-bell to Big Show's "dad"? That's why.)
  20. Jingus

    The Sopranos

But you're talking about it here as if it were scripture which couldn't be changed. It's not, it's just fiction, Chase made the whole thing up. And I don't see how that final hard cut is in any way better than spending ten more seconds for Meadow to come in and sit down. Chase has been interviewed saying that they weren't trying to mess with people or piss anyone off, he just felt that's the way the series HAD to end. And I really don't get it at all. He couldn't have guessed that copying the effect of what happens when someone's cable goes out just might've caused some negative reactions?

    Hostel 2

Exactly. And that's one of many reasons I hated the TCM remake: it changed the characters to make them more artificially disturbing and/or cool, focused way too much on "kills" and gore, and the creepy crappy house of the original was turned into a generic Rundown Horror Movie Mansion with art direction straight outta Silence of the Lambs and the thousand other flicks that ripped off Buffalo Bill's basement.

    Fucking Wisconsin

Whether the police find a gun or not, anyone found at the scene of a firearm-related crime will have theirs hands tested for powder residue to see if they'd fired a gun recently.

    Sid Vicious update

Depends, he was really inconsistent. Sometimes his punches looked like a kitten batting at a piece of string, sometimes they were okay. Sometimes he felt like taking a shitload of bumps, sometimes he barely moved. His best performance was probably against HBK at Royal Rumble 97; Shawn had the flu or some damn thing and was clearly off his game, so Sid actually halfway carried him thru that match.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

It's a risk, but a sensible one. That's $1 more than the store across the street that had higher prices and would've made $2, except the buyer went for the cheaper deal. When you've got a book that's guaranteed to sell out in massive numbers, in this rare case the quantity of books moved is more important than the profit per item sold.

    Sid Vicious update

Yes, I worked a show with him about two years ago. He looked pretty much the same as he always has. And cut a bizarre incoherent promo that the crowd still popped for. And had a really crappy match (but it was against a way-past-his-prime Bobby Eaton who couldn't even take the powerbomb, so no surprise there). And then dislocated a jobber's jaw with a single thunderous slap in the postmatch pull-apart. And he easily got the biggest audience reaction of anyone on the show, way outdoing Terry Funk's response in the main event. Yep, same old Sid.
