Ugh. That is NOT a good collection, considering all the amazing matches Pillman had throughout his career. Especially the tag-team cage match; if memory serves, it wasn't actually Steamboat and Douglas, but instead Steamboat and Tom Zenk underneath some kind of dumbass luchadore gimmicks. The Piper DVD on the other hand looks pretty damn cool.

What would it take for another boom period in wrestling to happen?
Jingus replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
Problem is, the chance of any of that happening is pretty much zero. Vince has proven time and time again that until he's seriously hurting financially and can no longer possibly ignore the fact that his product is stale, he sees no reason to change anything. They're still turning a profit now, so they don't see any problems. -
Am I the only one who doesn't watch any of the trendy new shows these days? 24, Lost, Prison Break, OC, Monk, Psych, House, Entourage, Rescue Me, The Shield, The Office, My Name Is Earl, all that stuff. None of it appeals to me.

Um. Are you kidding? I've never liked Russo, always thought he was one of the worst writers in wrestling history. The storylines from that era often made no sense whatsoever, contradicted themselves on a weekly basis, and had inane plot twists that existed for no reason other than to "swerve" us stupid marks. And furthermore, Russo didn't write Austin's stuff. Vinnie Mac, JR, and Austin himself came up with most of it. (To prove this, just listen to any Russo interview where he brags about how great he used to be: he'll always take credit for Rock and Goldust, but never claims to have written Austin's material.) -
WEW - Women's Extreme Wrestling PPV Taping Tonight
Jingus replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in General Wrestling
"Airing"? WEW has mostly just put out their DVD collections in the past (which have mostly been terrible). Weird to see actual wrestlers like Mickie Knuckles and Mercedes Martinez working for this company, which in the past has mostly been content to throw ex-strippers into the ring and call it a day. -
What would it take for another boom period in wrestling to happen?
Jingus replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
It all relies on having a new red-hot crossover superstar. Period. Nothing else. Because, look back at the previous two boom periods. The first one in the 80s was purely due to Hulkamania. Yeah, having the quality supporting talent like Piper and Savage certainly helped, but without Hogan's massive popularity it wouldn't have happened. Same thing in '98: Stone Cold Steve Austin. The company sold more Austin 3:16 shirts than every other t-shirt combined. This example also kills the whole "competent writing and good booking" idea: the writing and booking from fall of '97 to spring of '98 was TERRIBLE. Russo's crash-tv theory ruled the day. Feuds were started and then abruptly forgotten with almost WCW-like quickness. Characters were randomly turned babyface and heel on almost a daily basis. (Example: I dare anyone to give me a complete synopsis of the Taker/Kane feud from that time period.) Steve Austin put that company on his back and carried it from near-bankruptcy into billion-dollar success. So, for a new mega-boom period, we need a new superstar. One who the WWE has NOT tried to push to the moon already. That eliminates guys like Cena, Orton, Edge, and Batista; the audience has already seen those guys, knows them well, and aren't willing to watch them in the kind of numbers that tuned in every Monday night in 1999. -
Nah, "Justin Potent" was the most common one, along with "Justin Asshole". ECW has been mostly a really godawful TV show ever since it debuted on Sci-Fi, and pathetic worked shilling previews like the one Bob posted ("Watch our show because SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN") certainly don't make me want to watch any more.

This isn't the 1980's and 90's anymore my friend. No, but neither was last year, and at least they actually gave us some FINISHES then. Last night's ppv didn't blow off a damn thing except for the DX-McMahon match, and was loaded with bullshit ripoff finishes that seem custom-designed to drive viewers away from ever paying to watch this shit again.

Whoa. Creepy. Got any advice on lottery numbers?
-
So... that would be a BAD thing... which is why I shake my head in disbelief at some of the shit that indy feds let their wrestlers get away with in terms of putting their hands on the fan.

Who here supports the current administration?
Jingus replied to Your Paragon of Virtue's topic in Current Events
Oh, and for those wondering, over at that foaming-at-the-mouth conservative haven known as The Pit where everyone bows down to the altar of Dubya, the current vote is 13-12. -

Yeah, neocon's a gimmick. We've got a mild plague of gimmick posters, plus a bunch of people from TSM who changed their names, plus various lurkers, so it's damn near impossible to keep track of who's who at times. -

Good idea. -
Lots of smart marks just hate big hossy heavyweights, period, no matter what. In Albert's case, it doesn't help that he's had a bunch of shitty gimmicks and never had a real chance to get over.

Why is everybody so blindly enthusiastic here? If Cornette did take over booking duties at TNA, there's a lot of bad things that could result. 1. Say goodbye to the X Division. Cornette is infamous for hating high-flyers and spot wrestling. 2. Cornette doesn't play well with others. He insists on getting his way, and only his way. If he had full creative control over TNA, he wouldn't listen to anybody else and would demand that everyone follow all his directions to the letter. If he didn't have full control, he'd eventually get fed up and quit or get fired, just like he has every time he's been forced to work on a booking committee. 3. Cornette has a very old-fashioned view of wrestling. Say hello to more Jarretts and Armstrongs on television, say goodbye to AJ Styles in the main event and all those multi-man X Div. scramble matches.

I don't care. Fight fire with firepower.

So, does this guy live in a heavily guarded compound with armed security and such? Cuz if not, why hasn't someone just shot him in the head whenever he stepped outside his door?

Two teens beat another one to near death...
Jingus replied to Your Paragon of Virtue's topic in Current Events
So you're advocating locking someone up for life with no parole if they punch a black guy just cuz he might not like the darkies? Ooooookay. And you can't "prove" someone's a serial killer after just one murder. The very definition of "serial killer" is someone who commits a series of similar murders without any material motives. -
But the laws in Japan back twenty years ago are quite different from American laws now. All it would take to completely bankrupt a promotion like ROH is just one stupid incident of a wrestler hitting a fan, one good civil trial lawyer, and one sympathetic judge. These promotions are seriously risking their future whenever shit like this is pulled.

Okay, now knowing this other fact DOES establish that the one kid has a provable history of committing violent crimes against people of a particular race. (Although it still leaves the door wide open for the other perpetrator.) But I still think that hate crime laws are bullshit. Just sentence the little psychopath to a whole buncha years in prison because he almost killed a guy, end of story. -
Yeah, I spotted that too, weird, that's a really obscure reference. Decent episode for once that was finally more about humor than mocking whatever Matt & Trey were pissed off at this week (although they still did some of that too).

The English dubbing and English subtitling are usually done by different companies, resulting in completely different translations in the two.

No need to preach to me on that one. I had a good friend die from abusing OCs. BUT, street-bought heroin is still way, way more dangerous than any pain pill manufactured by a pharmaceutical company and approved by the FDA ever could be.

Arrgh, Wednesday night, just when I've already got to pick between an indy wrestling show, a local wrestling-themed talk radio show, and South Park. Sorry, I won't be listening.
