Yeah, all these "Let 'em fry/let 'em rot" sentiments are completely ignoring how our penal system is based upon the idea of rehabilitation, that a person can atone for their past sins and learn to become a better human being through punishment. It doesn't always work, hell it doesn't seem to work half the time, but it's an ideal that I don't think we should sacrifice.

It's because I think weed is relatively harmless, and shouldn't be illegal. Heroin on the other hand tends to turn its users into complete addicts after the FIRST time they use it, and if you stop using it (without methadone) the withdrawal can actually kill you. No product like that should ever be legal for human consumption. Plus, about half the poppy fields that help produce it are located in the Middle East... guess where all that money ends up.

And I completely disagree with that. Either someone is a violent type of person, or they're not. If they're violent, they're gonna attack people, regardless of what their motivation is. If they're not, then what does it matter if they're racist, as long as they're not doing anything about it? My point was, people say a lot of bizarre and stupid stuff when they're engaged in highly emotional situations like a physical attack. You shouldn't judge their entire character by the fact that they called him names while they beat him; you should judge their character by the fact that they BEAT him. Punish the crime. Don't punish what they were thinking while they committed the crime.

Not the part about there being no real proof that this was a "hate crime", cuz there wasn't. So what if they were calling him a spic or something? I'd say the fact that they were stomping on him with steel-toed boots and raping him with a pipe is the important issue here, not whatever they were saying while they were doing it.

There's no proof here that this crime was racially motivated at all. Sure, they supposedly yelled racial slurs at him while beating him up, but if I was in beating the shit out of someone that I was enraged at, I'd be calling him stuff like "little n*gga bitch" even if he was a huge Asian dude.

However, part of me says that they wouldn't make an error THAT large in translating, since Mary's virgin-ness is one of the ways that the Bible "proves" Christ's divinity (in quotes because I know that what the Bible says doesn't really prove anything); I don't think that someone just accidently translated "young woman" to "virgin" and went "Holy crap, his mom was a virgin?", know what I mean? No, it's a little more complicated than that. You see, in various Old Testament prophecies, it's said that the Messiah will be born from a virgin. The controversy comes in the New Testament translations over whether Mary really WAS a virgin or not. Ergo the Christian scholars who later translated that text definitely had reason to claim that she was a virgin, regardless of the truth.

Saw it, didn't nut in my shorts over it but thought it was pretty damn good. I had no problem with the English voice acting, including Suvari who did a perfectly acceptable job, except for the weird decision to make Cait Sith talk in a thick Scottish accent. I do wish there was a little less Turks and a little more of the FFVII main cast, but there were indeed a couple of major mark-out moments (the summoned monster fight, Sephiroth appearing).

Yawn. The episode was better than last week's, but that's not saying much. And the jokes about Gore got old fast, by the end I was really tired of hearing the words "serial" and "manbearpig". Cartman hoarding the treasure was the only part that made me laugh.
