Verdict in for trainee Brian Ong's fatal injury

Like I've said a million times, wrestling is REALLY fucking dangerous. You can get crippled or killed on the stupidest little moves. And I'm sure Roland Alexander had all his trainess sign waivers, when it comes down to it such things are just a piece of paper and any decent lawyer can get around them.
  2. Plenty of people are scared shitless by the terrorists, whether it's for good reason or not. On a recent plane ride I was on, one of the passengers was a Middle Eastern man wearing a turban, and I was the only other passenger who had the balls to sit anywhere near him.

    Terror Bombing in London

Justice pretty much said my feelings on the matter. Lots of these terrorists aren't reacting to any actual "wrongful behavior" from America or anyone else. Osama Bin Ladin said, over and over again, that the 9/11 attacks were committed because we had troops stationed in Saudi Arabia, the Muslim homeland. This despite the fact that the Saudi government ASKED for our troops to be stationed there, and that the main reason they were there in the first place was to keep an eye on secular dictator Saddam Hussein in case he tried to invade any more Islamic countries. Some of these people simply aren't sane. They do not behave in a rational manner in accordance with the known facts. They cannot be reasoned with. The only way to deal with them is either imprisonment or death.

Damn. That sets a legal precedent which could change the entire face of wrestling over time.

    Fun with a Kitty

...Ripper, you're really Superman and you've just been hiding it from us all this time, haven't you? Beating up roving gangs of preppy assholes AND saving stray kittens from Atlanta rush-hour traffic. Jesus. You're like a walking cliche of macho manliness.

The One and Only Buffy & Angel Thread

Fray is a decent way to kill an afternoon when you've got nothing better to do, but it's not a must-have. It's interesting, but it's set so far in the future that it really has nothing to do with any of the Buffy characters. Although it does hint at some weird events that happen after the end of both series. For the various Whedonverse comics, I'd say the recent TPB Tales of the Slayers is the most interesting. It includes the story of exactly what happened to Spike and Dru in Prague, has a post-finale Buffy story that's kinda amusing, and a few other various odds and ends.

    Help Save Toby!!!!!!!!!

That was my thought too. How much real-world money has this guy made from some random website?
  9. But gore effects aren't really anyting to get that excited about. Hell, look at all the disgustingly gory Italian horror movies in the 70's like Cannibal Holocaust. Day had good gore effects because they hired Tom Savini, no other reason.

I talked to David Young today about Hashimoto, and his description: "Good guy. STIFF, but hell of a good guy."

The Hardest Game You Ever Played

Ayuh, that's a toughie. The three main problems: 1. "Weapon-up" items are way too rare, and those "weapon-down" cocksuckers are EVERYWHERE. 2. The bosses all require some finesse to beat, you need a strategy, you can't just blast away and hope for the best. 3. The last level (the UFO) is just plain too damn hard. Too many enemies that you have to sit there shooting all day, until they finally fall over from the weight from all the bullets in them.

The One and Only Buffy & Angel Thread

So whatever happened to Animated Buffy and Ripper, anyway? Did Joss just toss 'em on the back burner (or in the dumpster) while focusing on Serenity?
  14. I just didn't get what the commentary was supposed to be. To me, Romero has never been that good at it anyway; it's mostly just really obvious jokes. In Dawn: the people in shopping malls are like zombies. In Land: rich people are evil. Romero is many things, but a deep and thoughtful observer of the social zeitgeist isn't one of them. So the only difference is that you see where they land in Day. It's still exactly the same damn thing: human conflict comes to a head, zombies invade the fortress, evil people get eaten, a few good guys get away in a helicopter. Which death scene? I assume you mean the one where the guy's eye socket was torn apart. Yeah, that was pretty harsh. But still, I didn't see one gore effect in Day that wasn't very similar to stuff that had already been done in Dawn and countless other movies. Hell, I think Shaun nailed the social commentary better than Romero ever did. It had the Romero zombies, yeah, but what it did with them was utterly and completely different from any movie ever before. For once, the characters in a zombie film have actually seen zombie films before, and it influenced their actions.

    Terror Bombing in London

...what? That doesn't make any sense. "At the exact same time, at the exact same place" means that their drill would have been bombed, which doesn't seem to be what the story says.

    Games with too much movie!

Hell, 2D ANYTHING. I hate the current "wisdom" that says all games must be in 3D. Some game series (Castlevania comes to mind) are just wrong in 3D.

    Games with too much movie!

But there will always be people with crappy taste in games. And who decides what's crappy and what's not? You? Andrew? Everyone has a right to enjoy whatever the hell it is that they enjoy. I thought Secret of Evermore was an embarassment to Squaresoft's name, but if someone else liked it, yay for them, play it as much as you want.
  18. What point? "Soldiers are assholes"? There was no great social commentary, no memorable characters besides Bub, it was just a bunch of people I didn't like screaming at each other nonstop. How so? "Zombies infilitrate the fortress, eat all the bad humans, and some of the good guys escape in a helicopter." Exactly the same in both movies. Which Land of the Dead did much better, and in much more detail. I wasn't saying it was a great film, just using it as an example. Also, "bench mark for the genre"? WTF? Day had no gore effects in it that hadn't already been done in Dawn and a bunch of other horror movies. Nope, never seen those, never plan to. Rephrase: Day was Romero's worst zombie movie. Yes, in terms of the zombies themselves. So? Pretty much every zombie movie ever has copied Romero's design. But beyond that, Shaun had a truly original script and characters that were unlike anything Romero has ever done. And I totally disagree with every single thing you just said, but I guess that's the beauty about the subjectivity of art.

    Ring of Honor 7.8.05 Results

Vordell Walker: damn good, strong-style type. Lots of suplexes and matwork, but likes to brawl too, and has a pretty springboard moonsault for such a big guy. Throws some of the meanest chops I've ever seen.

The One and Only Buffy & Angel Thread

Austin. Spike would crap all over Gangrel and Taker, he hates phoney Halloween type stuff. And he hates authority figures, while he loves jumping into a random brawl with fists a-flyin'. He'd be a huge Stone Cold mark.
  22. I've heard a lot about how supposedly an unofficial army of Muslim foreigners has infiltrated Iraq; what I haven't heard is someone suggesting how to stop it. Iraq's combined lengths of its borders is a helluva lot longer than the US/Mexico line, and we've never managed to even keep that one shut.

If you didn't like Leisure Suit Larry, then you should give up on playing video games. And ever trying to score with chicks.

The Hardest Game You Ever Played

The Metal Gear Solid series fiddles around with stuff like that. In the first game, you had that battle with the psychic dude where unless you switched controllers, he could read your mind and the fight was a lot harder (but they did at least give you some hints about what to do). And in the second one there's various moments where the game designers are just blatantly trying to fuck with your head.

Best Movie of the Year Game

Night of the Living Dead. 2000? Those links don't really help much. You can't search by year on imdb, only by a combination of decades & votes, and the other site only goes back to the mid-70s.
