I just thought it was too Hollywood, for lack of a better term. The original TCM felt real, with ordinary-looking people and that creepy crappy house out in the middle of nowhere, and lots of the most disturbing things just implied. In the remake, all the teens were shiny happy MTV kids, the villains were way over the top, the gore went past the required level and into the zone where it was just a chore to sit through the violent scenes, you actually saw Leatherface's face, and the ending flat out sucked. I mean, why the Blair Witch ripoff? And, "no trace of Leatherface was EVER FOUND." No trace was ever found of a 7-foot-tall retard with no face and one arm? It's probably just because he fell into a creek and drowned like a week after the movie ended. R. Lee Ermey was cool, though. He's always cool.

Just how good were the Phantasy Star games? I've heard about them of course, but it's been years since anyone's really talked about them. For that matter, what other great Genesis RPGs were out there? Just wondering cuz I might be hauling the old Sega out of storage here sometime soon, and you never know what games might be floating around on Ebay.

I do think we seriously need some reform and overhauling of our legal system. The simple fact that you can demand millions of dollars for supposedly being called a dirty name is beyond ridiculous. Look at what all this has done to the medical industry: today's ridiculous costs and insurance rates are directly related to the massive payments often awarded in malpractice suits. Granted, that is a bit different, as a doctor's fuckup can end up killing you and thus deserves more cash, but the point still stands. I think today's "got a problem? sue someone!" mentality is one of the biggest flaws in our country.

My girlfriend at the time actually called the exact line "Somehow... I almost... believed him!" right before it happened. Oh, and the original ending (the lead hero dude dies, but his girlfriend has gotten pregnant, so them making a new life breaks the cycle of death) would've been much better than the generic "Thank heavens that all ended well, for a minute there I was afraid OH GOD THE PAIN" crap that they went with.

IHOP tends to be better quality food overall, but they are more expensive, some of them aren't open 24 hours, and the whole restaurant kinda has that "corporate" feel that you never get at a grungy little place like Waffle House. Of course, I've been present at more than one incident at the Awful Waffle where police were called to haul a late-night troublemaker away, but them's the chances ya takes.

If you're going into a movie that was made decades ago, or in another country, or on a budget of five bucks, or whatever, I say you forfeit your right to make stupid comments at the screen. The only time talking should be allowed is when you're giving the MST3K treatment to a shitty movie that truly deserves it. Some friends and I had a real fun time watching Final Destination doing that. And you should still try to sit far away from other people & keep it down so that you don't bug them.

By the way, when someone is talking during the movie: don't go grab the first theater employee you see and demand that they stop all this nonsense. That happened several times back when I worked at theaters. I did my best, but fucking hell, I was just a nerdy 16-year-old kid, what the fuck did they expect me to accomplish?

Tolerance, yo. The first time you got REALLY REALLY high will always be the most intense drug experience you've ever had. Don't try to recreate it; that way lies death by overdose.

Of course you must always question everything. But that's very different from always disbelieving everything the government tells you, which is what conspiracy nuts do. It's a matter of expectations: they already think that the government is their enemy, and when you start from an assumption and then look for facts to back it up, you'll always find those facts, whether they really exist or not.
