I think seeing a guy holding a gun would bring up a different kind of fear as opposed to a guy weilding a box cutter, like the United 93 situation. I'm more likely to bum rush the latter as opposed to the former. Even in a robbery where a knife or gun is brought in to play. My initial reaction on the gun is to try and talk him out of it but also giving him what he wants. If he had a knife, I'd seriously contemplate doing some hollywood action star stuff on him (if making distance between us isn't an a option and death was inevitable). When bullets are flying and bodies are splattering, I don't think it's tough guy adrenaline kicking in, it's praying to sweet jesus for mercy adrenaline.
