Best Sledge or Insult
CanadianGuitarist replied to Prime Time Andrew Doyle's topic in No Holds Barred
It's not that fun to say like the big word/small word theory, and in fact it's a little long. But I'm extremely proud of this one. A co-worked found out my bank pin number and wrote it in our communication log for all to see. My written response underneath was: "Steve is not the only Stickland who knows my banking habits. His sister (who incidentally, I hit on for spite a week prior) knows about how I withdrawl". -

My favourite sporting event of the year starts Thursday.

I'm just eager to here more interviews with Bryan Murray, who's exceptionally enjoyable to listen to, especially angry.

Rick DiPietro just made one of the best saves I've ever seen. Buffalo's down 2-0. Pierre Macguire: "Sometimes we're too quick to praise a team. A lot of us were praising Buffalo as the team to go all the way" This came with 50 minutes to play in this game.

Thank you. I was a bit worried about my posting it, since the guy who told me was a high school teacher of mine (and this was over 5 years ago already), who I'm told has a shrine to himself in his hallway.

Noooo. It got dropped to KFC for PR reasons, as 'fried' got bad press over the last 30 years.

That would be about the worst reason to give it to any goalie. He started 78 games! If his team's any good, of course he'll set the wins record! Dan Cloutier had three straight 30-win seasons, and he was terrible! Andrew Raycroft won 37 games this season! Win total is a meaningless stat! If he'd played more, I'd give the Vezina to Backstrom. But, he only played half the season, so I'd say it's a toss-up between Brodeur and Luongo, with Brodeur getting it because his numbers are very slightly better. "It was cold out that day, so I decided to take my sweater! I pulled the knob, but the candy bar didn't come out!" I see where you're coming from, and a lot of this is merely covering my tracks. But, Brodeur was also third in GAA and second in PCT, and Backstrom was a debatable starter (41 games). The point about started games is extremely valid, but meaningless is ridiculous. There's an incredible difference between Cloutier's 30 win total and Brodeur's 48. That's over 30 points in the standings. Raycroft did win 37, and he's not that good, but could you tell him that 48 wins was meaningless?

You and I pretty well broke even, and the most successful was also a Bruins fan....if that helps. I've also got Therien as Adams, winning out of Ruff and Vigneault. I'd forgotten about him, good call Baron. As good as Lundqvist was the second half, as underappreciated as DiPietro and Lehtnonen (sp?) were, as important as Luongo were, Brodeur did set the record for most wins. He deserves it.

Ed Belfour was arrested again, this time for a, wait for it.......nightclub disturbance. Peltonen also was arrested outside the club for smashing a fire truck with a pole..(the fuck?)

Got my second-straight home opener for the Jays tonight, only a couple rows up along the first base line. Burnett gets the start, which scares me a bit after Wednesday's outing. I mean, the Royals aren't the Tigers, but the Jays struggled with the Royals the last little bit.

I'll agree with that. My angry reply was over his arrogance, not over his prediction.

That's not fucking necessary. Calgary = Went to the finals two years ago, with essentially the same team. Iginla, Conroy, Gelinas, Regehr and Kiprusoff are there. Granted, Commodore's not there anymore. But Tanguay, Huselius and Phaneuf are. The wings no longer have Yzerman, Shanny or the President's Cup. Know what else they don't have? A win over Calgary the last time they met in the playoffs. I'm not saying Detroit will be a cakewalk, but you shouldn't have insulted Canadian fans.

Two things I remember, one in grade 10, the second in grade 11. Grade 10 - I don't even know how, but I had to repeat the word slut louder and louder for about 15-20 times. Grade 11 - Our teacher was a pretty good guy, and said "I know a lot of you are probably a little shy to ask, so write anything down, here's some paper". The only thing returned was by Mark DiBartemoleo, who wrote "My girlfriend wants to mess around, but I'm not so sure. What should I do doctor?" The class went nuts laughing, and Dremano was trying not to laugh as he scolded us. I doubt if this counts, but my parents never gave me 'the talk'. They just showed me how to put a condom on a candle. It was during an episode of Raw. I was pissed.

This one just happened a few days ago to me at work at WalMart. I'm not sure if it counts, as the "victim" wasnt offended. Prelude: We use the word 'brother' to almost every guy in the store. You can surely see where this is going. A black guy came into electronics, where I work, and asked for help getting some furniture into his car, from the neighbourhing department. I told him I'd call a Store Standards guy, for whom I paged. He called back and I told him a carry-out was needed. He said he was about to do one, so I'd have to wait. I said "no problem, just need one when you're finished". We hung up, and it dawned on me about 10 seconds later that it might be the same carry-out. By this time, the customer had gone back into furniture. I went into the centre aisle to tidy up a mess, and I saw Dan, the Store Standards guy (aka Store Dandards) pushing an empty cart about 30 yards away. I shouted "Where's the carry-out, brother?" to Dan, but the customer popped his head out from one of the furniture aisles and said "right here, please".

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (8) Calgary Flames - Flames in 6 (4) Nashville Predators vs. (5) San Jose Sharks - Sharks in 7 - This will be the most entertaining series in the West. (3) Vancouver Canucks vs. (6) Dallas Stars - Canucks in 6 (2) Ducks vs. (7) Minnesota Wild - Ducks in 6 (1) Buffalo Sabres vs. (8) New York Islanders - Sabres in 4 (4) Ottawa Senators vs. (5) Pittsburgh Penguins - Senators in 7. (3) Atlanta Thrashers vs. (6) New York Rangers - Rangers in 5. (2) New Jersey Devils vs. (7) Tampa Bay Lightning - Bolts in 7. Finals: Calgary over Buffalo in 6. Smythe: My boy Iginla.

So none of us are very good predictors; These are the questions posted by CC in October: Who will win the Hart? Few for Ovechkin, few more for Jagr and also votes for Kipper and Iginla. Max was probably the closest with Thornton. Vezina? Five of us said Kipper. Other votes included Lundqvist and Vokoun. TakerHart likely will take this one. He had Brodeur. Calder? We'll rule out Staal, Wolski, and Kessel (who was picked by 3). King had Kopitar; LightingFlik, CC and myself had Malkin. We'll see. Ross? Two with Ovechkin, single votes for Selanne, Jagr, and Jordan Staal. Honourable mention to Nskie, Max and King with Thornton, but only LightningFlik had Sid the Kid. Richard? Cheechoo, Iginla, Jagr and Nash all had single votes. Two for Gaborik, and four for Ovechkin. I had a 3-way tie, but only I said Heatley, who was the closest. Best/worst offseason move and biggest disappointment etc. are pretty subjective. But worth noting: I had Ottawa and Pittsburgh as being the most disappointing (d'oh), Max and Nskie both called Chara to Boston the best move, Ducks getting Pronger got a lot of ink for best move, Nskie also called Shero to Pittsburgh as the best move. Nskie ALSO called the Cup Hangover for last year's finalists (first time ever, mind you) and finally, every single poster called DiPietro's contract (in some form) the worst - The length will almost certainly be regretted, but this one isn't so bad yet. In the playoffs that weren't last year? King had 2 (Vancouver and Minnesota) of 5 (Columbus, Boston, Florida). I had Minny correct and Columbus incorrect. Max also batted .500 with Atlanta and Boston. TakerHart was 1 of 4 with Atlanta, but missed on Boston, Washington and Phoenix. Flik was right with Pittsburgh. Baron was well off with St. Louis. Nskie was 1 of 3 with Minny, but missed Boston and Columbus. Quinn and CanadianChris both were right with Atlanta, wrong on L.A. I’ll give this one a draw to me, Max, Quinn, Flik and CC. In last year, out this year? Another 2 of 5 for King (Colorado and Edmonton, wrong on Dallas, TB, NJ). I again did the half-trick with Tampa and Colorado. Max also hit 500 again, with Tampa and Montreal. Takerhart had 1(Montreal) of 3 (Tampa,Carolina). Flik was wrong with the Ducks. Scuba missed out on the Rangers. Nskie got all 3 in Montreal, Colorado and Edmonton. Quinn again was halfright (Montreal and Tampa). Chris was spot on with the Avs and Habs. Max and CC take this one. Division winners? King, Max, and I all picked: CAR, NYR, BUF, SJ, NAS, CAL – 1 of 6 apiece Takerhart: CAL, ANH, NAS, WAS, NYR, BOS – 1 of 6. Flik: NYR, BOS, CAR, NAS, SJ, CAL – 1 of 6. Baron: EDM, SJ, DET, NJ, MTL, TB – 2 of 6. Nskie: OTT, NJ, ATL, NAS, CAL, ANA – 3 of 6. Harley: PHI, OTT, ATL, DET, COL, DAL –2 of 6. CC: ANA, CAL, NAS, CAR, BUF, NJ – 2 of 6. Bold predictions? The less said of these, the better, except for: TakerHart called Pittsburgh to make the playoffs. King’s wasn’t bad (and miiiight still be correct) by calling Malkin to not win the Calder. Flik picked Nashville to make the finals, which could also still happen. CC’s claim that Phoenix would be in the playoff hunt until today, Max calling for Chicago to get in the playoffs, and Baron’s call of Crosby with only 60 points were all pretty outrageous in hindsight… I still have the playoff picks saved, but I’ll post them in June. Of all the finalists we picked, only CC and King picked teams that wound up qualifying for the playoffs.

So which was more harmful to Tiger? Par at 15 or par at 17? Discuss.
-
I'm disappointed beyond words that the Habs loss, and my subsequent Leafs' rooting, was for naught. If there's one thing I'll complain about from that perspective: Two 5-on-3's in the third. That's bad. Second: Who in the blue fuck calls a penalty in overtime, as happened today in the Meadowlands. BUT! Neither Toronto nor Montreal deserved to be in the playoffs, and neither team was screwed out of the spring.

Phil Mickelson is far more accomplished than Art Wall, but four bogeys, two birdies, then playing 15-18 two under is not a Masters-winning formula.
-
Phil is four back. If he gets out a half-hour before Tiger and Stuart, don't rule anything out. *Grasps at straws* Check out my NHL Thread post for my Tiger thoughts.

When did King drop the "of the 909" from his name?

Fuck me. This was supposed to be the best week of my life: Wrestlemania, 30 Hour Famine, Baseball starting, hockey season wrapping up, Mini Masters, real Masters. Instead, I get a 2000 dollar bill from the government, the Habs missing out on the playoffs, snow, snow, and more snow, Tiger eyeing a Masters win....I got laid this week for the first time in six months, but I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth. Anyone remember earlier when I said I essentially hoped the Habs missed out because they were playing like shit? I regret that. The Leafs, nor the Isles, are not playoff teams. The Habs showed brilliance many times this season. I'm sick to my stomach.

Tough luck, Leelee. Mick's around for the weekend, Adam Scott is not.
