Those were underrated. Someone still has a Leena one going....Pochoronella?

Pretty much status quo outside of Ernie and Adam. I'd have bet anything a year ago that Appleby would beat Howell III. I didn't even consider Stuart when filling out my brackets yesterday.
-
I'm absolutely fine with the standing system as it is.

First thing I noticed too. I agree with HTQ, and I'm not known to be nice to newcomers.

Halak will get the nod against Nashville tomorrow. Two slumping teams will face off in Washington tonight. A Sharks loss could have a tremendous effect on the teams around them, as there's only three points between fifth and eighth. It could also allow a glimmer of hope for tied-for-ninth teams Colorado and Edmonton, maaaybe even St. Louis. Edmonton's still got five to play against Minny *thinks wishfully*. Of course, Washington's lost four straight and are playing their third in four, in different cities no less.

Anyone check out the Ford Score 64? It's a great water-cooler idea, but it's going to be such an apples to oranges thing that it's gonna be scrutinized.

It absolutely illustrates your point earlier, Raza, but every Canadian would indeed buy a 97 Hart retrospective....maybe not with that title, however.

Hey Marvin, just shut up.
CanadianGuitarist replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in No Holds Barred
Well fucking done! A fine comparison, and much funnier if you've previously seen Kids In The Hall. I haven't seen much Kids in the Hall since they took it off of Comedy Central, but that was good stuff. What makes it so muc funnier? Nostalgia, basically. I think Marvin's alright. -

Pittsburgh's 16 (!) game point streak is over now, the Isles beat em 6-5 this afternoon. Of all the teams they lose to, it's one that's going to hurt the Habs too. Damn.

You can't say that on TV!
CanadianGuitarist replied to CanadianGuitarist's topic in General Wrestling
The Bret Hart rant on RAW was scripted to a point, he just wasn't supposed to go completely off like he did, though WWF had warned USA ahead of time. One of my favourite things about it was McMahon's self-censoring when Bret began punching officials: "He just hit Hall of Famer Pat Patterson! That dirty rotten son of a..." -
The Golf Channel all but blew Adam Scott as they picked him to fly through the Snead Bracket on their preview show. It's been grossly underlooked that this is a new course, which should at least semi-mute previous Match Play records.

Let's not put our eggs in one basket yet..I do like Halak, and two goals against with less than ten to play, while not catastrophic, is enough to make me not satisfied just quite yet. However, this should be enough to calm La Belle Province down for a bit. Give Halak the start Tuesday against Washington, but don't shell-shock him Thursday against Nashville. Maybe Halak will be the ingredient they need against the Islanders (which could be a HUGE game) on Saturday, who they always seem to lose to. After that, let's see what happens. Goaltending certainly isn't the issue in Montreal, and, regardless of how Abby and Halak handle the load this week, the Habs absolutely need a stay at home d-man by next Tuesday.

Tiger has lost to some no-namers before in this event....who's to say? I hadn't even considered the Henry-Ryder Cup factor....By the way, I said the same thing about Stephen Ames last February. That didn't turn out so well.

It does, they're 1-2 now. And you were right about the media....he had been written off quite a bit, it seemed to be, with so much potential and only the one previous victory to show for it.
-
Hey hey again! It's 3-0 Habs with thirty to play. This trumps the golf playoff earlier.

Kevin Lowe has said his team is not throwing in the towel with 23 games to go. But he has traded Marc-Andre Bergeron to Long Island for Denis Greshkebov, who isn't even playing in the NHL this season. The slumping Sharks lose to Dallas 5-2 this afternoon. They're only four points up on eighth-place Minnesota now. Still quite a bit of breathing room over the aforementioned Oilers, however. Double good news for the Rangers: A 2-1 win over Chicago, and Shanny is going to be ok, released from the hospital today. Hey hey! No score in Columbus! That's the best news I've heard in about, oh, seven games! (Especially with the looks of Charles Howell about to defeat Phil Mickelson in the golf playoff).

At Lushus' suggestion in the Greatest of the 90's thread, I re-watched Warrior vs Savage at WMVII. I'd forgotten not only how good the match was, but the retirement stipulation. Savage, of course, won the title a year later at WMVIIII. Fill me in how they worked around that rule?

Yeah, you;re right. Hey, maybe you did mean 12. After all, we did get to see thirty-or-so seconds of Shawn locked in the sharpshooter.

Mickelson makes a mess of the ninth hole, including a chunked chip on the green for birdie. He's looking at bogey and will likely make double. This is going to be a fantastic back nine, with past Nissan champ Allenby, as well as several major winners contending.

Royal Rumble Anthology DVD Box Set
CanadianGuitarist replied to Matt Young's topic in The WWE Folder
As a WM anthology owner, I second this. Even the ads for shirts and whatnot are missed. -
WM VI, WM XIV, and WM X-7 could all do really well. WM I, V and VIII probably could as well. WM X and WM XII would have the whole country of Canada buying it. Why would all of Canada buy XII? Can I assume you meant XIII? Which is a surprisingly bad show ten years later, save Bret-Austin (and the Chicago Streetfight was tolerable). My God, ten years later. I could realistically see III, VI, X, XII, XIV and X-7 being money makers.

I like that idea a lot. Similarly, I think they should do a best of Raw, by "season" (year). Have maybe 15-20 matches, include the best angles/interview segments, recap the major events at the time, etc. This would get unbearable with later years when there's so much crap going on every single week, but for the early years it would work really well. For instance, 1993 can include: Perfect vs. Flair, Career Match Shawn vs. Duggan, Lumberjack Match Kid vs. Razor Kid vs. Razor Shawn vs. Marty Shawn vs. Marty Marty vs. Doink, 2 out of 3 falls Crush vs. Yokozuna Bret vs. Bigelow Steiner Brothers vs. Quebecers, Province of Quebec Rules 20 Man IC Title Finalist Battle Royale Razor vs. Martel Kid vs. Shawn (There are other matches to add if there's more space.) Then you throw in some notable segments and recaps (Money Inc. creams Beefcake, Lawler runs down Bret, Gorilla throws out Heenan, etc.) and you've got yourself Raw Season 1. My God yes. I had a dream when I was 12, in which I was 20 and the WWF released a kiosk similar to a Kodak Picture Maker. This kiosk featured the ability, for 29 dollars, to compile any Raw moments you wanted onto a two-hour VHS tape. This had to be shared... Has there been a legitimate "Life of Austin" box set, apart from the few "Stone Cold Truth" type things?

Dave Keon night in Hogtown, preceding what should be an entertaining game as the Leafs host the Oilers. Important win for both teams. Andrew Raycroft will be starting his 19th in a row. Ditto in Montreal(save the Keon thing, of course), with the visiting 7th place Canes in town.
