I agree. Especially with musicians, I can't think of any musician who should qualify as a hero, or even a role model. What does a hero do to make him or herself a hero/heroine? They do things of great stature or inspire others. They also need to be brave. That being said, I can honestly refer to one of my three role models as a hero: Mike Weir. His great deed was winning the 2003 Masters, which inspired me to hopefully follow in his footsteps; The bravery in that act was his multiple 6 foot putts for par, nearly all of them in the clutch. By golf standards, that's brave. Bret Hart and Stompin Tom were the other two, by the way.

What a fucking waste. Well, he hasn't been indicted yet, and thankfully no one's hurt, but for Christ's sake. Reread the last line of the tsn.ca article, in which they talk of his community service and 'upstanding citizen' awards.

When it comes to fast food paper wrappers...
CanadianGuitarist replied to NoCalMike's topic in Food Folder
Anything bigger than a dime gets picked up. The Taco Bell rule applies to any Mexican food, fast food or not. When I first read the topic title, I interpreted it as "Do you collect any wrappers, etc." That's a lot less ridiculous since I cut a strip off my Arby's bag the other day that read "Go on. Hold your bag with pride." -
"Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast" about 90 seconds into a really metal song. No one seems to know what it is, even the guy who's computer I accidentally downloaded it from. Our guesses were Machinehead(which it didn't sound like) or Slayer.

We must have all heard that a billion times in 2001/2002. Though I'm sure that Nickelback has their share of fans here, considering the love that Evanescence, 50 Cent, and Dwight Yoakem get. This is not a defence of sappy Nickelback songs. But The Chilis have used that line as well.

I could see Vancouver winning the divison aswell, but if you really think that Calgary doesn't have a chance to win the divison, then your going to be in for a big time suprise. Vancouver could win the division? I'm going to be as bold as to say that last season's Panthers were, on paper, as good if not better, than what the Canucks will be icing six weeks from now. Luongo is the answer to Cloutier, which, yes, was the biggest problem for a team that was a legitimate Cup Contender for the last three or four years. But, problems not withstanding, Bertuzzi still had 70 points last year, and is capable of more as we saw in 2003. More importantly, the dressing room is missing a guy who's been there for six or seven years now, and was part of what was arguably's hockey's best line the last few years. One of the league's five best defenceman is gone in Jovo. Replacing him is Willie Mitchell, who I like, but is Alexandre Daigle levels of overpaid at 4.5 a year, at least at this time. Anson Carter will not be back, and he's coming off a career year. I do like the Bulis-Sedin combo, but wasn't Bergevin/Sanderson/Carter/Rucinsky supposed to be the perfect complement to the brothers Sedin? Don't get me wrong, there's no reason to think that Vancouver will miss the playoffs by a mile...But I don't seem them even remotely challenging for the Northwest Crown.

Good luck everyone, and pre-emptive thanks, KKK, for what already looks like an overwhelming amount of work.

Was it ever explained, kayfabe or otherwsie, what the deal was at SurSeries 95 with the wildcard matches?

Not to sound impatient, but let's say CanadianChris pm's you his picks. When I give my picks to you, can both be posted, or would his remain a mystery until a certain time? I hope that didn't sound condascending to you or CC, it's just that I generally follow this pretty closely on Sunday. I mean, with three weeks to go in the season and the potential to just pick the same as your opponent to trump his chances of winning, maybe. Oh yeah, KKK...CanadianChris vs. CanadianGuitarist. There's some potentially gold hippie jokes to be had here. Let's see what you've got.

While I'll admit I got tired of that song long ago, I'd also remind you that song was written 15 years ago...back when Color Me Badd, Gerardo, C+C Music Factory, and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch were popular. Smells Like Teen Spirit > Every popular song from the year 1991. We have a post of the month contender.

With what? I don't see how PETA would have anything at all to do with this. They'll find a way. RIP Mr. Irwin.

Aki Berg is going back to Finland this year. And what does 'collect his excess' mean? I'll assume he meant got a good pick in Raycroft, but got his shitty sidekick as well....I think. McCabe will do alright. He will not, repeat WILL NOT, repeat his success from last year.

Scuba, I'll buy you playoff tickets if Montreal wins the North East. Since when does adding Chara not make a team better? NORTHWEST 1) Calgary - Iginla's going to storm back to the Hart now that he has Tanguay on his side. #2 in the playoffs. 2) Colorado - Took some hits, but if Theodore can come back to form, there's still more than enough talent for Colorado to get in. This will likely be their last season in for a while, as they're going to have to start rebuilding, likely within two or three years. Playoff spot #6 3) Edmonton - I've said this a lot this summer, but essentially the same team that missed out by one game in 2003-2004. But with an established goalie, bonafide centre and true leader, they won't be a train wreck. They'll sneak in at #8. 4) Minnesota - Getting much better, and will contend until the end. Not quite there yet, however. 5) Vancouver - Burke should be running the NHL or Union when he's done with Anaheim. We're finally seeing how good his skills are. Even with Luongo in net, defence took a hit, no Bertuzzi puts a hole in what was consistently the best line in hockey, and the loss of Carter off a career year. Book your April tee times, boys. PACIFIC 1) San Jose - Underrated Mark Bell really helps, and a full season for Thornton to play with Cheechoo spells trouble. Thornton will just miss out on the Hart and Ross, but he'll have his revenge on Iggy by taking #1 in the playoffs. 2) Anaheim - See Vancouver. This team is just getting better and better, including probably the best young nucleus of stars in the league with Beauchemin, Perry and Getzlaf. They'll miss Lupul, but there's no reason to think they'll do any worse than #4. 3) Dallas - Lindros certainly doesn't hurt, and still a solid team all around, including the vastly overlooked Marty Turco in net. Playoff spot #7 4) L.A. - Getting better with Blake, and Patrick O'Sullivan has more talent than you can shake a stick at. But I still don't have enough faith in Cloutier 5) Phoenix - Also getting better, including a fine post-Olympic break last year. Joseph looked sharp, Roenick will add some leadership (and colour). Not quite there yet, however, and while it didn't appear to be an issue last year, I'm not so sure Gretzky will still be 100% there with his off-ice struggles. Shouldn't be a problem, but you never know. And that's the biggest question surrounding the Coyotes at this point. What's my pre-mature penance for doubting Gretz? God, the guilt I feel. CENTRAL 1) Nashville - I'm starting to get worried about the Preds, who have a perfect roster for the post-lockout era. Lots of speed, lots of talent, but not a complete abandonment of grit and toughness, which can often go for granted. Vokoun's health is an issue opening night, but Dumont gets Nashville over the hump and into #3. 2) Detroit - Despite two big losses, Hasek was still on track to the Vezina before Turin last year, and he's going to be a lot more comfortable with guys he won the Cup with four years ago. #6. 3) Columbus. I'd been calling for them to be my darkhorse most of the summer, but the West is a bit too strong. Still, a full season of Fedorov is going to do wonders, Nash is a Ross/Richard threat and if Leclaire is for real, the Jackets might be a legit Cup contender two years from now. 4) Chicago - They have three bonafide #1 starters in net, but no one really seems to want the job. They've got Havlat.....and that's about it. But they won't be as bad as 5) St. Louis - Good front line. But the rotating goalie carnival hasn't stopped, and Jackman has been awfully quiet, despite the fact he hasn't needed a new can of polish for his Calder. Basement dwellers in the league this year. SOUTHEAST 1) Carolina - I stil am not 100% sold on Ward, but he certainly didn't look rattled in the AHL two seasons ago. Oh, yeah, wasn't he the guy who stepped in when the Canes were two games down in the first round? I'm 98% sold on him. The same nucleus, more or less, from last June. Ottawa was the other threat, but more on them in a minute. Nothing's stopping the Canes in the regular season this year. #1 2) Tampa - I like Denis, and this isn't a drastically different team from the ones who won the Cup two years ago. But too many other teams have gotten better. They'll finish a close ninth. 3) Atlanta - Max, fire away at me. The loss of Savard hurts big. If for nothing else than character and leadership, the loss of Bondra hurts as much. This team is going to be deflated from Waddell's March boast, and Lehntonen isn't quite there yet. 4) Florida - Even without the Keenan saga that started yesterday, the best they could have hoped for was maybe third in the Atlantic. Lots of talent up front, but if you're trading away the guy who made a record number of saves, God help you, regardless of why. 5) Washington - Ovechkin will contend for Richard, Ross and Hart. Won't win any, however. How appropriate, considering what team he's on. Last in the East. ATLANTIC 1) Philly - The biggest problem they face is still in a luxury suite palling around with Eagleson. If Forsberg can stay healthy, and Nittymaki is what he's being billed to be, there's really no reason to think the Flyers will self destruct. Here's one to discuss: Which PHilly team will bring home a big 4 championship for the long starved City of Brotherly Love? #3 in the east. 2) New York - I'm also not quite sold on Lundqvist. Jagr is still a bit hit or miss due to his seeming indifference at times. But Prucha looked good last year and aplayer like Shanny will trump the last 25 games on the Rangers calender last year. #7 3) New Jersey - Lots of holes still, especially on defence. But there's still guys who can score when asked up front, and Brodeur now understands the new rules. They'll get in. #8. 4) Pittsburgh - Malkin wil get them out of the last. And little else. Crosby goes #3 in the Ross, by the way. 5) Long Island - Train wreck. That's all. NORTH EAST 1) Buffalo - I work in Wal*Mart in a border town to Buffalo. The mobs of summering Buffalonians here, telling me all about Jeanarret and how great Buffalo was and how the Sabres were the best in the East nearly made me quit last spring. Now I've got the unemployment centre on speed dial. Briere is going to challenge for every offensive award and Spacek is going to help give a little confidence to Miller, who, unlike Lundqvist and Ward, I've very sold. #2 2) Ottawa - I just don't know about Gerber. Emery was more than good enough....and with The Undertaker gone on defence, that's a pretty big hole to fill. No worse than #4, though. 3) Montreal - If Huet is for real, there's enough solid talent (despite no real superstars) for the Habs to not worry about the playoffs. Johnson gives them some long overdue grit,(although Dowd, Dykhuis and Odjick were supposed to as well). Still, #5 shouldn't be a problem. 4) Boston - Continue firing Max. I'll have my laugh when Savard is helping this team back into the playoffs. Chara should bail out Toivonen until he's confident enough...which may not even be a problem. #6. 5) T'Ranna - Grossly overpaid for Kubina and Gill. Raycroft should help, but Peca and Tucker's history isn't going to soothe the World Class City of Toronto. I'm surprised we didn't have an OaO NHL Prediction Thread.

I'll second that, as much as I loved it in Grade Six. Why hasn't anyone said Eiffel 65's Blue?

*Steps on the chirping crickets* Yep, indeed he's with Nashville. 4.5 over two years. I'm going to stick with my prediction last year: This is enough to get Nashville over the hump and into first...although Detroit losing its most important player ever is going to play a big role in that.

The official announcement has yet to come, but it appears JP Dumont has signed with Nashville, two years 5 mil.

Chris Masters came back, and Armando got a longer than usual promo. Anyone who comes here regularly knows what a mark I am for these two...and this Raw as boring as fuck. I have no interest in Unforgiven, which is an hour away from my house. Other thoughts: - What the hell is up with JR? Granted, it's been beaten to death in this thread, but it's getting so out of hand, I can take another swing at the horse. - Four women is not too many. Four women in two segments is. - Melina/Nitro was contrived, let alone being far too long. - Little Bastard on Raw? What's not to like about that? - McMahon sounded like Jim Lahey when he was talking about the Unforgiven match. I was waiting for him to call DX a shit stable.

A Rodney Dangerfield Movie

When did Jonathan Landis die? I posted this on the General Wrestling Youtube thread...The character Rodney played on that Simpsons looked like Bobby Heenan. -
