Tagliabue to step down as NFL Commish

While that's certainly true, the NBA enjoyed a pretty big boom last summer in Canada, at least, when Nash took the MVP. I'm still willing to bet the majority of Canadians would be able to pick a Manning or a T.O or an Alexander out of a line-up over Nash or KG. I know this may sound silly, but the 1998 WWF may have been spot on for marketing. There was, of course, "Hey, watch our product, it's awesome", but even apart from Austin and the Rock, everyone got a little credit as far as marketing goes, and the appearance of mainstream celebrities certainly helped.

No. I said this dozens of times during the NHL lockout, the NBA's greatest asset, or one of them, is their ability to market their stars. Everyone and their dog has seen someone in a Lebron James or Garnett jersey. Quick, people who don't follow hockey, name me some of the better teams and players.

    Coolest person ever?

Actually son, Bangladesh is a Muslim-Majority country, as it was part of the states which broke from India to form Pakistan in 1947, and remained as East Pakistan until the war of Independence. Everything else you say is true though. I did kick extreme poverty into Pakistan. Allah lives in fear of Chuck Norris. *Can't believe it took this long for a Chuck Norris gimmick poster.

Dammit, YouthNAsia, I was all set to say mention Walken. Chazz Palminteri gets my vote. Neil Young is a close second.

    Arby's

As a guy my mom knows once said, "Fuck Arby's around here!" I was telling him how I had just had the 3 for $555 deal at Arby's, and he referred to the aforementioned 5 for 5 deals in the Arbys' across the border. I also remember a commercial from 1993 where a woman swore that the 2 for 4 dollar sub she was eating was worth 6.95. Even as a nine year old, I knew 695 for an Arby's sub would have meant a losing bid on the Price is Right. I've heard about this Hogan/Arby's commercial, but the guy who told me was drunk when he told me, and is a Hogan mark. How right was he? If so, I've gotta see this.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

*Begs to differ on Collective Soul. On Halloween night, while I was working at Walmart(in full Paul Birchill garb, mind you), the most burnt out 40 year old woman in the history of man bought a 20 dollar walkman, then proceeded to tell me how much she loved that new 'shine' song by Collective Soul. I offered to her that it was actually released in 1994. She said she still wanted it, and sure enough, left my department 30 bucks poorer, but with a Durabrand CD player and Hints Allegations and Things left unsaid. *Reneges his differing* Early February saw the arrival of a CS/Orchestra compliation. We can't give the fucking things away. The Seven Year Itch could be decent, though, as the only studio CD worth picking up is the self-titled, despite a handful of good singles. Thanks for the Unwritten Law help, by the way.

Such deep analysis. I'm sure glad I can read your posts, stupid cocksucker. Sorry. I didn't pull your name out of a hat, but I'm sorry. If this is what's gonna happen every time one of us posts in this thread, forgiveness.

This is by no means an excuse or loophole for Owen, but NBC ran a piece around his 14th or 15th...I guess he had back surgery less than two years ago? That was news to me, and the 17th green not withstanding, impressive. Pampling wound up winning what was a pretty entertaining back nine. Ernie Els is the only other non American to have won Arnie's tourney.

Most forgettable stint in a promotion

I don't recall Jake in ECW whatsoever, nor do I Virgil. Come to think of it, I'd forgotten about Billy Corgan, and just marked upon reading it again, as I despise him. The Executioner might win the thread.

What was the biggest crowd pop EVER?

I think the Austin one was so loud for two reasons: 1: When his music hit, the crowd, in the span of about half a second, realized: --Austin was coming out. ----He was going to interfere and attack The Rock. ------Foley was going to win the belt. 2: I remember Austin had some sort of injury, and hadn't been on TV for a week or so. The reports on the net said he wasn't going to be at that taping. I'm sure some of the crowd knew that, and were overjoyed when he appeared. I wasn't part of the IWC at the time. I had no idea Austin was coming back. Your half-second theory was awesome and exact.

What was the biggest crowd pop EVER?

A lot of good ones I wouldn't have thought of, the Sandman's return in particular. I'd forgotten how awesome that was. And yes, it is absolutely surreal live. Someone touched on how big the crowd interatcion was in ECW, and thats absolutely right. Three of my buddies and I saw a show in September 2000. Five and a half years ago, for christ sakes, and we still mark over RVD pointing at us.

Habs lose. Convincingly. Devils win. Thrashers win. To a lesser extent, Bruins win. For the first time in seven weeks, I'm a little worried.

Couple thoughts: -I know this sounds surprising, but the team I'd fear most in the first round right now is Nashville. A young team, but a lot of big game experience in the playoffs, World Cup and Olympics. -For all the talk of the Leafs needing to make the playoffs to keep the Canadian Six dream alive, Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton aren't all that safe either. -The four teams I just mentioned, fun fact, were the four Canadian teams in Blades of Steel. -It just read on the Scoreticker that the Blues, yes, the Blues, have killed 21 straight penalties. Even with the Blues stat in mind, most of tonight's 10 games should be fairly cut and dry for picking a winner, save Dallas-LA and the battle of Alberta.

My first instinct was also Austins return in the Rock/Mankind title match....Can Hogan's Molson Centre appearance the night after 18 count? That was I think a different element. An underrated one would be Bulldog's SS92 IC title win. As for heels, I'll second both Michaels in Montreal this summer, and the formation of the NWO.

I've added what, 30 maybe 50 yards to my drives since then? Trouble's brewing. Come to think of it, I've bought the jacket for tourney use every year anyway, I can't see the harm in getting a second for 'just-in case' purposes. Can anyone else believe Michelle Wie is the second ranked player in the women's world?

Also probably because it's Arnold's tournament. I've also known about Geoff Ogilvy for several years, thanks to watching the Australasian tour on the Golf Channel on a semi-regular basis. I should quit drinking; How did I overlook that? Especially with Monday's news that next year it'll be known as the Arnold Palmer Invitational. That grossly undersized green jacket is mine this year, RB. Manley seems to think the fact his golf balls have a Habs logo make him a contender.

CG, I have to agree with max on this ... yeah, Boynton's penalties hurt them last night, but our pal Hal spends more time in the box (at more crucial, costly times) than Boynton does. Boynton's passion & energy helps the B's a lot more frequently than it hurts them. And at least he gives a shit. Boynton should be the next captain of the B's. Period. Bergeron is too young, Gill is too inept, and other than those two, there's no one that makes sense to wear the C next year. (I'd have said Axelsson, but I don't think he'll be wearing the spoked B at all ... and I also think that it's unlikely that Sinden would allow a European to be the captain). In retrospect, maybe I did overstep the line, and some of your points were valid, but tell me you didn't curse like a sailor when the Leafs scored two pp goals within 40 seconds last night? Furthermore, I think it's absolutely ridiculous for you to tell me to pull my head from my ass with the frequency of posts Czech and Leena contribute to this thread.

ALSO! You were right, Sabbatini is not an asshole. Ben Crane is fucking slow, and like Sabbatini, he has a negative stigma to him as well, unfairly.

Bay Hill's always had a different feel to it, just a more serious, probably due to the laid back nature of the two openers in Hawaii, the fun of the Bob Hope and AT and T, the drunken frat boy nature in Phoenix, and the "Your Name Here" at Doral. There's always been a great feel to it, and coupled with the five man playoff last year in Atlanta, this should be a great five weeks of golf.

But Simpsons already did that. Dude, the Simpsons have done everything already. Who cares? There was an episode where an evil genius kept having plans foiled because The Simpsons had done it already.

Edited for post Tuesday accuracy. The Leafs looked absolutely lost for the first 30 minutes of this game, but hung in there. Then the flood gates opened with Boynton's 14 minutes worth of penalties. Office Glen (can't think of your real name, but you're from Brockville), it's certainly not far fetched to see the Leafs around. I just can't accept that Don Waddell, hot or not, is a better GM than Gainey. Tampa will not make the playoffs, I'm sorry. And while the idea of New Jersey not making the playoffs may seem surprising, they certainly didnt look like a playoff team tonight, and only have a five point buffer zone on ninth place Atlanta.

    New school era

I'm inclined to agree that New School began with the term "New Generation". There's a different feel as far as eras go, without question, between that and the Attitude Era.
