What was the best team ever?

It's still kind of weird to see Slayer posts that are.....actual.

    Living Abroad.

The Rocket and I had a teacher in college who was notoriously tough. He was also a Jehovah's Witness. Our bribe of "No Christmas Presents" failed.

What was the best team ever?

Alright, hell with the tourney, but this is way too convoluted for CTDWAT. During my lifetime, the 95-96 Bulls are the best I've ever seen. No talent ever complemented each other the way Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Longley, Kucoc did. 72 wins came in an era that involved an incredible crossroad of talent: The league had, or still had Shaq & Penny Hardaway, Malone & Stockton, Hakeem Olajuwon, Reggie Miller - maybe at no point in any sport's history did so much talent on paper converge in one season. My modest basketball knowledge may prove me wrong, but I declare the 95-96 Bulls to be king of the mountain.

What was the best team ever?

I'd forgot all about Lucky Luc on the '02 Wings - I remembered Hasek and Hull from that year.

What was the best team ever?

A team that got blown out once in a 6 game tournament and was average at best until the final two games has no business in a "greatest team ever" conversation. Baby, we got a stew goin! History forgets games 1 and 2, but remembers possibly the greatest collection of talent in hockey history... In hindsight, a more apropos pick would have been the '04 World Cup team.

What was the best team ever?

If voting dwindles early or we don't get enough teams or interest, shut 'er down. I think this'll work; What else has caused such uproar in a CWDWAT in any folder before?

What was the best team ever?

I'll just pick hockey teams, since I'm sure there's plenty of good teams that will be mentioned in sports I'm not an expert on. * 78 Habs * 85 Oilers * 02 Team Canada

What was the best team ever?

It's called for. PotY should be in March anyway.

What was the best team ever?

I'll run it. Submit your picks, baby. 64-team tournament. Any team, any sport - name two or three picks, tell us why.

What was the best team ever?

Oh. Well.. those 2001 Hurricanes were pretty damn amazing. Most talented and dominant college football team ever vs. most talented and dominant NBA team ever. So, close matchup. Comes down to voters mindset really. The '96 Bulls could beat a college team at football if they wanted to. You can't tell me a minor league team is superior to a major league team, unless you're a total dipshit. That's not really, or shouldn't be, the context of the tournament though. It's all relative. Edit: I smell another "Mundane sports achievements" agrument brewing.

What was the best team ever?

They'd be in my top 5 for hockey. I still see (in no order) the '04 Canadian World Cup Team, late 70's Habs, mid 80's oilers, and early 80's Isles in there. The '76 Canada Cup team has to be close, too.

    Boardloaf

This is half true. It's been a few years since I've had it, but my stepdad used to know a hunter who'd essentially make it himself. I don't know how it got from starting point to my plate, and based on what you described, I don't think I want to, but dayyyyyum. Good stuff. Maybe I'll put the brakes on it from now on, if I was the lucky number of a 20:1 shot.

TV Characters that went from kind of dumb

absolutely. he's half the reason i watch that show. He probably is the funniest character, yeah. But I don't find him as dumb now as he was during the first few seasons; he's more of a jerk than dumb now.

What was the best team ever?

Eruzione and Craig were the two players, along with Herb Brooks.

That's fucked up! I just clicked the link now. I wasn't trying to rain on your parade, but they sounded like YouTube comments. My bad for not clicking the link prior, I guess.

Sports video, audio, and pictures I like

Treble's post with the fans reminded me of something similar I saw on Best Damn a few weeks ago: I believe it was from this past season, I wanna say at Fenway. A fan kind of interferes with a foul ball as a left fielder tracked it down. The fielder wound up reaching for it in vain, but knocking the fan's beer all over him in the process. So as this guy's left with spilled beer all over him, another fan, pissed by the potential lost out, throws a slice of pizza at his head. They replayed it about five times, naming him the "Fox Fan of the Game". The graphic displayed as he was clearly swearing at the guy who threw the pizza.

What was the best team ever?

Fuck if I know. I was just throwing out an example. I definitely don't think they were the best team, but since they were the only team to have a movie made of them, that makes them pretty fucking memorable. That said, I'd say the Oilers with Gretzky, Messier, etc probably takes it. There have been a number of box sets, historical looks, and made-for-TV movies about the 1972 Summit Series and the Canadian squad. That obviously doesn't compare to a Hollywood movie, but I can name exactly three members of the US team. Off the top of my head, I could name a half-dozen of any great hockey team. You mentioned hockey not being mainstream enough, but it's a Canadian-run tournament: Hockey is as mainstream as it gets. I'm not disputing what a moment the Miracle on Ice was, nor the significance of it, but it's oft-forgotten that it was not for the gold medal - if such a crucial fact is forgotten, that has to be a bit of a blow to the title of "most memorable team". Finally, and this may be semantics more than anything else: Can a team that pulled such a huge upset be considered as the best ever, or even among them?

    List Things That Bother You

I agree with this. One of the things that bothers me is the way that clothes that are made out of wool feel. In a similar vein, I remember trying to refuse a plastic spoon in favour of a real one in the lunch my mother was making for me in Grade 7. My reasoning was that I couldn't stand the "nail on a chalkboard" feel that resulted from a plastic spoon in a Snak Pak.

What was the best team ever?

I'm a little surprised that the title didn't go to a hockey team (take your pick of a few), given that it was primarily Canadians voting.

    The bodyguard angle

Virgil's turn was one of the biggest pops I've ever heard. I'm also a big fan of the bodyguard angles, and in the same vein, I thought the ApA was a fantastic idea.

TV Characters that went from kind of dumb

I'm finding the opposite to happen with Jake from Two-And-A-Half Men
  24. There was a compilation of famous Steiner lines and grunts from, I believe, one of the "You can't say that on TV" threads. Your quote was by far the most memorable. "Gonna suck my dick or what?" "NO!" "What the hell ya here for then?"

    The Simpsons Character Draft

You can still run it, if you want. I'm on nights the next three weeks, so my ability to run a draft could be up in the air.
