Seconded. Michaels/Owen made sense at WM. They could have easily done Austin/Tyson, maybe even Austin/HHH with Tyson as ref. AUstin could have won the title at Unforgiven. Who didn't want to see Owen with the strap in the early days of 1998?

Michaels and HHH had a phenomenal match on Raw in May 1996.

Worst wrestling related conversationd you've heard
CanadianGuitarist replied to Epic Reine's topic in General Wrestling
The goldust thing reminds me of an incident where I was designated driver a few weeks ago. In McDonald's with three drunk guys, one proceeds to blow pepper at me and say "GOOOOOOOOLDUSSSSSSST!" Another of the 3 was inspired to open a salt packet and throw it in my face, calling himself Mr Fuji. -
Think about this: Replacement players. I say 75% of the current PA come back, though we'll be sadly surprised by a few who don't. Is is treally that tough to adapt to as a fan to have replacements. Even if let's say one of every five comes back, how long does it take for the landscape of the NHL to change as is with retirements, free agents, and what have you. Three years? I hold in my hand my 1999-2000 season Hockey News Yearbook. 6 of the 38 players listed are still with the Habs. 4 of those 6 were playing in the AHL when the book was published. I don't even want to think about who's passed through Edmonton in that time frame.

I'll figure em out one day. I'll also save money, quit drinking and get in shape one day.

I'll admit I didn't know. But no one could know when you include the word 'whatever' in your description.

QUOTE (LooneyTune @ Mar 15 2005, 10:39 PM) QUOTE (CanadianGuitarist @ Mar 15 2005, 10:20 PM) QUOTE One of those cases where you think of something good to say, but don't have the balls to actually say it to the person. Oh yeah? Well, the jerk store called, they're running out of you!. I accidentally set myself up in a Seinfeld trap. Yeah, well I slept with your wife! (Damn, I really tried to resist posting that, but I couldn't) I read his 1988 Book One Size Doesn't Fit All and all reviewers said he wrote a book the same way he'd talk to you over a beer....hope that kinda helps.

Matches that made wrestlers stars
CanadianGuitarist replied to slabinskia's topic in General Wrestling
Steve Corino over Dusty Rhodes in April 2000. "Nuff Said. I entertained the thought of Piper/Goldust, but to make a career of it, you should win. The exceptiuon to the rule is Austin/Hart. Not to say Austin wasn't made, but this clearly pushed him to the top. Prove me wrong. -

the WWF Superstar Line (The number to which escapes me now)?

Though they're no longer together, my brother said, and I quote: "Madden and Summerall. No one else. Not even close."

It's an avatar that says "Will You Stop?!!?!?!". Could you post here, please?

Assuming each era is: Early days(1917-1930) The 30's The 40's The Early 50's(50-55) Hab Dynasty of the 50's(55-60) Leaf Dynasty(62-67) Expansion(67-73) Flyers/Habs Era (74-79) Islanders Era (80-83) Oilers Era(84-90) Pre-Strike(91-95) Post-Strike(95-present) For any reasons, whether your team was dominant, players you liked, good moments, whichever. I say Pre-Strike. Habs win the Cup for the only time I was old enough to see, hockey had just enough teams at 24(though I prefer 21, but Ottawa is big). 92-93 was a great year all around, tradition was rampant with the 100th anniversary, and I defy you to find better hockey than the 93-94 Cup finals.

Make your own wrestlemania card
CanadianGuitarist replied to slabinskia's topic in General Wrestling
Wrestlemania: Lelani Kai vs Wendi Richter...Gotta have a women's title match, and I like opening the show with a secondary title match. Wrestlemania 2: Tito and The Junkyard Dog vs. The Funks....What's not to like about all four of these guys. Wrestlemania 3: Hogan vs Andre...Come on. It was the most anticipated match ever. Still the top draw of all time if I'm not mistaken. I've never liked Hulk but did mark out when he slammed Andre. Feel a little guilty not having Savage/Steamboat, however. Wrestlemania 4: Steamboat vs Valentine. Gotta like the Dragon, and I know a guy named Greg Valentinn, but he doesn't like being called Hammer. As such, I'm a Hammer mark. Wrestlemania 5: Mr. Perfect vs Blue Blazer. Feel terrible about not having either of these two on the card, though I wanted Bret/Owen from X(my favourite match EVER. Wrestlemania 6: Dibiase vs. Jake the Snake. I prefer The Snake as a heel, but gotta have both these guys on the show. My favourite heels ever, no question. Wrestlemania 7: Savage/Warrior. Awesome match, even if I never liked either of em. Wrestlemania 8: Beverly Brothers vs Bushwhackers. Loved em both when I was a kid...not really sure why. I also know a woman named Beverly, who is now tired of my asking if her last name is Brothers. Wrestlemania 9: Stieners vs Headshrinkers...Filler. Wrestlemania 10: HBK vs Razor Ramon. Hate em both, but the match revolutionized wrestling. Wrestlemania 11: Bam Bam vs. LT...Process of elimination leaves these two to represent the show. Not a bad match, and I do mark for the Beast from the East. Wrestlemania 12: Piper vs. Goldust. Hated it, but it's not WM without the Hot Rod. Wrestlemania 13: Bret vs. Austin, submission. Love em both, face or heel. DOuble switch got Austin's career going, great match all around. Wrestlemania 14: Aguila vs. Taka. Wanted to have Austin/Michaels, but they both do better already mentioned. Also wanted Rock/ Shamrock, an underated match, and I loved the Rock as a NOD heel. Aguila vs Taka was a quality match. Wrestlemania 15: Boss Man vs Taker. Never liked the Taker, but it is Wrestlemania. Loved the Boss Man, always did. He died the day I bought a new car for fuck's sakes, and I stil think sadly of that day. Instantly depressed, despite getting a phone call not 5 seconds after purchasing my car. Wrestlemania 16: TLC. No question, awesome match. I still refuse to say Wrestlemania 2000. Wrestlemania 17: Benoit vs Angle. Great match, great workers. Wrestlemania 18: RVD vs William Regal. Always liked both these guys. I'm still mad over Hogan/Rock's finish. Wrestlemania 19: Booker T vs HHH. Pretty good match, I found. Wrestlemania 20: Rock and Sock vs Evolution. Feel incredibly bad about the 3 way dance, but it wasnt a total loss as all 3 were represented. Good match here, loved where Flair strutted through the People's Elbow. They all had better WM matches, save Batista, but I'm happy with this. You weren't kidding, that was hard. -
I remember Shamrock being one of the only guys that wrestled that didn't have an armband on. I always wondered about that.

Obviously just the name won't make an arena, there's gotta be history behind it, but there's some badly named arenas that I just can't imagine honour and prestige playing in. I'd love to play in MSG, Fenway Park or the Montreal Forum. Even Bell Centre, Air Canada Centre and GM Place aren't too bad. It's gone now, but I liked Skyreach Centre. I also like the name Great American BallPark. I saw Barry Bonds hit a homerun once there. Also got head that night in an unrelated incident. For the bad, I nominate Tropicana Field, Minute Maid Park, Gaylord Entertainment Center, St. Times Pete Forum, National Car Rental Center, and SaveMoreFoods Arena. Anyone else?

1) Ric Flair Heel, indeed the measuring stick as a heel. 2) Shawn Michaels Face, despite the fact I hate him. I never saw him as a legit heel. 3) Bob Backlund Heel. Next. 4) Roddy Piper Heel. 5) Jake Roberts Heel. Anyone with a good vocabulary and promos that make you think should be a heel. Two exceptions to the rule: Foley and Hart 6) Mick Foley Face. Gotta root for the underdog, and during his championshp days, I think a lof of fans saw him as an everyman. 7) Bret Hart I liked what he had to say during his later days in the WWF as a heel, but I'll always be a Hitman mark. Face. 8) Lex Luger Heel. Could never get behind him as a face. 9) The Rock Heel. Far more entertaining and likable when he's not spitting out one liners. 10) Undertaker Face. Don't like him, but he could get a crowd to cheer him, I feel, a lot more effectively. 11) Randy Savage Heel. 12) Big Show/Giant Heel.

Yep. Thats why Tampa Bay was getting 18,5 a game in January and February. Scott Taylor, despite having an incredibly irritating voice, always has something good to say during his weekly Soapbox on the Score Network. He attested that it was often Masquerade night in Tampa, and most fans went dressed as blue seats. Taylor is, IMO, hockey's second best write after Brophy.

"This will take place at Springfield's Yahoo Search Engine Arena!" I don't mind and have somewhat accepted that corporations now own every stadium pretty much. The problem is when they're too wordy or badly whored. Rogers Centre is at least named for a guy somewhat.

Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth Cuthbert and Millen Can I say the CBS golf team, save Gary Mccord? There's, um....let's see Nantz, Oosterhuis, Wadkins, Mccord, Feherty.....5, subsitute Mccord with Verne Lundquist at the Masters...... yeah 5....sorry, little not so mental math... I like the Fox football line actually....though Bradshaws an idiot, and id like them to find a full time fourth for more than a season, I always liked Collinsworth.

Hospital tells woman "Your husband has died."
CanadianGuitarist replied to a topic in Current Events
A fine reference, Cerebus. This actually happened at work with me a few weeks ago. A gentleman came to my department( I work at walmart electronics) and I served him, and he was on his way. About 20 yards away, he found an old friend, so they stood and talked and caught up on old times, for about, oh, 15-20 minutes. The gentleman who I served came back to me 10 minutes after he and his buddy parted ways, and the following conversation took place: Old guy:(looks flustered) Me: You alright, sir? OG: You remember me from a half hour ago, right? Me: Yep. You'd been talking to what looked liked a guy you hadn't seen in a while. OG: Thats right. Have you seen him? Me: Not since you two left, no OG: Oh. Convey a message for me if you see him? me: Sure. OG: I told him someone had died. that's not true, it was someone else.... The spot I was put in was both awkward and funny. The old guy's buddy never came to see me though. -
Be they funny, appropriate at a major moment in sports history, or even bad or depressing? The two in my signature do obviously, but there's four that really stick out to me: 1986: Jack Nickalus strokes a putt to take the lead on the 17th at Augusta on Sunday...."Maybe? YES SIR!!!!" 2002: "SAKIC? SCOOOOOOOOORES! THAT'S GOTTA BE IT!" Bob Cole when Joe Sakic made it 5-2 Canada in the Men's Olympic finals. 2003: Mike Weir from 94 yards at the par 5 fifteenth at Augusta on Sunday...David Feherty "Find a spot, take one bounce, skid to a halt...That looks like it could be the right spot, OH CANADA!" The sheer hilarity of Feherty in general, coupled with the apt timing and the pride I was feeling as a Canadian and left hander really makes that one stick. If anyone's seen the official Augusta highlight film from 2003, they really play up that Mattiace had finished at seven, not eight under, unbeknownst to Weir, who has the five foot birdie putt to tie. DF: This to take the lead. Jim Nantz: Weir doesn't know that. DF: YES! 3 to Play and we have a tie. JN: The birdie ties him with Mattiace, but he doesnt know that. A second roar, however, occurs when Mattiace's score is posted. It tells Weir that this tournament is entirely within his grasp. I swear, even writing this, I'm getting goosebumps. 2004: Nantz again, when Mickelson makes the putt that enabled my avatar picture. "Is it his time? YES! AT LONG LAST!" As happy as I was about Mike winning in 2003, I'd been pulling for Mickelson to win a major for a long time. Weir was never the 'best player never to'....Also, I'd had Phil in my pool 3 straight years. My avatar was also my most recently shed one-manly tear. Feel free to share.

What if Austin's career did end at Summerslam 97? The WWF would be dead. No questions about it in my mind.
