    Your wrestler biases

Jericho was def. born in Manhattan. His dad did play for the Rangers, but I believe he lived in Winnipeg(where his dad was from) from the time Chris was about 8 or 9. I recall him reminiscing on Confidential about his days growing up in Winnipeg.

20 wrestlers you would have in your

Allow me to run down a show with my 20 favourites, 10 heel, 10 face. Commentary: Joey Styles and Don Callis 'Team ECW' Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman(2000 ECW) def. Justin Credible(2000 ECW) and Jake The Snake(Early 90's) Vader(1996) def. Chris Benoit(now) Sabu(Mid 90's),Terry Funk and Scorpio(98 WWF...honest) def. Triple Threat Members Shane Douglas, Bam Bam Bigelow and Lance Storm. Rob Van Dam(98 ECW) def. Raven(95 ECW) for the CCW Interprovincial Title. New Hart Foundation members Bret and Owen Hart(1997) def. The British Bulldogs(Late 80's) to retain the CCW Tag Titles. Cactus Jack(Early 90's indy) def. Rhino(check the spelling) to retain the CCW Title. As you can kinda tell, I love monster heels and technical wrestlers. I strongly prefer wrestling to showmanship(thus, no Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Rock or Austin....Austin barely missed the cut, though, I always did like him for some reason). Smart booking and psychology can do much more than angles and flash and glitz and glamour, take WM20's Main Event for example. Sloppy Match, but I still get goosebumps watching it. World Title should always be pushed, put it in the main event without fail.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

I don't recall any drowning. What I do recall is this: Before the main event of Good Friends, Better Enemies, Bulldog stormed the ring yelling at Michaels. The following night it was revealed that Michaels allegedly made a pass at Diana Smith(according to story). This led to a pretty good match at Beware of Dog in May, and a great finish involving a double pin. Incredibly, the harrassment of Diana was never again mentioned after that match. Bulldog being a member of Camp Cornette made it easy to transition the feud to Vader.

Canadian PM Paul Martin visits Libya

Well, the thing was, I would have voted for the NDP, but I knew they weren't realistically going to get many seats or win. So, since I would never vote for a Conservative, I picked Liberal, to assure the conservatives would not win.

    Most Shameless Shilling in Wrestling

"I'm gonna break his neck, I'm gonna rip off his head, I'm gonna drink his blood. And to wash down that blood, I'm gonna drink an ice cold Buzz beer!' J/K, anyone remember that from an episode of Drew Carey with Triple H? I'd say the Karate Fighters. Pathetic.

    ESPN's Top 10 games of 2004

Golfers are definitely in better shape now than before. Look at Tiger when he won the Masters in 97, and look how much more muscular he is today. Find a close up shot, his loose shirts don't really highlight how muscular he really is. Check out Mickelson in 2002 and his enormous man boobs. He at least looks fit now. Well, Stadler's still fat, but he's on the Champions now, so he can at least have an excuse. Yes, The Masters is among the best sports moments of the year, top 10. You kind of have to be a golf fan to appreciate how big this was. Mickelson's performance made it easy to overlook the end of Arnie's era. The Benoit analogy is extremely accurate. A fine year of golf indeed, lots of comeback players, couple players to watch to return in 2005, great tournaments, Singh taking over, Els's shaft.......Best I've seen in some time.

    ESPN's Top 10 games of 2004

Let's hope they don't ignore hockey, and post any game from the Canucks-Flames Western Conference quarters, Game 6 or 7 in particular. Can I count the final round of the Masters as a game?

Bush Named Time's Person of 2004

Not many people know this, but the choice was originally pro wrestler Mickey Foley. In 1998, with his media publicized Hell In A Cell match in June, and the release of his own handwritten autobiography(at the time, a first among wrestlers) that fall, made for a strong candidate indeed. However, Time being an indirect business rival of the World Wrestling Federation, put a stop to that mighty quick. Beat me to it. For better or for worse(And I won't go on a rant here) Bush is the most INFLUENTIAL of the year. See above. I did a controversial essay in my Grade 12 English, a choice of either: who has been the most influential Canadian, or has the most influence on Canadians. I said OBL, citing the generosity and neighbourly conduct we bewstowed on 9-11. Met with well deserved controversy, but I still defend it.

Canadian PM Paul Martin visits Libya

Paul Martin is hardly a dictator. Especially when you consider that I, well, VOTED for him on June 28 of this year. Well, I voted for the Liberal candidate in my riding, Erie-Lincoln, which I'm sure all my fellow Canadians understand, but this is no time for semantics.

    NHL Rejects Union Proposal

One smiley it is, I'll have to alternate. The second Roughrider team was from Ottawa, they folded and came back as the Renegades. Also, one was actually the Roughriders, the Saskatchewan was the Rough Riders. This made it remarkably easy to welsh on bets. The only saving grace was that the media would refer to the Roughriders as the Riders, and the Rough Riders as the Roughies. Confused yet?

    NHL Rejects Union Proposal

I disagree, Czech. Red Baron is a rabid hockey fan, and is fully cognisant of the North Stars of 67-93. I do know more than he does, but that's irrelevant. The Stars only left because of the childish squabbling between then owners George and Geoff Gund, who got in a fight and split the team up, as I understand. Bettman does deserve at least a little credit for, in all his expansion fuck-ups, giving teams to Minneapolis and Columbus. I hate to say it, but a team starting up in Canada in the late 90's wouldn't have worked. The dollar was to low at the time. I remember Hamilton trying to get a team in the early 90's, which would have worked. The dollar was nearly even at the time, and if the owners hadn't snapped like a composite stick in the first lockout, Quebec, Winnipeg, Regina and Halifax could all have teams right now. After the first lockout, despite not much being solved and both sides just desperate, expansion was a good idea. Things were marketed well, hockey was in theory, a well run operation, picking up steam with fans, and as such, a good investment. With the seven digit fee required in expansion, Bettman kind of sold out, but it's his job to make the league money. He just gave them to silly cities.

Convince Me Our President Isn't A Terrorist

Absolutley, Sek. My American girlfriend and I discussed this last week, that speaking out against anything American post 9-11 makes you a traitor and treasonous. Look how hated Michael Moore is by many. Now granted, he's kind of an ass and does use video editing to his advantage and what not, but still. Dj and I agree that it makes you a better American to speak out when applicable against the government, that's what makes democracy. Another hearty pat on the back, Sek. And fine work on the dancing Sektor in your avatar.

Usage of "WWF" on mainstream TV

Amen to the bit about the Fund tantrum. I have to admit I never call it WWE. However, in the media, it should be called WWE. Editors and what have you. As a journalism major, accuracy and, um, up to date-ed-ness is stressed vigourously.

Convince Me Our President Isn't A Terrorist

I had it explained to me, that Kuwait gave Iraq anything they wanted during the Iraq-Iran war of the 80's. Saddam decided that instead of repaying Kuwait, he'd invade. No offence, but the public is stupid in general. Maybe not stupid, but gullible and hysterical. How many bought the WMD lies of Bush? As a Canadian(and as such, a strong supporter of Canadian beef), I saw how the US-Canadian border was closed to beef. Why? Hysteria on the news. We're hysterical and believe what we see. And no, not all of you are, please don't flame, this is my opinion, and I'm entitled to it. I disagree. For the US? Maybe, since it will mean small dicked Americans will maybe one day be able to drive their gas guzzling SUV's and Humvee's for a slightly cheaper price with the oil that Iraq was invaded for. For the world? Probably not. Thousands of killed Iraqis, thousands of homeless Iraqis probably aren't better off now. The little boy who lost his limbs and his family because the US military is 'liberating him' certainly isn't better off. Amen. Now, I'll admit I'm patriotic to the point that it's sometimes ridiculous, and I'm sure I've referred to Canada as the greatest country in the world before. But I have legit grievances with the States, and that's why I air them. I love Canada. I will not bring down the States(or any other country, for that matter) to make myself feel better as a Canadian. Every citizen in the world probably has at least one reason to feel proud of their native land, as such, every person alive has the right to be patriotic. But how do you measure greatness in that sense? So, let's just be proud, but not refer to ourselves as the best/greatest. Why is that a good thing? A culture influx, a lesser developed world outside of the West. Nope, can't imagine why these insurgents are bitter. Dominant military? That's cold and terrible. Have you ever considered that there's bound to be bitterness when a foriegn leader tells you that he doesn't want your leader having weapons,(how appropriate, because there were none) but most Americans are thrilled to pieces over the size of their military and it's weapons? Yes, I agree the world is better of with Saddam ousted. But the means were shameful and unnecessary. Finally, these are my opnions. Don't just call me stupid. If you have a retort, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Matches where even though a guy lost...

I might be missing the point, but Edge beating Ortin for the IC at July's PPV is an example. Although, it's pretty obvious he was getting a world title push and they had to get the IC off him.

    Favourite, Least Favourite Jerseys

What's everyone's favourite and least favourite jerseys in the 4 major pro sports? This is from the beginning of each league to present day: Favs: Football: Edmonton Eskimos. (Very similar to the Green Bay Packers.) Basketball: Celtics. Any era. Baseball: Yankees away grey, 1991 Blue Jays, Any Tigers jersey. Hockey: Any Hab jersey, 96 Canucks away: the circular logo with the orange on the top half of the jersey, then a quarter red and a quarter black. Least Favourites: Football: Baltimore Ravens. Basketball: Miami Heat current, Raptors debut jersey. Baseball: 70's/80's Astros, Yankee pinstripes. (Honest!) Hockey: Colorado Rockies, Debut away Anaheim.

    Report: New Iran Missiles...

Because they can? Padon my potential lack of tact, but the war on terror can't be stopped. Since 9/11, everyone is now afraid of everything, including but not limited to their own shadows. I can't see that changing anytime soon.

    The Sports Confessional

I love curling, pool and poker on television. In real life too, but still... Hockey is my favourite sport. Golf is my second. Both to play and watch. I love the Habs but don't root againt the Leafs. How many Yankees or RedSox fans can say that? Hell, how many Leafs/Habs fans can say that? It took playing a football video game for me to get interested in the NFL, and the game was ESPN 2k5. I hadn't cared a lick about the NFL since Montana retired. I can watch any sport during the playoffs.....but, see above, I outright didn't care about the NFL Playoffs last year, up to and including The Super Bowl...I'm bitter at myself for it too, I understand Mcnab's 4th and 26 is already one of football's all time great moments. I was much more interested in the FBR Phoenix Open last year instead. I don't know what ATH is...anyone fill me in?

    Wrestlemania Opinion

I can't believe I didn't mention WMX. Probably my favourite. I haven't really watched wrestling since ECW went under, so I wasn't all that in to the story aspect of WMXX. Which takes out about 5 matches. I could appreciate the fun factor of the handicap match between Evolution and Rock and Sock. I could appreciate the hype between Lesnar and Goldberg. Even not following the story, I knew how big the 3 way dance for the title was. And yes, I got really into the main event, especially when Benoit locked on the Crossface. But the wrestling was boring in most cases. 1) WM X 2) WM XIV 3) WM III

    Greatest Canadian?

The Final Ten: -Dr. David Suzuki -Tommy Douglas -Lester B -Pierre Elliot -Wayne Gretzky -Don Cherry -Alexander Graham Bell -Terry Fox -Sir John A. -Frederic Banting Voting finishes for good Monday night. This, after a six month, pick anyone you want poll. The top 10 were announced in September, and each nominee had an advocate stating why. In the anything goes vote, I picked Banting, but changed it to Tommy Douglas. I feel badly slighting Lester, Pierre and Terry as well. So, what do you think? Please resist the urge, if any of you feel it, to say something brilliant, like "I vote for myself, because Canada sucks!"

    Greatest Canadian?

It's been decided, much to my delight as a social democrat. My pick, Tommy Douglas! Terry Fox and Pierre Trudeau finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Exactly where I'd rank them.
