Sandberg Blyleven Boggs I'd like to see Lee Smith....if I'm not mistaken, didn't he at one point hold the all time saves lead? I can't decide if Abbott really should be a nominee...I don't mean to sound like a dickhead, but how much of his nomination is because of him having one hand? Granted, a no-hitter is unreal, let alone with one hand, so I can't decide.

Random question - Jason Sensation
CanadianGuitarist replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
He also worked, briefly as a ring announcer for a local(well, local to me, Niagara Region, Ontario) indy fed, NSP. He fucked up the name of the fed when introducing its title, despite just hearing an 'NSP' chant during a high spot in a previous match. Also, he was paid, according to my buddy who co-owned NSP, 20 dollars a show. He was let go when asking for 100. Fun Fact: The same fed also just had Jerry Lawler make two guest appearances. -
Iggy, don't just look at what Grapes has done, look what he embodies and represents: -Good hearted in general -Tough but fair -Hard working -Charitable. -Patriotic The Canadian way. Yes, he's probably more conservative and outspoken than just about every Canadian, but he emodies, for the most part, Canadian ideals and values.

Absolutely. There is such a thing as tact, even if I do agree with most anti-Bush comments. Parrish exercised none, and she should have, being a public figure. Virtue, your assessment seems right. It's been well documented that Martin and Bush get along on a personal level, not the case with Dubya and Chretien.
-
While I absolutely despise Bush, we should welcome him with open arms. The US border needs to be re-opened to softwood lumber and Canadian cattle. The realtionship between Canada and the United States is deeper than most realise. 86% of American trade is with Canada. It's naive to say for a Canadian to say "Fuck The States." It's naive for an American to say 'Fuck Canada'. I don't like the U.S government whatsoever, but I'm not so ignorant to just say the hell with them. Bush was heckled in Australian parliament? Beautiful. I heard he wasn't coming to our parliament now, but I didn't realise he had been heckled in Australia. Although, I suppose it's possible: Ron Reagan was heckled in Canadian parliament in 1987. He was one of the few conservatives I've ever liked, actually.

Though in particular game 6 and 7, any game from the Flames-Canucks west quarters this year. Best actual hockey(and i mean actual hockey, results are irrelevant) since the 87 Canada Cup.

C-Bacon, I wouldn't have considered Cherry, either, and I even scoffed when I saw he was a finalist. But after watching his advocate, Bret Hart, I changed my opinion. Hart pointed out, that probably not the most honourable or admirable of Canadians, Cherry embodies many Canadian values: Hard work, good heartedness, tough, etc. Granted, he's a little more outspoken and conservative than most of the Canadian population, but, nevertheless.

The Canadian Health Care System
CanadianGuitarist replied to The Czech Republic's topic in Current Events
An interesting tidbit, for the poster who got the ball rolling on this topic. As of 1130ish tonight, Tommy Douglas, the generally speaking founder of public healthcare in Canada, is leading the polls for The Greatest Canadian. Another: In a poll conducted in 2000, when my compatriots were asked what they were most proud of as Canadians, 74% said public health care. Yes 74%. Hockey was second with something like 16. No, I don't have a source. Sorry. -
Cerebus, never ending kudos for your(although semi obvious) Seinfeld reference. It kinda seems like fraud but I don't really know enough about the situation to fairly comment. This takes away a bit of my previous affection for run-off elections. Imagine if in 2000, there were four candidates for the US presidency, all with a legitimate shot at winning. (I know there were indies, green party, etc) Florida'd still be counting votes. Nevertheless, I still like the concept of a run-off election.

To the guy who asked about a tag team called Assault and Battery: I can't honestly tell you why I know this, but Assault and Battery were a women's tag team on the ABC sitcom Step By Step. They beat the hell out of straight laced Frank(Patrick Duffy) and his wacky nephew Cody(Sasha Mitchell). 4 time High School Trivia Team MVP. Computer skills? Nope. Car knowledge? Next. Cooking ability? Dick. Romantic prowess? N/A. Useless knowledge factor? Through the fucking roof. As for the team in the WWF, I've got nothing.

If you're referring to his vignettes before his WWF Debut, in March 1996, give or take, they were mostly dark, but with a small light. The only visible part of his body was usually shown in a close or extreme close frame, and I can only recall seeing his fingers(I always loved the black and white taped fingers) and his partial ear. He spoke in a voice that was a little less emotional than hs ECW promos, a little higher pitched than the Foley we're used to right now. In his second or third promo, "Have a nice day" was debuted.

Is there too much censorship in the media?
CanadianGuitarist replied to Highland's topic in Current Events
To think, I had an opinion before my journalism post above. Yes/no, there's too much/not enough censorship. I admit I wouldn't have even thought of the politcal slant and instantly voted no until the second or third poster made that point. So, it somewhat offsets my no case. If I may: No, there's not enough. There's much more to censorship than bleeping out swearing or blurring someone's face. Graphic violence and gory bloody scenes and depictions seem common on newscasts. Often, I find them to be in poor taste or without tact. With that in mind, I'd like to see much less sensationalism*cough, Fox News* and, yes, more censorship. Maybe if censorship were porridge, Goldilocks would choose the current state. -

As a student of journalism, I take great exception to that. With over 300 hours of hands on journalism at school, I can safely say it's not easy work. Polls are good to have, to give some idea of what will happen. Necessary? Nope. But why not? It only helps add to the political slant found in every medium. Exit polls: Also, why not? Seeing as how this election was likely the biggest of our lifetimes(certainly the biggest of our lifetimes to date), how many people were realistically glued to their television sets? 8, 9 figures? Without question. While votes are counted, there's only so much that can be reported. So, why not get a general idea of who did what, or who will do what? It had been widely noted by every major American network(although I didn't watch FOX, which I refuse because of its shameless right slant) that exit polls were not definite. Again, it at least gave us a general idea. Journalism is not easy, and certainly not for the lazy. Empathy, please. And before I get flamed for my Fox comment, yes, I'm privy to a college newspaper. Yes, it's pretty liberal. No, I don't take it as gospel. Bear that in mind if you reply, please. Thanks. -
Re: CTV Sportsnet. Sportscentral was a much better name than Sportsnet News. Why the change? There's still shows called Hockeycentral and Soccercentral. I don't care for Sportsnet. They often seem a bit too silly for me. The only one who keeps a reasonable demeanour is Don Taylor, who does Pacific. And he's been tough to take seriously ever since EA Sports' NHL 2003. While SportsCentre's current broadcasting corps cant compare to yesteryear's, I'd gladly take Onrait/Hedger, Horton, Dutch and Price over anyone from ESPN, save Patric and Mayne. Scuba, I don't mean to start a debate on the wrong board, but Pearson over Trudeau. But that's a different debate for a different day. Fuckin Aaron won 2-0 earlier.

As long as we're on a talk of dead whores, a Family Guy reference if I may: " You might have killed her when you hit her with the chair. Maybe when you stuffed the bills down her throat. I don't know. I'm not a doctor. I'll tell you what didn't kill her. Smoking."

Downhome, who are the two guys dancing in your signature? It looks like Fawlty Towers...which is an absolutely hilarious show.

Biggest announcer overreaction ever
CanadianGuitarist replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
I don't know if this can classify as an announcer reaction, but I recall a PPV ad in 1998/1999 where the WWF referred to their wrestlers as gods among men. -
Bret Hart - Wrestling With Shadows
CanadianGuitarist replied to MikeJordan23's topic in General Wrestling
As much as I love Hart, and as much as the whole Montreal incident was not Bret's fault, Wrestling With Shadows was almost unwatchable because it was so one sided. The interview with him and Paul Jay afterwards was the best stuff. May I highly reccommend the Owen Hart biography, also part of A and E's Bodyslam week. -
Kudos. I'm actually the guy who wanted it, i forgot to log out of RedBaron's, he's a buddy of mine. Thanks, man.

That's such a naive viewpoint that it's laughable. They couldn't give two shits about the Pierre Dagenaises and Brian Pothiers of the world, so long as the Joe Sakics and Jaromir Jagrs can continue to make $7 million-plus. If they were really interested in their entire membership, then the wouldn't be holding out for something that's not coming, and letting their lesser-paid members sit and rot. As for the European league fiasco, the NHL players are stealing jobs from players who really need them. Period. A hundred grand is a pittance to those guys, but it feeds the families of the guys who've gotten kicked out. It stinks, and those players should be ashamed of themselves, because you know they'd be screaming bloody murder if the league brought in replacement players -- which is the exact same thing. Perfect. 20% or less of those players are North American. So how do u know those 80% Euro are not going back to their country for good? Then is it ok? Of course. Don't give me this Bullshit about taking money from their familys. No one complians when Euro's come here and take jobs from American players in the NHL. If they were good enough to play in the nHL, they would. They can't, so they can be replaced if someone better arrives. The NHL is where the best of the best come to compete. If the best players are coming over from Europe, they will play in NA to compete with the best from the world. Bullshit? It's reality. How would you like it if you bust your ass to make a name for yourself in the Czech league, getting scouted for the next year, only to be forced to sit out because of big names like Jagr, Bondra, Satan etc...would not accept a pay cut.

I've heard the term Sunny Days used a lot. Can anyone fill me in, as I'm completely clueless. I recall something about the KLIQ and Sunny having some problems, but that's the only thing I can think of that remotely fits that bill. Thanks.

Sportsinteraction.com is pretty safe. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but anything can happen. That's why sports betting can be tough. Do some homework, got to a site like tsn.ca and read previews and find out how teams stats compare, and past games and what have you.

I disagree. While watching on television, (and at a live event) with my dad, we had some fun, saying things like "Why is the referee allowing this?" Why not have some fun? It seems like common sense that wrestling is planned.

Furthermore, there's plenty of privilged people in Third World countries. It's naive to think every citizen of a country not in the West doesn't eat well every day. It's remarkable how many people are under that impression. I go to school with a young lady from Zambia who said that most of North America was under a vast ignorance about Africa, that Africans have cars and shopping malls(and presumably, the colour TV's you mentioned earlier).
