    Xbox 360

That was pretty well my logic. My intent is to run my 360 into my TV via HDMI, then use the audio out to go into the receiver, ideally, for both TV viewing and the 360. It won't be for a few months still, so I'm kind of weighing out my options at this point.

I cover a lot of ground, don't I? Staircase alligator has been a debate with my father since September 2004. I showed him the thread, and he liked Matt Young's response the best. Matt Young is a thunder-stealing motherfucker.

Surround sound question: I'm looking at a receiver/speaker package. It features two RCA audio ins. One would be for my television, the other for my boombox. If my 360's plugged into my television, will the receiver recognise it, or do I need to run the 360 directly into the receiver? I don't have the adapter that came with the HDMI kit, if that matters (which I hope it does not). No one answered this in the HDTV thread, and incredibly, no one GameFaqs really answered it. Anyone noticing a pattern?

    The Hockey Thread - October

I remember Cechmanek having some hot periods, but never quite caught on. He did win five titles in the Czech Republic. Right or wrong, I don't think this statement will be argued too much: Bob Clarke is probably to blame for any problem the Flyers have had in the last 15 years.

    TSM Rumors

Czech Republic is actually from....Fuck it, it's been done. Matt Young? More like Matt Senior, mirite? It's also been believed that my name is just a gimmick, or at least the noun of it.

She's a store manager at Lids. I applied for the very same job at the soon-to-open St. Catharines location. A TSM connection is a good vibe.

Yeah, I've got to agree with that. The Wings just didn't have it tonight, even though the score was close. They just looked half-hearted or tired. What's the word on Stuart? I'm ashamed to ask...who's the other St. Louis sports mainstay with a DUI?

    What's the worst

I don't know if they made any changes when it happened, but the Flames bought the team from Hart earlier this decade. I had no idea myself until reading Bret's autobiography earlier in the year.

Any reason given or press conferences yet as far as Savard goes? I'm pretty shocked to hear of it. I was listening to talk radio on my lunch when they said 'unconfirmed report', then they re-iterated that it was unconfirmed. It sounded like a prank or something.

I had them fighting for a playoff spot, probably finishing up on the outside looking in. I don't quite have them in the upper tier yet, but we'll see. What made them so good during their conference final runs over the last two seasons was their depth, and the team's essentially the same as it was then. And absolutely, props to Ruff. It's remarkable that he's coached a team for ten years given the volatile ground all coaches and execs in sports stand on.

The hell happened? I went downstairs after 2 to play some Tiger. I come up a half hour later, and it's in overtime? Habs win in a shootout, so I can sleep tonight, but jeez. Fuck! I forgot all about the hockey pool I signed up for.

    NFL Week 7

Dallas Cowboys @ St. Louis Rams - My finger's on the panic button if I'm a Cowboys fan, but it's still the Rams. A good win Sunday, but Dallas should scratch this one out. San Diego Chargers @ Buffalo Bills: Look like they're back. The Bills keep it close, but ultimately San Diego wins by six. New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers: That, to a tee. Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears: Flip a coin. Two more perplexing teams than above. Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals: The Steelers have pretty quietly gone 4-1. They'll continue to roll here. Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs: All Titans. Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins: I like the Dolphins. They're still, at best, a 6-10 or 7-9 team, but I think they'll get the win here. San Francisco 49ers @ New York Giants: It seems to be overlooked that one of San Fran's wins came against a depleted Seattle team, and the other was the Lions. They're still the Niners. New York was closer than the score indicated Monday, and will come out looking for blood Sunday. Detroit Lions @ Houston Texans New York Jets @ Oakland Raiders - It's been mentioned, but Favre owns my Raiders. Cleveland Browns @ Washington Redskins: I'll say Washington. It's going to be close, though. Indianapolis Colts @ Green Bay Packers: Statement last week, but no Addai? It's another close one, but Indy gets the win. Seattle Seahawks @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: No, but it's not a stretch. Bucs by a bunch. Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots 1. Are the Cowboys a bunch of dumbasses trading for Roy Williams? No. For three picks? Yes. 1a. Are the Cowboys a bunch of dumbasses for signing Pac Man Jones? Nah. They had to know what they were getting into. 1b. Are the Cowboys completely fucked, with Romo out for a month, and a possibly rough stretch on their schedule? Maybe, but probably not. They should get the win this week, but even with Tampa and NYG on the horizon, followed by a bye? They're at worst 5-5 when Romo comes back, and that should still mean 10-6. 2. Which team(s) will Detroit beat this year? They've got a rough go, but since I haven't made up my mind on Carolina (Week 11) or Minny (Week 14), one of those two is my answer. 3. Will the 49ers finish above .500 this season? Nope. They'll surprise at 5-11 or 6-10 (as they don't have a brutal schedule), but 8-8? No. See my SF-NYG pick for more. 4. Who is more disappointing: Ryan Grant or Joseph Addai? Will either man step up big this week, head to head? I'll say Addai, simply because his play is reflective to a degree of the Colts' surprising record. 5. This week, will we see the Browns that got thumped by Dallas, or the Browns that whipped the Giants? Somewhere in between. Washington still is a very good team, and while the Browns will likely be able to turn it around ultimately, Washington's got the edge this week.

I'm very frightened of the Rangers right now. I realise the season's only essentially a week old, but look at the league leaders: Voros and Dubinsky each have seven points, Gomez, Zherdev, and Girardi each have five. That's a balanced attack. I'm sure they'll cool off, but they still have the league's second-best goalie. Worst of all? I feel there's three teams in, or expected to be in, the upper echelon of the East: New York, Pittsburgh, and Montreal. New York and Pittsburgh split the season series last year, and save a twenty-minute brain fart, New York beat up Montreal all season. The Sens collapse last year notwithstanding, New York's going to be on a seven-game win streak by the weekend. They'll be in the driver's seat for a while.

I knew it didn't sound right, but I wanted my rhyme, dammit. What's the word I'm looking for? I don't want it corrected in the title. Anything goes here. Maybe a proper one will pop up in Graphics. Also, we're too hot for TSM.

Also, after further thinking about it: Fuck Sean Avery again. How the hell could anyone not like Iginla? In my opinion, he should be the most marketed player in the league after Ovechkin (yes, ahead of Crosby. I've got the basis of my case lined up, but I'm tired, and can better defend it in the morning, after the potential backlash). He brings something to the table for every fan, and every potential fan: He's a classy guy, a great leader, he scores, he sets up goals, he fights, he hits, he's a minority. Yes, his fight in the second period is what prompted this rant. Edit: Ok, maybe not ahead of Crosby, but it's close. Crosby's personality seems so store-bought. Every interview I've seen with him, he's given cookie-cutter answers. How would a 21-year-old act or talk away from the cameras? Showcase that. I don't mean to the degree that got Tiger Woods in hot water in 96, but to me, what makes Ovechkin so likeable is not just his scoring prowess or dynamic style of play on the ice, but his enthusiasm and fun nature. I'm also a tremendous advocate for the power forward, so maybe I'm a little biased. On the other hand, Crosby's more of a playmaker to me, and Brett Hull is more a household name than Adam Oates.

Still, Iggy gets his first goal and first assist. Bertuzzi scores a pair, now he's up to three for the year.

Apparently Nicholson's well-liked personally, it's not (exclusively) that every single person in Fort Erie is conservative. I'm fairly dumbfounded about Maloney as well. Did Kormos win Welland again? My mother told me when I got home from work how surprised she was that the Liberals beat out the NDP in Welland. I asked about Maloney, and then we kind of went in circles; I think we may have been referring to the same seat.

What are the three 'others' at the bottom of the ticker? I assume they're independents, but I kind of want to see some silly party in Parliament.

Good riddance. Bob Rae or Michael Ignatief would have won Ontario easily and might have brought in a Liberal minority. I still think Ken Dryden should just go around Canada with a hockey mask and say "I'm Ken Dryden" I think people in Ontario would be apprehensive to vote for Rae if he was head of the Grits, as CC eluded to earlier in the thread. On the other hand, he did win his riding again. Do you really see Leaf fans voting for Dryden? (Yes, I realise he was in their front office for a few years). I'm a little surprised the NDP didn't get as many seats, as their popular vote numbers seem to be up, but maybe I'm thinking wishfully. Ultimately, I'm going to stay orange, but re: Dion....I'd always been midway between NDP and Liberal, and ultimately voted Liberal. AdScam swung me to the left. I'm pretty well over it, but the Grits might have a better chance of getting my vote if they had a leader that wasn't Stephane Dion. I get the feeling, to a degree, that I'm not alone there.
