I noticed that too. He did so on Raw the following night as well.

Remember when I mentioned an interview with Future Shop in June? They figured out that I wasn't going to be in Calgary forever, and told me to call a local store when I got home, and eventually an interview would come. That day was today. I don't find out until mid-week, but that's not why I'm posting. I was told to look around while the interviewer was getting ready, and I heard this gem from a woman looking at Wii stuff: Customer: What are these? (Picks up Wii Component Cable) Saleswoman: Wii Component Cable. They improve the picture quality of your Wii. Customer: Oh. Well, I have a hi-def TV already, so I won't even need them.

Most people think of Tobias Fünke, but they're not from blue-jeans, they're from grey pants. They're somewhat fashionable in the bike culture, and I like wearing them more than pants. I inherited the "I get hot way too quickly" gene from my dad. Leave me out of this. Of note, I bought my first pair of jorts this summer. And finally, most of my aforementioned workshirts were bought during college for a lark. As I described in Things That Piss You Off, I can essentially where any item of clothing I own, anywhere - it's almost entirely golf shirts and pants or khakis, nearly all items are a solid colour. In addition to the jorts, I bought a pair of jeans this summer, the first time I'd worn them since high school, and even they were for a placement agency job. I do still own a few t-shirts and jerseys for barbecues and whatnot in the summer. And yes, I too hate long-sleeves altogether. I have a turtleneck that I almost refuse to wear for such reasons.

Early Kansas City at Carolina Chicago at Detroit - 2-0 against the Bears last year. I'll gamble here. Atlanta at Green Bay - Is Rodgers still iffy? I'll roll the dice here, too. San Diego at Miami - Statement game. Seattle at NY Giants - No Plaxico, and Seattle needs a boost. I think they'll come out firing. Washington at Philadelphia Tennessee at Baltimore Indianapolis at Houston - This one should be close. Houston played well against Indy last year, plus the home opener. Still, I think it's time for Indy's offence to get going again. Late Tampa Bay at Denver - Just a hunch. Buffalo at Arizona New England at San Francisco Cincinnati at Dallas - Another statement after a tough loss last week. Dallas wins by 200. SNF Pittsburgh at Jacksonville - Flip a coin. MNF Minnesota at New Orleans

1. Who is the best team in the league? I still think Dallas. Tennessee is for real, but they're a clear #2, IMO. 2. Who is the worst team in the league? St. Louis. 3. Who is going to take a big step forward the next 4 games? See answer 5. Failing that, I think San Diego has turned the corner after a slow start. 4. Rookie of the year candidates? I'm just gonna go the homer route here and say McFadden. 5. Other than Brady, what is the most costly injury to have happened so far? While Indy's d hasn't been awful, it could be Bob Sanders, especially with the offence not winning games for Indy the way it has the last three or four years. The week off could be the spark they need.

Long live Al Davis! Can I take him 20 times in next year's pool?

Asking Tunney to shake his hand after? That's awesome!

I had a stretch where I had a collection of workshirts/uniforms from places where I didn't (and never did) work. They included Subway and Toys'R'Us. I was really jealous of my buddy's 7-11 shirt, bought under a similar pretext.

Why is that? I know formally that a C is supposed to be the only one allowed to discuss calls with the officials, but given how lax that rule generally is, is this just keeping up appearances?

McCain: Instead of emergency room, go to Wal-Mart
CanadianGuitarist replied to CuddlyKnife's topic in Current Events
Anyone see the irony here? A thread whose title ends in "Wal*Mart" has dissolved into a big = good discussion? -
Huge blow for the Penguins' blueline today. Sergei Gonchar will undergo shoulder surgery. He's out for potentially six months. Sixty points and 25 minutes a game? This is a monster loss.

Yes. And awesome, I'll be home by then. Shit, no TBS in HD here. </marvin> Thanks.

I'll probably be Amish for the third straight year. I really like having an alibi for not shaving for weeks on end. Wasn't someone going as a post-money-shot Patti Mayonnaise?

ITT discuss music from video games [specifically SNES?]
CanadianGuitarist replied to a topic in Music
Since the lack of a theme for HNIC was discussed in Sports over the weekend, this seems like a good time and place for this: NHL '94. If anyone here hasn't heard Jim Hughson before, you're in for a treat. You may recall him as the voice of Triple Play '01 for one of the Playstations (probably PS1, at that point). I didn't, as you'll see in the YouTube comments below. -
I think it's going to be kind of cool to see Tampa and Milwaukee in the playoffs this year. Have they announced what time the one-game playoff is tomorrow? I may have to rethink my after-work plans.

The Steelers get a first down! Tony Kornheiser thinking aloud to start the third "Why are they lined up in the shotgun? Power has been Pittsburgh offence for forty years!?" has pretty well been the quintessential call this game so far from what I've seen.

What exactly is this big update? I've heard things like avatars in the vein of Mii's, different dashboard interface.....

I think they are. It's reasonable to say that both wild cards are going to be from the East, so that's three teams fighting for two spots, with a half-dozen interdivision games. I can honestly see every team in the NFC East going 12-4 or 11-5. Washington looked great yesterday. They didn't slaughter Dallas, but they did beat, with some comfort, the best team in football.
-
I'm still torn on them. They looked good against JAX today, but awful against the equally-torn-on Steelers in Week One. I'll rule out Week Three, since I think the Titans really are this good. Other musings: * As mentioned in the KKK Pick'Em, I really didn't see New York winning over Arizona, and certainly not by means of 56 points. * Ditto for Denver-KC, but I didn't realise how much history was on Kansas' side. * I really don't know why I was so adamant about Cleveland losing. Just a hunch, I guess. * I'm disappointed in the Raiders loss, or perhaps moreso, the fourth quarter. I didn't see any of the second half, but it doesn't sound very comforting. * The Bills are also this good, but need to play a little better in the first half. * Any news on Boldwin (sic)? My remote got a hell of a workout today, so Ari-NY was off for good by the two-minute warning. * I took my own advice (or Czech's), and picked Chicago in my bar pools. Omen, baby. What a great finish in that game. I'm going to regret staying up to watch it, having to work in....yikes, 5.5 hours, but still. * How did Matt Bryant's son die? My God, that's awful, and I really admire him for playing today, let alone hitting 3 XP and 3 FG's.

That's awesome! I didn't read the 'recption' part at first, but that's still all kinds of awesome. A buddy of mine told me he had a dream the other night that I came down the aisle at my wedding to Bret Hart's theme. I wouldn't say it's my favourite, but nothing quite stirs me like the theme to The Masters.
-
Sons of bitches. Never once this week did the thought of New York beating Arizona occur to me, and certainly not 56-35.

Ditto again, CC. The CBC's decline to renew the rights to the theme has been a pretty second-guessed issue by some, and a praised one by a select few. Nancy something-or-other has made forseeably millions on it, but from what I understand, nothing from cell phone ring tones, commercial, etc., just the broadcast. On the other hand, seven or eight figures it a lot to make for anyone, and any kind of proud Canadian would take a slight pay cut. (This is paraphrased from a letter to the Toronto Sun the day after CTV bought the rights. I ultimately agree, but I see the songwriter's case). Long known as "out second anthem", it's more associated with the broadcast than the logo or the old blue blazers. It's not going to affect my enjoyment of CBC's coverage, but it's going to be something. As I understand it, the negotiations went something like this: One year ago Writer: I want 3 million dollars. CBC: Nope. Writer: Fine, see you next June before it expires. June Writer: Gonna pay me what I asked? CBC: Nope. Writer: Fine. Again, as CC mentioned, that's the CBC. My dad said Randy Bachman has entered five themes in this contest.....As much as I don't like the idea of Nickelback replacing a legendary ditty, the "Saturday Night" packages have always been well done, and it's an apropos tune. Has no one at the CBC considered throwing Stompin Tom a few hundred k?

Get an Arnold Palmer. He's on my list next year, I think. Even for non-death reasons, it's a very good drink.
-
My exact thoughts. Did we ever discuss CTV/TSN buying the theme from CBC?

What is the most important thing in your life?
CanadianGuitarist replied to Mik's topic in No Holds Barred
That's fucking awesome. I miss the hell out of mine from when I was a kid. And it was technically my brother's, but vol. 5 was wicked, too. Don Cherry in a techno remix equals teh secks. My buddy Methot is still watching his VHS copy of the 1987-88 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
