    HDTV

What's the response time like on DLP typically? I'm finding the set at my folks to be a bit laggy, specifically during ball games, but I can't tell if it's the TV or Rogers Sportsnet's production values.

    NHL Draft

Edit: After spending four days limping my computer through a virus/spy sweep, we're forseeably back up and running. For the record, I have had this PC since 2006. In nearly three years of porn and gambling online, not a single problem. SNEAKERS O FUCKING TOOLE sent my computer into a tailspin. Double edit: I kind of like the story above, so even six months later, I'll keep it....anyway, I've brought up the draft in conversation a few times with people who aren't posters here. His knee-sliding celebration after scoring in OT is one of my favourite hockey highlights ever. Fuckin' Theo Fleury is a longstanding inside joke - a buddy of mine wanted to take his then-girlfriend on a date, but had no money. He thought his 1990 Pro Set Theo Fleury card would pay for said date, if traded in at a card shop. It did not. This was Theo's fault. ** I like him. JJ does not.

Madden, NFL Head Coach, and NCAA Football 2009

Mine's lower, but I didn't do the tests, I let it start at 500. I know why it's lower, but I don't want to give away anything to my leaguemates. That said, I'm enjoying this (as you all may have gathered from the time of this post). I won my first two games in Raiders franchise, 24-10 and 27-24. That's a definite change from winning games in 07 by scores of 56-7, etc. I'm definitely going to enjoy the playoffs a lot more than prior years....if I get there.

    SABOTAGED!!!

There was a guy I backyarded with named Kevin Sabo. His in-ring name was Sabotage. Incredibly, his entrance theme was not Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. What specifically happened with Jericho and HHH? I've never heard that, though given that it was the time when HHH's star began to rise, it won't surprise me.

    Photoshop help needed

I could use some help, too. I'm trying to change a picture of Steve Irwin and the "Croc Hunter" logo into my face and "Cougar Hunter". It's surprisingly tricky to do on Paint.

Madden, NFL Head Coach, and NCAA Football 2009

That's kinda disappointing. The legitimate leagues in the 2k series were phenomenal. I did both a football one with some guys I didn't know, and a hockey one with six buddies. I'd like to see something more like that, but VX killed that horse already. Since I haven't received my pay from last week, I shouldn't get it tomorrow. I'll probably cave and pick one up, though.

    Debuts than Downfalls

They certainly pushed Taka as a face, but the turn and joining of Kai en Tai didn't do much for him. An endless feud with The Oddities ruined him. As mentioned, Waylon Mercy was an awesome character, and even had a house show series with Diesel for the strap. It's too bad. I'll probably recall Ahmed for his backstage antics more than anything else, but, bad mic work aside, he was insanely over in 96.

    This Week in Baseball 8/11 - 8/17

It's only a 30-buck payout, but I entirely based my ProLine today on Danks' poor record lifetime against the Bosox (0-2, 8.68). Of course, that didn't work too well last week when Jeff Karstens threw a two-hitter in his second start in eighteen months.

    HDTV

As you eluded to, it's probably moot when you get your new set, as nearly all have multiple HDMI ins. As far as now? When I had my HD set, I ran the set-top box off component for a few weeks before I went to DVI-HDMI. I didn't notice a great improvement, with the exception of text being less noisy. (I watch a lot of sports tickers, although it was hardly earth-shattering). I'd say take the 100 bucks or so that you'd spend on an HDMI switcher (though I'm sure you could find one cheaper on Ebay), and pocket it. For what it's worth, when I get my place back in a few weeks, I plan on getting an HD set again. I found a 3ft. HDMI on Ebay for a buck and a DVI-HDMI for five. That's awesome. My stepdad and I have four times watched TV together since he got an HDTV. Each time, he's put a show on. Each time I've suggested putting it on in HD. Each time he's said "I paid for a full picture, that's what I'm getting. Why would you want to watch a small picture with those bars on the side?" Groan. I ranted about this in this very thread last March, and I bet it was nearly word for word.

    Austin Powers 4 Planned

I had dinner at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant last October with my dad and brother. We asked how often Wayne was in, etc. She said occasionally, but a handful of other celebrities came in pretty often. When she mentioned Mike Myers, we asked what he was like. She said he was a diva (which a passing-by waitress confirmed as well). We were kind of surprised by it, but after thinking about it for a while, it made sense. Now, the Conan story doesn't surprise me at all. Does anyone think Wayne's World is so beloved is because it was the only SNL movie that didn't suck?

This is the thread where we discuss animals fighting

I'm disappointed this didn't take off. Some show on Discovery (RN?) is doing a thing in Zambia comparing hippos and crocs. Apparently, hippos kill about 300 people a year. This crazy fuck is going into a croc farm in South Africa in a wire cage, like the guys who videotape sharks. Edit: RN is Rogue Nature. The graphic under the name said Hippo/Croc, like it was a hype video for a wrestling match. I'm typically pretty indifferent to nature shows, but this looks awesome.

    TSM Death Pool - 2008

Huzzah! I have Paul Newman, after all. I just read the thread in Movies about him. It turned out my fist-pump in Sobey's last year over Pavarotti was needless, and that was the closest I've come so far. This comes off the heels of former golfer Orville Moody dying Friday. (See my Gay Brewer comment in last year's pool). There were a lot of black and white clips during this weekend's PGA Championship; I should have been taking notes.

The Things That Anger You Thread.

I'm making my first trip here in a week and change, so pardon my delayed post. Remember a few years ago in Pics I Like, when someone had Booker T in his sig, looking as if he was admiring the picture. Invariably, everyone said "Hey, Booker T's admiration makes it even better!" This principle kind of applies to Great Mazto's donut and bacon sammich avatar in the Taiga discussion (who, by the way, I'm not ragging on). That is all. Wait, no it isn't. Czech grossly misspelled his assessment of retail complaining. The proper spelling is 'true'.

    The Golf Thread

Unquestionably, Paddy's the PotY in my books. Tiger not being there is irrelevant. Was Tiger not there when Phil won the 05 PGA, 06 Masters, and gave away the 06 US? Was Tiger not there when Vijay won nine times in 04? Was Tiger not there in 98 when O'Meara won two majors. He was there, which proves these feats can occur with Tiger in the field, and as such, shouldn't make Padraig's 2008 any lesser.

EMHE and Max each received a last-place vote. (One for Max, five for EMHE). * Only three of CC's votes would not medal at the Olympics. He had two fourths and a fifth. Every other vote was double digits. * CG had a range of 2-8. * Angle had a range of 2-12. * TakerHart had sixth last-place votes, and a twelfth. His highest vote was fourth place. * 909, in addition to his first-place vote, had a range of 2-10, including five seconds. * Gert's highest vote was 7. He did not have a last-place vote, but did have two 11's and four 12's. * MFer had a range of 3-13. He had two 3rd-place votes. * Nskie did not have a vote in double digits, nor anything higher than third, of which he was voted four times. * Treble had a range of 5-11, including five 6th-place votes. * Smartly's range was 5-12. He had three 5th-place votes, and three 11's. * JJ had a range of 2-12. That 2 was one of only five single-digit votes. * Goblin had a range of 4-12, both of which he had two. * In addition to his four first-place votes, Max also had a 13. That was his only vote lower than eight, including a second and four 5's.

The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread

Lest anyone think I'm slighting my board buddy, I called him Friday morning. I was going to recommend a name change to eliminate the 'ghost of' confusion, but his YouTube account is CanadianBassist, which does one of two things: 1) Suggests a gimmick account. 2) Still doesn't entirely show up in Venkman's visitors, further enraging him. This could be fun.

Since my paycheque is being mailed to me from 2500 kilometres away, a week from launch is ideal. I'll enter as the Raiders. Phase III of "For God's sake, let's get something football-related of CG's into the playoffs" has begun.

    The who, what, and hunh?

Since TSM has now become my spot for financial advice, help me out with mortgages. I've got an idea of what rates mean, and how they would apply to each customer individually. I had a meeting at the bank, who told me to get out of debt beforehand. Fine, makes sense to me; but I'd like to know what I'm up against in the fall when I'm debt-free. They kinda shied away questions about ammortization and what not. Two things I need cleared up: 1) I was looking at saving up 7500 for a down payment. The mortgage I was looking at was 8.05%, I don't recall the length, but it was 7% cashback, which works out to somwhere around 7500 or 8000 for whatever, which I'd use for furniture, appliances, and to start an RRSP. Am I better off doing that, or using the 7500 I had intended as a down payment to buy the appliances, etc? The rate would obviously be lower, but the bank kept insisting it was the way to go, along with the down payment, which seems to be counterproductive. 2) Second, the question they mostly didn't answer. Here's my estimated formula: 150,000 (extremely liberal estimate) after down payment, plus 10% interest (extremely liberal estimate) = 165,000. 165,000/25 = $6600 per year. $6600/52 = $253 and change as a bi-weekly mortgage payment. Is that accurate/fair of me to come up with? Mortgage calculators, even with about a mortgage principal of about $20/25000 less (more likely), at about 8%, still come up with roughly $900 a month. If the mortgage calculators I used are more likely correct, equity schmequity, 300/400 month a more to a mortgage (as opposed to rent) doesn't seem worth it when I'm netting 16 or 1700 a month anyway.

    The who, what, and hunh?

There's not too much economic slowdown in Canada right now, certainly not to the degree to the south. To that end, I'm beginning to think a rent-to-own might be a more viable option. Both TD and President's Choice both offer stellar variable rates at the moment, but require a down payment. I figure both my down payment and closing cost/furnishing lists would be around 6000, so I'm better off in the long run by getting into a place sooner and paying less on a mortgage by putting something down. It turns out the Broker I talked to was really vague; when he said "I can get you pre-approved for $130k on an $100k home", he neglected to mention that it was based entirely on the ratio of the house's appraisal value compared to sale price. That burst my freakin bubble.

    NHL Draft

You just answered your own question. I'm surprised no one picked up on his team name, which I gave him, due to his indifference to submitting one. The London Silly Nannies were the team Peter Griffin played football for against Brady and the Patriots. This finished before the NBA Draft? I've heard that's been a Gong Show, but I've never actually followed it.
