I'll be damned. I vaguely recalled the Habs, but would have never said the 91-92 Rangers.

Who were the others? I heard both TSN and The Score mention that, but little else. Also, remember when Vancouver beat Edmonton on the last night in 2004? When the fans sang 'nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye' at the Oilers? I'd like Vancouver to get into the playoffs, obviously, but karma.

No. I stated that same thing in this thread and was corrected. 1080i shows more pixels than 720p, so 1080i could not equal 540p. Something stable on the screen, and 1080i would be better than 720p. 720p would be better for onstant, quick motion. That makes sense. Thanks.

    PlayStation 3

The PS2 was also a lot of people's first DVD player at the time as well. It was a selling point at the time. guilty. The BR feature is a selling point for me on PS3. The backwards compatibility thing kind of has me baffled even after much research. Blah. Mine as well. I had often made the case to customers that the PS3 was cheaper than a BR anyway, and was an even further bargain considering what it could do. But I haven't seen the desire for BR, even with it winning out over HDDVD, the way we saw when DVD's were introduced.

Top 10 Favorite Musicians of All Time

Are you the guy who did the Board Game Survey? The Tragically Hip, Rush, and Tool are my big three - I've never been able to put a formal list together past that.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Leena's, like, the only person ever who didn't put a space in my name. And also, Czech, when are you planning on changing your Loggins thing? There's a connection to golf (a timely one, no less), that I'll bring up in the forthcoming April golf thread. Edit: And done.

Boston's OT loss ties them for sixth with the Sens, who have a quick shot at redemption tomorrow night againt the Leafs, then Friday against Boston. My money's on Philly being the team to miss the playoffs - they didn't do themselves any favours tonight against Pittsburgh, and Washington can likely turn the heat on a bit this weekend. Ottawa's (regular) season finishes Friday night, meaning they'll set the bar for both Philly and Washington, who finish on Sunday. Philly's got a tough schedule coming in (New Jersey Friday, and a last chance at Pittsburgh Sunday), while Washington takes on three-in-four-night Tampa Thursday, and Florida on Saturday - and Tampa certainly didn't 'play spoiler' against the Canes tonight. For all the complaining about the poor scheduling (most of it just), I like that the final eight games for each team are all against divisional opponents. My PVR is set for the Sens post-game tomorrow. I expect a Jim Mora-esque rant from Bryan Murray if the Sens don't get at least a point out of the Leafs.

I certainly don't think it was. The talent was fairly thin, but it wasn't a train wreck, and the match itself was reasonably entertaining.

This is my favourite and most frequented folder. It's great the way it is - there really is something for everyone. Even Tennis got some discussion when Leena was allowed.

TSM Town Hall: The Brand Extension - Six Years Later

They could even allow for a "Smackdown AND ECW vs. Raw" kind of feel, like a less-botched Alliance, but I think that re-inforces Raw's #1 spot.

TSM Town Hall: The Brand Extension - Six Years Later

While I'm not out to spit in the face of rules, most of my answers lead towards my theory, and not the other way around. 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how successful has the brand extension been? Why? Somewhere between a 3 and 4. It certainly hasn't been a total flop, and we'd still never have seen, say, CM Punk or Londrick on television if HHH worked Monday and Tuesday. To an extent, though negated to a huge degree by Benoit, it meant increased time off or a less-hectic schedule than working two or more tv shows. 2. Has the extension helped to create new stars that wouldn't have had a chance to shine in the old set-up? Is it more effective than having one brand? Definitely. There's been those who have fallen through the cracks (neither of the Dudleys shined on their own, for example), but recall, say, the SmackDown Six. Routinely stealing the show, all of whom were legitimate main eventers, which likely would not have been the case if it was still one set of storylines, at least not all six men involved. 3. What has been the biggest success of the split? The biggest failure? The biggest success, in my mind, has been the seeds being planted for 'dream matches' - two that immediately jump to mind are from WM21: Taker-Orton and Angle-HBK. Both were rematches six months later, but they're both forgotten, and I think a lot of it has to do with being on the same show (Orton was on SD at that point, wasn't he? Angle and HBK were certainly both on Raw by the summer of 05). The biggest failure has been two sets of world and tag titles. (Though a secondary title per show, de facto, is harmless). It's devalued them - did Ric Flair ever hold Edge's title, for example. A belt just introduced or given isn't a title, and we've seen that more than once during the split. 4. Have fans come to accept Raw and Smackdown as two separate brands with their own characteristics, or just tv shows with different wrestlers doing the same thing? The latter. Why? More on that forthcoming. 5. How much longer do you see the brand extension lasting? Do you still think it's a good idea? It's a good idea in principle, but it hasn't worked on the whole - still it's tough to give it an expiry date. Maybe two or three more years. The problem is competition. I can see why the brand-specific PPV's ended, but the Big Four need to have an All-Star-Game feel to them, which they do to an extent, but if something like perks or brand prestige were added, it's a whole new dynamic. Give one brand the WWE title, the other the WWE tag titles. Only one show can have each champion, and have maybe one inter-brand match per show. The WWE and World titles make sense semantically, but that's about all. Have guys brag about why they're on the better brand, have the winner of the Rumble get the absolute main event slot at the WM, bring back the KotR and have it four Raw guys and four SD guys - there's a variety of ways to make it happen, but it won't with Raw still untouched as the perceived #1 brand. If the whole idea was to recreate the competitive feel of the Monday Night Wars, it needs to be treated as such.

I spoke to a few Best Buy guys, and they seemed pretty high on Insignia as well. I guess LG makes a lot of the parts. Keeping in mind that I fully understand the difference between interlaced and progressive, is it fair to equate (for the sake of comparison) 1080i to 540p? I understand that progressive scan is better with fluid motion and whatnot, but if I were to compare 1080i to 720p involving something stable on screen (say, a nature show with lots of still images), is that a fair assessment?

    NHL Thread

Here's why Iginla stands out for me: When they went to the finals in 2004, who got most of the credit? Kiprusoff. As a coach or GM, I would love to have Kipper, but he's probably not on the tier that he was placed upon that season. Has Calgary suffered because of that? No. Why? Iginla. I'm not denying how valuable Ovechkin is, and have no problem with him getting the Pearson. But Mike Green's 17 goals and the best 1-2 goalie punch in the league have little to do with him. And as I've said before, all bets are off if the Caps get into the playoffs.

Why not Iginla, outside of his cold streaks? Daymond Langkow and Kristian Huselius would not be 25-goal scorers anywhere else in the league. And after reviewing the standings/stats earlier, I find it fascinating that the second-highest scoring team in the league, Buffalo, will not make the playoffs.

I still think Iginla or Malkin if the Caps don't get in. There's no question it's Alex O if the Caps make the playoffs, and no one but him deserves the Pearson, either.

    Could an alligator

Few ground rules to consider: - Stairs are normal steepness, eight or ten steps, 18 inches-or-so wide. - Regular-sized alligator, six feet long, foot or so wide. - Hardwood steps (i.e, gator can not gain traction from carpet). - The gator is not hungry and looking for a meal. The gator is not being baited by anything at the top of the staircase. The gator is not exceptionally lazy. I maintain that it's not gonna be able to climb due to the shortness of the front claws. A co-worker insists that the low centre of gravity will allow it to keep moving, regardless of terrain. (That may have been lost in translation). Thoughts? There's a weeks worth of coffee (which forseeably will become six beer for me, as I don't drink coffee) on the line.

Assuming you got it at Best Buy (based on the price on their website), you got a steal. Even 729 was a good price.
