The Best Sports Movie of All Time
CanadianGuitarist replied to foleyfanforever88's topic in Television & Film
There was no third one. There was, but consider yourself lucky. I think Cerrano was the only returnee. -
^ When the Habs made it 2-0, I was prepared to tell you "Well, the Jays won". Then the Yankees took the lead, and...... Beat the snot out of Toronto on Thursday.

Brian Mulroney did in 90, along with George HW. That's the only time I ever remember it happening - and the fact they opened against the Texas Rangers probably had something to do with it. Agreed. And a few stolen bases - they're doing something about their problems of last year. To continue the 'same ol' end of things, 1-11 with runners on base.

Retirement angles or matches thread
CanadianGuitarist replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in General Wrestling
The retirement match against Bret was indeed in Beyond the Mat, at a commemorative show entitled 'Fifty Years of Funk'. You'll surely recall Dennis Stamp repeatedly stating "I'm not booked." That was for Funk's retirement. -

If it's gang warfare, wolves would own everything. Humans are the only thing keeping them in check. I think they covered this in the "world without people" special on TLC or Discovery or one of channels. Wolves would just multiply like crazy and just take over. That also rules out piranha, who I always put-together as like, 50=1. If they're on their own, there's no debating sharks win the water category. I didn't do that bracket, either....yet. -

Hippos can be beasts but they only really have one method of attack which is to swing their jaws around and slash with their tusks. If something speedy like a tiger or bear could avoid that and end up jumping on the hippos back or locking a good grip on the hippo's neck it'd be dust. Are bears that speedy? -

So I'm thinking, something along the lines of: All water-based animals. All flying animals. North American land animals. African land animals. Australian land animals. But that's a little broad. That'd mean like 20 animals in one group and two or three in another. We'll see. I don't know about weapons. I mean, probably not, but who am I to say "No, dammit! No weapons! We must preserve the integrity of the fight between a hippopotamus and a kangaroo!" -

Rhinos and hippos have to be sleeper picks. I'll have a World Cup prelim bracket by the end of the day. I really have nothing to do outside of the ballgame anyway. -

That's actually how most people die in croc/gator attacks. They were my longstanding pick in an Animal Royal Rumble, but I never appreciated how big great whites were. Should this become a knock-out bracket tournament? Or maybe a World Cup style set-up, with preliminary groups based on the continents? I say yes, but I've always liked tournaments. -

Doug. I really liked Doug when I was a kid.* * That youtube thread in Movies/TV made my $10 computer crash. Fuck embedding with a cactus dildo. Edit: I dug Unsolved Mysteries too, but it gave me nightmares. -

A buddy and I have long pondered polar bear vs. lion. Venue is key to any animal fight. -
That's terrible. Even I got 22. I said average/middle across the board, except for the fighting dirty, and the martial arts training, which I did have, like, six months of. It's been a rough day for me and hypothetical quizzes. My buddy sent me a "Which Golfer Are You?" Facebook app, which didn't include Canadian among the nationalities - with that out of the way, I deliberately answered everything to apply to Phil Mickelson, and I wound up as Els - which is fine, but I'm lefty - that's like forgetting to mention you're missing a limb or two when filling out the kindergartener one.

Post of the day. And welcome back. I was named CanadianGuitarist when you were last here.

I'm enjoying following Ortonsault's (mis)adventures through Whiny Bitches. I hope he tells us more when his vacation's over (or even during, I guess). Know how sometimes neighbours will come over and show vacation slides, and you dread the thought of it prior to? That's nothing like this. -
Eighteen! The fuck?

I'm of no help, I just wanted to offer that we're too hot for tsm!

I really hope you mean the gator question. Not that I wish ill regarding the thread being taken over, but should anything affilliated with TSM be put on display? Probably not.

I laid the smackdown on some ho last night...
CanadianGuitarist replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in No Holds Barred
Two things strike me about this thread, and neither directly involve Simon. First, to the person who didn't understand how anyone could beat Mike for 20 minutes - talk to Mike for a while. Twenty minutes was letting him off easy. This leads into my second noticing: Did Mike and Simon ever interact with one another here? Simon would have made Mike puke. -

I have some buddies who loved ML2, and I've always answered them the same way. If they had seen them sequentially, they'd notice a huge difference. Not the second was a train wreck or anything, but it wasn't even close. -
A Bruins win in regulation will officially knock out the Sabres today. Huge win for Washington last night.

I wouldn't mind seeing that again. I had all five on tape fromBodyslam Week in 99. I'd really like to see Owen's again as well - I'd forgot, until reading Bret's book a few days ago, that Paul Jay did Owen's as well.
-
I think we will. They've kinda eased him back into history on the website.

Worst WrestleMania from Each Era
CanadianGuitarist replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
Federation Era: I don't remember anything enjoyable about IV, with the exception of Bob Uecker, particularly his expression when Andre's choking him. Attitude Era: WrestleMania XV. As mentioned, Bret-Austin bails out XIII. Current Era: There hasn't been a bad one yet. My answer, I guess, is XXI, just given the predictability of the ME - something that wasn't really present in any of the others with the exception of XVIII. XX was obvious, as well, but were he not a murdering bastard (sorry to beat that horse again), it would have been my top 3 wrestling moments, ever. -
TSM Town Hall: Legacy of a Great Match at Mania
CanadianGuitarist replied to Dandy's topic in The WWE Folder
1. What wrestler has had the most memorable Mania matches for you? I'd like to say Bret, but I'm not sure if that's fair - he might be a 'sleeper' answer, because he really doesn't have a big moment the way an Austin or an HBK has. My favourite matches are his (Piper, Owen, and Austin), but two of those involved him essentially putting the other guy over. Even his title win at X is kind of forgotten. Incidentally, Mick Foley fits my above description in the same way. I loved his match with Edge, and his tag title win with the Funker, but he put Edge over, and his tag match isn't a classic either. So my answer, with that in mind, is Austin - two of my all-time faves at XIII and XVII, and, during the height of my mark age, coming off the heels of Montreal, I was thrilled that he beat HBK. 2. Has anyone been "made" from a Wrestlemania match? If so, whom? Austin of course, but I'd also say Owen, and all three teams in the TLC matches. (Was it a TLC, or just a ladder match at XVI?) I'd say the Warrior, but that might be a stretch. 3. What match do you think of first when you think of a big Mania match? Hulk-Andre, with Bret-Austin just behind. 4. How important is a memorable entrance for a match at Mania? How much does that add to the feel of the match? It varies. I don't remember the Iron Man match for HBK's entrance, but I do remember Chris Warren singing for him two years later. I also remember, quite well, Taker at XIV, and Motorhead and Warren for HHH. The one I think had the biggest impact on my memory is answered below. To a lesser degree, I remember the carts at III and VI, but they didn't add any feel. 5. Who has had the best Mania entrance that has added to the feel of the match? Bret-Austin. The glass breaking was cool, Austin had an awesome swagger to the ring, and Bret had this great look of determination walking over the glass, a "nothing's going to stop me from getting my hands on you" feel. Even something minor, like Fink's introduction, stands out.
