Comments that don't warrant a thread

What I'm noticing a lot with Phelps (not that I'm really defending him), is a bit of hypocrisy from the media. "Folks, Michael Phelps did something terrible. A picture of him doing something terrible is available. We're outraged by how terrible this picture is. Now, have a look at this picture!"

I had one on Hardcore Hockey Talk a few weeks ago. It is kinda cool to have them say your name on air, isn't it?

    NHL Thread

You're right, the more I think about it. Finding Emery as a diamond in the rough was great for....two or three months. When I really think about it, I think of Murray as the guy who let his top three defenceman get away last year, one of whom was Redden, who was chosen in favour of Chara.

Who cares? The more airtime he gets, the happier I am.

Gorilla Monsoon? I noticed this one a lot during football season, after any big hit or potential injury. "He got hit right in the <insert body part>." Never, say "a tough hit to the face when the defender tried to intercept", or "and this replay shows a violent knee-on-knee collision."

Incident w/ the Most Negative Impact on Wrestling

Though I ultimately disagree with Vince's decision to continue the show, I've always kind of given him a pass; he was in such a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" position.

Underachieving seems a little unfair. They had Dan Cloutier in net.

    NHL - January 2009

Two "possibles" came pretty close to being cemented Friday, didn't they? Mason for Calder and Ottawa getting in the Tavares-Hedman extravaganza. But, 2-8 on Pro Line last night. I really don't know much about hockey.

    NHL - January 2009

Crawford does have an awful voice, doesn't he? If it cheers you up, I'd forgotten how much I hated Bob Cole. Side question: After Buckner, throughout history, who would you say is most remembered for a error, blooper or mistake? Leon Lett? The reason I ask is my first thought of Crawford is him leaving Gretzky on the bench in Nagano. To the complete opposite of the Hab discussion involving character - big ups to Luke Schenn for being ready to go last night after hitting Malkin. I'm not necessarily opposed to breaking 'the code', but good for Schenn. The Malkin hit was clean, and Schenn knew he was gonna have to drop 'em at some point. By the way, what was the verdict on Kennedy? Did it count as a line change, or will he be suspended?

    TMC1982 is on fire...

I didn't want to ask this in one of his thread, lest I imply I want him there - aren't all new members Larvae for a little while at first?

I saw the selection we had at Best Buy. No customer ever asked me personally about them, but I did kinda learn the basics of them. They seem like a great idea, and I like the concept of "anything with IR" being controlled by one: TV, STB, BluRay player, ht receiver, 360. Yeah, I think I'd benefit. I should have picked one up (or two, for that matter) when my staff discount meant essentially 50% off. I was going to get one for Christmas for my grandparents, one of whom is blind, who are in the market for a new TV and surround sound system. Then we implemented a $10 dollar limit on gifts that weren't to charity.

Why Has the NHL Traditionally Done Poorly on US TV?

The fact that the NHL doesn't do well on TV isn't Bettman's fault. Trying to force it upon Americans is.

We let it off the hook! My dad and I were driving from his house to a bar during the first quarter of the Steelers-Ravens, and we had the game on AM radio. The host said "and I'm back, with Dennis Green doing colour". We didn't realise he was doing that now, so we thought it may have been a coincidence. Then Green started talking, and even though he was calm, his voice was exactly the same as it was in "if you wanna crown 'em, then crown their ass!". It was hilarious. I can't imagine Green, say, answering his wife when she offers him breakfast. "I want some toast....and cereal....with a glass of milk!"

Also, I've officially given up on my hopes of an Xbox BluRay add-on, and have added a Blu Ray player to my TV wishlist. I'll endure having five(five!) remotes and a little less space in my entertainment centre.

I don't entirely agree, but you're more right than wrong. A buddy of mine has a house brand TV, which we talked about last weekend. If, say, 2 or 3 Samsung or Sony's die within manufacturer's warranty, compared to say, 15-20 Prima's or Cineplus - he's still got an 80% chance of a working set in a year. What I didn't quite get happened pretty often at Best Buy: Someone would spend 800 bucks on a Dynex, then happily drop 200 or 300 on the extended warranty, rather than spending 850 or 900 on a reputable brand. That seemed a little ridiculous to me.

Incident w/ the Most Negative Impact on Wrestling

What are you, out of your mind? To the mainstream media, Benoit's heinous acts are equally bad as David Arquette's title win, or the bankruptcy of ECW? Also, how in the world was the Attitude Era a negative point for wrestling as a whole? A few advertisers lost, but an era when wrestling reached previously unimaginable heights, and became arguably as mainstream as the Rock N'Wrestling era - this is bad for business? If we're looking at it from a mark perspective, in the late spring and summer of '98, all of the Big Three were putting out their best product. This is bad how? In this order: Benoit, steroid trials, Over The Edge, Mass Transit. I can't even think of anything else that really even hurt a little to the general public.

The sports coverage and announcing thread

It's not like me to bitch about PTI, but Monday, the Happy Birthday segment was directed to Ellen. I have no problem with Ellen, but it was also the birthday of Chris Chelios, Bob Uecker, and Wayne Gretzky! They mentioned them, but fifteen seconds of Ellen love, a passing mention of three Hall of Famers/Future HoF's. Come on.

Things that Amuse or Please You

My athiest friend says 'gesundheit', which actually means "good health". Tickets for the Sharks-Sabres on Feb. 13. A buddy of mine got them for free, but agreed to give me one if I bought dinner that night at an all-you-can-eat pizza/wing place for fifteen bucks opposite HSBC Arena. So, I'll get to see a good hockey game, have a tonne of food, and get drunk, for probably 40 bucks. That pleases me. Also, CIM, the marketing company for whom I work, had plenty of work for me in December, and I got paid on New Year's Eve. My seasonal tenure at Best Buy ended a few days before that. I got hired to manage a Blockbuster two weeks ago, and my first shift was Monday. CIM happened to have work for me this week and next week, both 40 hours, albeit overnight. But I was able to balance both jobs for the two-week period. My first paycheque since New Year's Eve will be on the same day, from both jobs - Feb. 13. A double paycheque after six weeks without amuses and pleases me.

    The current economy

I don't have a family to feed, but let's say it costs, eating all .99 cent burgers and fries, 12 bucks for a family of four to eat at McDonald's. (Six burgers, four fries, tax). Could a traditional meal for a family of four really cost that much? On the other hand, I mentioned to my Dad last week, who's equally hooked on Hot n Ready from Little Caesars, that I couldn't get three meals from the grocery store for seven dollars. (Three slices for dinner, two for lunch, three for dinner, and some cola).

List things that don't interest you

I've always been accused of not liking animals. That's not entirely true, it'd be more accurate to say I'm indifferent to them. I've never wanted a traditional pet like a cat or dog, and the only animals I really find interesting are reptiles, and lions, tigers, and elephants. I especially like snakes and crocodilians. The only pet I've ever had was a python.

You made threatening letters to the UN! I enjoyed reading this: There was at least some diversity, which made for better reading, and it just flowed really well.
