I thought the 'grandfather' rule, like they did with the introduction of helmets, made sense. If visors/cages are mandatory across the board in major junior, it shouldn't be that drastic an implementation.

Oh yeah, I'll beat half of you to this: Of all the things I can hear to invoke patriotism, not making the list is that Chevy commercial with the John Mellencamp song.

I'd make the case that We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are really overdone. I see the 'arena anthem' theory, but it loses some mystique when it's played at every arena in North America.

Welcome back. Ottawa should change their name to the Dangerfields.....because they're little more than one-liners! </sour grapes>

I'm sorry, man.

Since Baron and his better half are getting my Toshiba 37HL57 when I head out west, I'm going to buy a new flat panel in a few months. I've got my eye on two Samsung models: LNT4065 or LNT4069. They have an absurdly high 15/20,000:1 contrast ratio, respectively. The 69 has a 120hz refresh rate, compared to the 65, which is 60. I asked about this the other day, and now that I have a basic understanding of it, is it really that much better, especially on that particular screen size? Is it going to make a difference by and large, or will it be comparable, to say, megapixels on a camera, in which there's little difference unless the image is really big?

Did you know wins are now worth 6 points, up until the trade deadline? How in the fuck else are the Leafs 'playoff-bound?' This is an argument I had with a co-worker.

Kamala and I briefly discussed Slush Puppies in CTDWAT about a month ago. I'd much rather eat a Puke Icee than any flavour of Slush Puppy. AvonMart in Fort Erie, Ontario still has them. It was up the road from the house I grew up in (1995-2004), and they still had them as recently as last month when I was there. Incidentally, that's the only place I've ever seen that actually had them.

Yeah, I mean, what's in it? Olives? RAISINS? The fuck?

I was going to post how worried and/or pissed I was over the Habs allowing the Sens to make it a one-goal game again (it was 4-1 at one point), but I'm more annoyed by the constant saying of "Who-ete". Pushing and shoving in front of the net was just referred to as 'rhubarb', which didn't help matters either.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released
CanadianGuitarist replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
I was just gonna post this; It's to be on The Fifth Estate tomorrow evening. -
Vanilla Coke is another soda a lot better in a soda fountain. The version actually produced by Coca Cola is good but it's just not the same. Definitely. Canadians on the board will know of Licks, one of which just opened in St. Catharines, featuring a soda fountain - I had a vanilla coke with whip cream along with my 200lb. burger and fries. Deelish.

Hells yes! That's old school. I didn't mind the chocolate Dr. Pepper. It's not something I'd buy often, but it was decent, and good for a lark.

What's the difference between response time and refresh rate? How much better is 120hz refresh rate compared to 60hz?

Recently, the 2004 Blue Jays. They surprised a lot of people in '03 and won 86 games, so there were high expectations. They started out the season getting swept by a Tigers team that was coming off a 119 loss season and were shit all season. They finished worse than Tampa Bay, I think that puts it all in perspective. I forgot all about that! Halladay's disaster in the season-opener; and this was after sweeping the defending World Series champs the year prior. I'm gonna think about my answer a little more, and I'll also rescind the Raiders comment. I got thinking about that at work this evening; As bad as they were the past two or three seasons, they did show some potential here and there (they could have been 5-11 in 2006), and they did go into the bye week 2-2. I'm certainly not gonna say I'm elated over either of those, but it's no comparison to the dick-punch that was the Patrick Roy trade. To answer the broadcaster question: How does Bob Cole still have a job? Especially with longtime CBCers Chris Cuthbert and Brian Williams having left for TSN to become bigger names. My question, on that note: Announcer bias: Juvenile, or good for the fans? -
Didn't seem to effect the Oilers too badly; 5-0 winners tonight in the battle of Alberta.

Yeah, I had never heard of anyone not liking the Bulls, either. Maybe, I don't know. Dec. 2, 1995 was the lowest point of my life as a Habs fan(the Roy incident), although January 2003 is a close second (for the first time in nearly 70 years, the Habs were in last of the league - and well on their way to missing the playoffs for three straight seasons, which also hadn't happened in nearly 70 years). As a Raiders fan though, re-ask me that question in a few years. I'll use a golf analogy, as that's what the discussion was, but I'll try and parlay it into a more universal question. As my dad and I learned watching golf yesterday, Jack Nickalus ran-up in 19 professional majors. He won 18. He played four majors a year for roughly 25 years, so 100 majors. If after 100 years, the Yankees had lost in the World Series 22 or 23 times, in addition to the 26 wins, is that an impressive feat, a detrimental feat, or kinda meaningless? The baseball analogy might not hold water entirely, but trying to put it into perspective. -
How much are you getting back in taxes this year
CanadianGuitarist replied to Youth N Asia's topic in General Chat
I'm invariably gonna owe again this year. Nearly 2000 owed last year, and that was for two jobs. This year I've had paystubs from five places, two of which were for pretty short periods of time. I have additional tax taken off each cheque just in case, and my charity donations are gonna be close to four figures, but I'm just hoping to break even. -
Three games in four nights, against a team that's had our number all year? Nah, doesn't make up for allowing 5 unanswered, but we're still hot, and, we'll score 85 against the Leafs on Thursday - all to be right again soon. I'll have to wear my Habs jersey to the meeting I'm attending in Hogtown Friday morning.

Brian Mullen, because that was my name for about 3 years, and he's from Hell's Kitchen, which was an awesome place name before the reality show. Kelly Gruber, Roberto Alomar, and Patrick Roy were always my favourites growing up, but none of those answers are any fun....maybe Gruber. -

Hmm. Good question. Definite current or future: Vijay Singh, Mike Weir, Mike Gartner, Dave Andreychuk, Grant Fuhr, Pat Lafontaine. Bubble: John Daly, Joe Nieuwendyk, Peter Bondra, Roy Halladay, Johan Santana, Frank Thomas, Alex Mogilny. Since many of my comments have involved golf(and I can, to some degree, see why people find that boring) - is there one sport you just can't get into or don't understand the following of (and likely never will). Czech is ineligible to answer this question. -
Oh yeah. I got confuzzled, but that HiaC was for a title shot if I recall, so he basically went right into world title contention and ignored it anyway. That is correct. The HiaC was for the title shot.

Matches that shouldn't have been on PPV
CanadianGuitarist replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
are you kidding me? i loved that match! So do I, but should a world champion against one half of a tag team be on PPV? Probably not. -
My bro's home from Newfoundland on Tuesday. My dad's gonna pick him up from the airport, and take him home. They're stopping by for supper on the way. How long has Tuesday been Shrove Tuesday? I've scrapped the chili I was gonna make in favour of pancakes. I, of course, planned this without a griddle. Anyone got any half-assed ideas on pancakes (frying pan?) I'm way too broke to go buy a skillet for the day.
