D-Lo Brown as champ was fuckin awesome though. His animated face when he beat HHH for it? Oh yeah, file that under "Things HHH wants you to forget".

VX is correct. What other sport instances, even boxing/mma etc., would potentially be worse? A hockey puck could be up there, as its fastest shot is about the same speed as the fastest baseball pitch - either way, I'd rather take a body part to the junk than an object. Here's one that's not a hypothetical but can become one: The FBR open just set the single-day golf attendance record at 170,800. Is that the highest North American attendance for a sporting event? For the second half of the question, the total for the week is expected to be about 600,000 cumulative. Should that count towards the record if it's over four days? It is considered an 'event', but should that make, say, the NBA playoffs an 'event'? By the way, check out the aforementioned FBR today, it's on CBS for about another hour(especially if you're not a golf fan). The 16th hole, from an entertainment aspect, is incredibly unique, and really really a sight to see. -

Only a matter of time before I brought this up: About a month ago, woman came into my Wal*Mart and asked for "A CD by something or someone called Hannah Montana". I gave her options, she picked one, pretty well at random, and asked me if it would be a good choice for her 14-year-old daughter. I don't recall exactly what I said in response, but it went something like "Fourteen years old? She'll like it - it's good". Co-worker overheard me and teased me for telling a customer I was a Hannah Montana fan. About an hour later, he tries to retell this story to another co-worker, but botches it. His version (and he's since come clean and told me he likes his fucked-up one better) goes the same, but instead of my above response, I told the customer "She'll like it - I do, but for a different reason than your daughter!" That is all. Edit: Wait, no it isn't. Bob Barron is the same gender as me, and roughly the same age. Why isn't his wealth of teeny-bopper knowledge weird? If my roomie or someone knew everything about High School Musical, I'd be really really confused. Double edit: Yeah, I probably would. -

This doesn't entirely answer the question, but hang on them as long as they aren't falling apart. Fenway and Wrigley are indeed treasures, and it's not like, say, the Pittsburgh Penguins clamouring for a new digs to get all the cash and benefits - obviously the Cubbies and Bosox are pretty healthy, financially. To keep things light: What's the most unusual concession food or drink you've ever had a live sporting event? -
Tsn had been saying that Dallas was ready to give Smith the full-time gig, and trade Turco for one of Tampa's Big Three.

Yeah, what the hell, I'm in.

The first one off the top of my head was "What if MJ doesn't retire in 1993?" How many Finals could they have won in a row? My history might be off as I'm not incredibly avid in basketball, but they could really have made it, what, eight? (91-93, 96-98 if my memory serves.) Two honourable mentions are "What if Eric Lindros signs with Quebec", and "What if Bobby Jones doesn't retire in his prime?". But there's a variable to each of those: There's no guarantee Lindros doesn't get hurt anyway, as he did with Philly and New York, and the major set-up in golf was much different in 1930, compared to 1973 or 2002, when Jack and Tiger each got halfway there. 1994 wasn't that bad, was it? Obviously the lockouts and OJ will be pretty strongly remembered, and that's an unquestionable black eye, but The Olympics weren't bad, the World Cup was pretty interesting, and The Canucks-Rangers final was fantastic. Know what? When I said the World Cup, the first thing I thought of was the US beating Colombia in the qualifiers. This led to a thought of Escobar being killed at home 10 days later. So yeah, I rescind on my 1994 defence. I'm gonna be a homer and say 1993 was the best year in sport, for two championship reasons. If you could see any one athlete, any sport, any era, play live and in person (not a specific performance), who would it be? My buddy is still kicking himself for not seeing Cal Ripken, who played in Toronto for a final time about a month after he got his licence. Right now, I'm going to say Wayne Gretzky, but in two or three years, Roger Federer might be my answer. -
What, he really did change his name? I thought it was just, ya know, spew from the 'new mods...for now' thread. And G-Unit isn't just a guy? Should I stop calling my grandfather G Unit? Maybe both my grandparents instead? Edit: Think it's hyphenated?

Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling
CanadianGuitarist replied to geniusMoment's topic in General Wrestling
I agree with this, but for different reasons. They're two very different books, and with that in mind, I think they're tied because of an apples/oranges type of comparison. Bret's book was fascinating for a variety of reasons: An incredibly unique upbringing, lots of road stories, his side of a lot of controversy, some sadness, some lightheartedness, and most of all, brutal honesty. He was even more of a blowhard than I expected, but it also wasn't as self-serving as I thought, either. He did admit fault a lot, does seem to show regret, doesn't seem to re-write history, etc. My stock in him as one of my all-time heroes has definitely dropped, but I don't regret my tattoo, either. The fact that I don't like what I read isn't the same as poorly written or disinteresting. Having seen Foley out-of-character many times (or even onscreen as himself, for that matter), his first book is very easy to follow and read. Foley tells most of his stories as if he were sitting in front of you, talking to you. It's at no point self-serving, he doesn't burn bridges (he did give a lot of credit to Flair, too), and he's honest as well. Very one-of-a-kind, humourous, and also written with a non-wrestling fan in mind. -
Heh, pulled pork.

Yes. I could not tell you who won it last year or who the MVP was. The scenic beauty of Hawaii makes for good television. The lack of interest is compounded by the Super Bowl being held prior, when football interest has peaked. Not that it'll happen, but it might be a different story if it were held before the Super Bowl instead. Kevin Stevens was riding the gravy train before his rehab stints in 1992 - that was my first instinct, even if I ultimately think Dwight Gooden or Darryl Strawberry were more negatively effected. Can anything other than a championship contribute to a dynasty? Should it? I say yes, but maybe on a different strata than say, the 98-00 Yankees or 91-93 Bulls. My first thought was the Detroit Red Wings 96-98. They won the Cup in the two latter years, and won an incredible 63 games in '96 before losing an insanely entertaining series to the eventual champion Avalanche. Would we forget a ball team who won 125 games? It's kind of a grey area, but I think there's definitely more, at least in theory, to a dynasty than just championships. I mean, what happens if the Giants win next weekend? -
- Bob Uecker, in any manner. - Bobby Heenan at Wrestlemania VI "Ya listen to me, ya go straight to the top! Don't listen to me, you're never heard from again!" - Funk and Foley winning the Tag Titles at XIV. - Flair's elbow at XX. - The chokeslam/RKO turnaround during Taker-Orton at XXI. And nearly anything involving a Hart, especially Bret's win at X, Owen's surprise partner at XI, and the entire submission match at XIII. Little is subjective, isn't it? Can Hart-Austin count as a moment? And Eddie-Chris at XX certainly should be on the list, at least as of 7 months ago.

Since I just referred to this thread in the Zoo thing in GC, I suppose an update's in order. We eventually compromised on my buying a day's worth of coffee each for two co-workers. Neither of them had any proof, but they both disagreed with me. One of them was from South Africa and the other was from Guatemala, both croc-native countries; that kinda trumped, what with my being Canadian. I left the job a month later, unrelated.

Since the last four or five posts have centred around various animal shit(hell, probably 4/10 of the posts so far - Tony Gwynn can't touch that), convince me helping guests is the lowest rung on the ladder. As indifferent as I am to animals, I'm enjoying this thread. I went to the Erie Zoo as a kid one summer. Was clearly bored until a camel (or maybe a llama) sneezed on my brother. Also went to Zoo Boo that fall. I don't remember what happened at it, but Joe Carter's homerun was that night also. For reasons similar to Milky's, I'm a little ashamed about how many times I went to Gatorland or similar places during my five trips to Florida in my life. Baron can confirm that, as the subject of animals on show and the correlation to Steve Irwin's death came up during a golf tournament we played in this past spring. I would have had no idea, until I found out more researching this thread. Maybe I'm just pissed because GatorLand never got back to me to answer the question. Hey - two baseball references and my lifetime's alligator history; what a post!

Baron was wrong. ^ Eventually realised who Phil Hartman was. -
I'm hardly happy about it, but this futility is pretty interesting.

I'd lean towards plasma(provided the lighting allows it)....hear me out. Higher contrast ratio and response time would be, it seems to me, ideal for video gaming. The screen-burn in thing shouldn't be unsolvable, simply don't leave the game idle with the television on. To be fair, I don't know a whole hell of a lot about DLP.

Read the JFJ thing when I woke up this morning; when was Fletcher announced? Interim or full-time?

I'm surprised the reviews were so poor for anything Samsung made.

That was supposed be Smolinski, so at least we're seeing an effory from Gainey. As I've said many times before, outside of the face-offs, they don't need anything but time to let their very young team mature a little bit. They're not quite a contender yet, but I think the missing piece of the puzzle is experience (which should be counted in the same vein as leadership).

I fucking hate my facial hair. Always too much, to the point it's difficult to maintain - EXCEPT when I tried to do the Droz last year; only spot it doesn't grow in thick. Sucks. Back on track: Based on his sig/avatar, would be perfect to answer my recent post in sports. (I can't think of anything about Cowbowy. Sorry - I did just finish a night shift if that helps.) -
Which is surprising, considering how good their salt & vinegar and regular are. Worst of all, their barbecue are a mockery. Sweet is not BBQ. Amateurs.

I don't follow basketabll all that much (so if I'm way off here, fire away), but I don't see the Spurs not winning this year as a letdown - the history books should have at least a footnote of how much Boston improved. The Spurs did what, three titles in eight years? I'm not going to think of them the same as the Atlanta Braves or anything. The Detroit Red Wings won three Stanley Cups (and lost a Final) in an eight-year period, and I'm not going to remember them for not beating Colorado in 1996 or, come to think of it, I can't recall who they didn't beat off the top of my head; I remember those teams for being a dynamic, exciting, offensive juggernaut. Save the last four words (as I don't think I've ever actually watched a Spurs game), what makes a less-than-championship season any different in Texas? Edit: Know what? I'm not correcting my misspelling. Let's see how bad a pun can be made of it. As good as this thread has been, it's won by anyone who can find a picture of Marge's "Harley Globetrotter" thing. -
Yes. 1992 is freakin awesome. I also agree with the second half of the statement, but CabbageBoy laid that out entirely. Last May, my answer would be, in order 92, 04, 01, 94, 98.

So, Kramer's restaurant opens up a block from your house. A fresh pizza dough is flattened and sitting in front of you, as are every herb, spice, topping and condiment you can imagine. Make your favourite pizza. Add any toppings you like, any sauces you want. If you'd like to take it one step further and add to the generic dough, go right ahead. Discuss. I'd use generic pizza sauce, but add lots of garlic salt and a couple squirts of BBQ sauce before I added my cheese. Depending on my mood, maybe some Frank's and cayenne. LOTS of sauce on a thin, thin, thin crust. Shredded very finely, a medium layer of asiago, mozza, cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheeses. Lots of pepperoni, ham, bacon pieces (never strips), Italian sausage and ground beef crumbled. Topped with salt, chiles, Bleu cheese. The thin crust/lots of sauce is what makes or breaks it for me.
