So, uh, what's going on in Ottawa? And Luongo with another shutout, his third straight, this time a 2-0 win over Columbus. His streak is close to two hundred minutes, which eclipsed the Canucks franchise record midway through the first period. And since TSN pointed it out (albeit awfully prematurely), I'll add it here: He's a little more than two games away from Brian Boucher's (honest) record for longest shutout streak of 332 minutes.

    COUGHCOUGHWEEK13*

It's like Kermit the Frog is calling the game. He just doesn't have an appealing voice for PBP. I wonder which three players Dallas will pick for the shootout. After all, three periods are over*, right? *yeah, yeah, I know. My point is about how much this 'period' nonsense is pissing me off.

    Digital Cameras

I adore my Canon P3 IS. It's not the most user-friendly, but if you've had, at least, some experience with digicams, there's nothing that will really leave you baffled. As for the manual settings, I think I eluded to this in my initial write-up; they're fun to play around with, but ultimately, there's enough versatility in the scene and shooting modes to have you covered.

Bertuzzi's return to Vancouver = 4-0 loss for the visitors. Vancouver (!) leads the Northwest now. FIVE points separate first-place Vancouver and last-place Edmonton in that division. Equally fascinating: Detroit (#1 seed in the West) lead the league in points, and second place Dallas complete an Ottawa sandwich. From there, Vancouver (#3) through to Anaheim (#8) all have 26 points. The aforementioned Northwest gap also represents places #3 through #14 in the conference. I don't mean to spew stats that can literally change in an hour, especially this early in the calender, but that's pretty freakin interesting. Please notice my restraint in teasing the Leafs. I watched the game tonight (as always) with my grandfather, a Leafs fan of some 60 years, who blamed the following for the Leafs' struggles (in this order:) Richard Peddie, JFJ, Stephen Harper, Darcy Tucker, Mats Sundin, Paul Maurice, Brian McCabe (I no longer represent St. Kitts), Nik Antropov. I've tried to put myself in the shoes of a Leafs fan, but can't do it. I don't think the sky is falling in Hogtown, but I do feel that everyone in that list will be out of a job by Canada Day....save the third guy, but that's for another folder.

    It's Always Worse In Winnipeg

It's not as bad as anywhere in Saskatchewan. But they have the Grey Cup. This thread reverts back to the Grey Cup losers.

They also can't record HD. That make them useless to me. Ditto. I've lamented about how spoiled HD has made me, but, well....yeah. Way better.

Tivos are coming to Canada....I didn't know the on-screen guide required internet/phone connection, and I certainly didn't realise there was a monthly subscription fee. Even before reading that, I was going to ask to be sold on what made the Tivo better than any other PVR.

I'm with Max, both in principle, and in the case he laid out. Watch the replay, Hartnell came from nearly centre ice to the boards in the time Alberts was kneeling. This wasn't "well, Hartnell might have been able to avoid him", he had more than enough time to avoid the hit altogether. I don't think any unavoidable hit should be avoided, and doubt anyone would. Nick Kypreos also offered, in a roundtable over Downie's hit on McAmmond, that oftentimes, the pace is so fast, you don't have time to analyse what's going to happen, you're essentially playing on instinct; I empathise with that. Having said that, there was more than enough of a window for Hartnell to avoid the hit, especially with the propensity for an injury given Albert's position at impact. Incidentally, Kypreos wasn't defending Downie, just painting a picture. I didn't want anyone to get the impression that Kypreos is an idiot or anything

Orville Redenbacher Natural Salt and Pepper popcorn

I'm intrigued by these Orville shakers, lukewarm off the heels of my buddy's claim of an old-school fast-food "bag and shake fries" line. I simply don't eat enough microwave popcorn.

    Upconverting DVD players

That sucks. I looked at the HD DVD add-on for quite a while today, and considered buying one, if nothing else, for the convenience of not having two different players in my entertainment centre. Mole, just to confirm my fear, you mean the 360 HD DVD player only upconverts through HDMI? What about those of us who didn't buy their 360's in the last, oh, six weeks? The HDDVD connects pretty interestingly, actually. It looks pretty similar to a modem, and actually connects to the USB above the ethernet port. I brought this up in the HDTV thread a few days ago, but I don't think I offer enough thanks here. Working in Wal*Mart, where product training is next to nothing, so I'm trying to get as many queries answered pro-actively. Thank you very, very much.

    Electric can openers

I once came up with a list of things that showed how lazy people as a whole were. Everyone thing on that list was eventually debunked (rightfully, as I recall). The only one I can remember is paper shredder. Edit: Those moving walkways at airports was a second.

    House Fire

Yes on Heatwave 98. I still have that as well, albeit the Pioneer release. The three I wrote were the first three that popped in my head, which is likely how I'd think in a burning house. There's absolutely something for everyone on that card, and I've especially seen non-wrestling fans impressed by Tanaka powerbombing Awesome over the ropes to the outside.

    NHL Thread - November 2007

JFJ is not the guy to build the team into a winner, either from the ground up, or from what he currently has. He's mortgaged away a fair amount of the future in draft picks as well, which doesn't bode well for him keeping his job, but think of it this way: Let's say I manage a grocery store. My staff is, by and large, mediocre at their jobs, or indifferent, or being paid too much. Not only that, even loyal customers are unhappy with the staff and the product. But if each customer leaves with two bags of groceries, and we're turning a profit, aren't I doing a good job, at least in the owner's eyes? I'm sure at least one member of MLSE or the Ontario Teacher's Pension Fund would see through my analogy; Regardless that seats will be full, television will always be knocking, and merchandise will sell, the fans want (and deserve) to see a winner. The point I'm stressing though, is that if 50 or 60 people own the team instead of one, the likelihood for indifference, as far as the on-ice product goes, would increase, especially if the team is still making money hand over fist. That being said, from a purely hockey standpoint, JFJ needs to go. Only once under his reign have they gone deep into the playoffs(2002), and only once did they, in my opinion, really make an effort on Deadline Day to make a run (2003). Sundin has never had someone to play with, except for Roberts. Maurice is doing the best he can, but it seems to me he juggles the lines waaaaaaaay too often. As I said previously, I don't think the sky is falling just yet. But if they're not at .500, by New Year's Day, clean house. Maurice isn't the problem, but a shake-up should be in order. And, that includes Sundin, who would be a prime candidate on trade deadline day with a cheap, one-year contract. (Max, after the Thornton trade, has the first right of rebuttal on that statement). And speaking of trades, Brian Burke has had the league approve a conference call, to take place sevvvvvvven minutes from now. The discussion will be allowing teams to pay part of the salary of a player being traded to help make the trade more lucrative. I never got the thought process behind that, outside of the traded player being a bad locker-room guy.
