Impact goes live for one night only on 10/23
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in TNA Wrestling
Excellent points. I was wondering when someone would make an intelligent reply rather than engaging in a pointless circlejerk. -
Re: Kama Yes, it was a UFC-based gimmick, with his name being a knockoff of Kimo. Re: Phineas Godwin Phineas was an absolutely horrible wrestler. HOG was acceptable, but Phineas was just terrible. Check out his appearance in the 1997 Rumble. When he he has Crush in the corner, he throws, without a doubt, the worst punches you have ever seen in the major leagues. Re: Disco Inferno The epitome of average. There is nothing about Disco that stands out in any way. Road the coattails of Kevin Nash in WCW before getting in tight with Vince Russo; talk about the blind leading the blank. And who told Inferno he knew how to book?

Keller clip about Impact It's a 10 minute clip of Keller's take on Impact. I usually don't agree with Keller, but he makes some really good points here about the booking of Impact. -

UFC 91: Couture vs Lesnar
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to BruteSquad_BRODY's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
There are so many ways this fight can go which is what makes it exciting. I still think Brock is too strong and too powerful for Randy, even with Randy's experience. I think that, as well as Randy's age and down time, is going to make for a very long night for Randy. Of course, that just means something crazy is going to happen, like Randy KO'ing Brock with one punch. -

Well, if TNA don't care about little things like gaps in logic, attention to detail, and plot holes, I guess I can't expect their fans to care about them, either. -
Anderson Silva is officially the coolest man alive. If he could only speak English well, then he would be the superstar he should be.

WWE To Now Exclusively Call Their Talent "Entertainers"
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
Because wrestling has done a great job of regulating itself? Wrestling = WWE as far as the public at large, and government, is concerned, and WWE have, for the most part, done such a terrible job of regulating themselves in the eyes of those in power that they've felt the need to step in and 'clean things up'. Yes, it sucks for the small time Indy groups, but how about blaming WWE for this one? Maybe if they weren't busy trying to cover their own asses and trying to find ways to allow their wrest...entertainers to find dubious ways to legally use illegal drugs, commissions and the like would leave wrestling alone. Exactly. Wrestling is unique, and trying to make it more like other forms of entertainment just makes it seem like low-rent copy of those forms of entertainment. Wrestling should be it's own creature. -

To say TNA dropped the ball here would be putting it lightly. The first thing that struck was how bush league the presentation of the arena was. They had around 1,000 fans in the building but from TV you'd have thought there were only a couple of hundred. How do you manage that? Then you've got the first thing people see in terms of action, and TNA give us Velvet Sky vs. Christy Hemme. Now, visually, it's obvious why they went with the Beautiful People; their entrance, I'm sure, looked jaw dropping in HD. The problem with making this the first impression some people have of TNA, assuming their marketing campaign worked, is that it makes TNA look firmly like the minor leagues. The match was a terribly amateurish affair that only looks worse when compared with what WWE do. Booker T's accent has got to go. It just looks like a poor rip-off of what he did as King Booker, and it makes he and Sharmell look like a bad SNL skit, which isn't how you want a supposed main event act to come across. The deal with Christian was good in theory, but why would Christian bury the 'Legends Title' before claiming to want to it so he could mess with Booker? The idea that Christian winning the belt would mess with Booker is sound. But burying the belt beforehand? And why would Booker want Christian in the Main Event Mafia (an e-fed level name if ever there was one)? Yeah, it'll upset Christian, but all he's going to get is a team member that is going to handicap the group. Won't the rest of the MEM have something to say about this? What more can be said about the X-Division title match? It was over before you could blink. As for the main event, should anyone care about the babyfaces? Samoa Joe whines like a bitch, AJ acts like a punk to the legend (Sting) that people like, they get outsmarted all the time, they rarely win, and they get beaten up and laid out on a regular basis. How could anyone possibly get behind such an incompetent group of babyfaces? Granted, the idea is to make the babyfaces in need of a knight in shining armor to save the day (Jeff Jarrett), but any knight coming to the rescue of these geeks is going to look like a bigger geek. And how can Foley be a major shareholder in a private company? At least explain that part of it by saying he was put on the TNA board or something. Also: -

Never heard that one before. I find it doubtful they would have changed the Raw title so soon after Hunter had just won it, because it would have meant the Raw title had had two short-term reigns in a row, and HBK winning the title would have only led to a third one. -

*The Motor City Machineguns defeated TNA X-Division champ Sheik Abdul Bashir & Sonjay Dutt. Kurt Angle hits the ring and lays out Dutt and the Guns. He grabs the ring mic and says he's going to take out every talent in the company until he gets his hands on Jeff Jarrett inside a ring again. Until then, the blood is on Jarrett's hands. *Jeremy Borash interviews Kevin Nash, who reminds everyone of the old saying, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Nash said that 10 months ago, Joe disrespected Nash and Scott Hall and that Nash just bided his time. He warned everyone that the old Kevin Nash is back and he's all about Nash now. *TNA champion Sting came out and said that at Bound for Glory, Samoa Joe was the better man but because of his disrespect, now Sting is the World champion. Sting said that after the match, some of the wrestlers shook his hands, but some, like AJ Styles, didn't. Styles comes out and says that if Sting would actually listen, then perhaps he'd earn some respect. Styles said that he's on the road making money while Sting sits at home spending his. Sting says that AJ once told him he didn't like the way his father raised him and if he keeps on making decisions like the ones he has, AJ will turn into his father. Styles slaps Sting, who says he will let that one slide. Styles tells him not to and slaps him again. They brawl until security breaks it up. *Booker T defeated LAX's Hernandez. *Kurt Angle came out and attacked Dave Penzer (yay!), then began laying out security and referees. Jeff Jarrett came out and told Angle that he had him at Bound for Glory and Jeff isn't going to do it again. He tells Angle to let it go. Angle asks Jarrett if he remembers the time Angle visited his home when Jeff was signing Angle and wonders if Jeff's daughters need a visit from "Uncle Kurt." Jarrett loses it and tries to go after Angle, who mocks him and walks off. *Mick Foley comes out to address the Impact Zone. He says that for the last 23 years, he's been a junkie - a roller coaster junkie. He says when he was on the road, he would always look for roller coasters to try and ride the next coaster. Foley says that life in wrestling is like coasters and the last few weeks have been one of the greatest rides of his life. He says he wishes it would have lasted a little longer. Jay Lethal, Consequences Creed and AJ Styles come out to congratulate him. As Foley leaves, Jeff Jarrett meets him on the stage, shakes his hand and they leave together. *Jim Cornette calls from Las Vegas and announces that since Angle is out of control and looking for a fight, he can wrestle Matt Morgan tonight on Impact. *Roxxi defeated Raisha Saeid but was laid out by Awesome Kong after the match. *Kevin Nash defeated Consequences Creed. Nash takes the mic and says the "New Generation" of guys like Creed, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles are either the most arrogant or the most stupid people he's ever met. Nash turns to the crowd and tells them that he is the smartest man in the wrestling business and it must kill the fans to know their wives all want him. He said the fans may not like him, but they better learn to love him because he's the best thing going today. *Backstage, Jeremy Borash catches Mick Foley coming out of Jeff Jarrett's office and they tease that he and Jeff may have come to a new deal to keep Foley in TNA. *Kurt Angle defeated Matt Morgan. He continues to beat down Morgan until Abyss hits the ring. Angle attacks him and busts Abyss open, putting him in the ankle lock. *Jeremy Borash catches Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley leaving together in a car for Las Vegas. Foley announces he's going to make a declaration next week that will change the wrestling world. Xplosion: *Jay Lethal & Petey Williams defeated The Rock N' Rave Infection.

Ongoing Impact spoilers for this Thursday

Yes, the storyline is that BFG would be Foley's only major appearance and tonight was to be his farewell to TNA after six long weeks of service. -
I like Joe, but that was very stupid.

Lance Cade gets future endeavor'd

Which botch? They did the spot, and it's one I really hate, where Shawn superkicks a guy who then staggers into the pedigree. Only Cade bumped for the superkick and then had to be reminded, loudly, by Hunter, to get back up to take the pedigree. -

I wonder if his botch up in the DX reunion tag match had anything to do with it? Once the Jericho/HBK feud quietened down, there was nothing for him to do because he was never given any real role to play other than being a third wheel. -
UFC 89: Bisping vs Leben
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I have a bad feeling that Bisping/Leben is going to be very dull, and that Bisping is going to be so concerned about losing in the first UFC event he's headlining in his home country that he's going to turn the fight into a defensive stalemate. I have similar concerns over the Jardine/Vera fight, in that I expect Vera to turn things into his now usual borefest, so I'm hoping for Jardine to knock him out cold. Looking forward to the rest of the card too, and it should be really good. -
A credible source then. K. Allen Frey offered some really sweet deals during his tenure, but no way is he offering a deal like that.

The main event finish wasn't bad in itself but the problem I had with it is that it's the exact same finish we've seen in virtually every TNA PPV main event over the last three years, where there's a run-in, a distraction and a foreign object gets used. In the last three years, you could count on one hand when that hasn't been the finish to a PPV main event, and that's a terrible track record for a national promotion. When the main events always finish the same, often for no real reason other than it's just how TNA seem to think that's how it's meant to be done, when the finish is the key part of an ongoing storyline, even if it makes sense, it just comes across as repetitive and overdone and the majority of people just shake their heads. Not only that, but it was the same finish for the top two matches, where you had a distraction/ref-bump, someone ran in to interfere and the loser got hit with something. While you can argue that those finishes were needed for where the storyline is going, at the very least they could have put the three-way between the Angle match and the main event so we're not getting the same finish in consecutive matches. Plus, why would Kevin Nash grab the bat from Sting in the first place, when Sting was going to use it on Joe anyway? Nash wants Joe to lose and with Sting about to deliver the coup de grace to gain victory, why do something that might conceivably spoil that? Why not wait for Sting to hit Joe and then interfere if need be? Why wasn't the Abyss fire spot the finish? If you're going to do something insane and crazy, why have it as a transition spot?
