    UFC 76

A fantastic PPV. Even the 'worst' fight of the night was entertaining in its own way. I thought Sanchez won his fight, so I'm a little disappointed in the decision, with the 30-27 score for Fitch looking crazy. Griffin-Rua was incredible, and I think is going to be a heavy favorite to win FOTY. As for the main event, who could have seen Keith Jardine outstriking Chuck Liddell? I had it 29-28 Jardine, and I'm not sure how Liddell could have won either rounds two or three. This is easily the best PPV of the year from UFC, and I think is also one of their best ever.

    Cena's title reign

Cena is going to be super over even after he does drop the title. The people who hate him don't hate him specifically because he has the title, but because he's a guy they hate being portrayed as the super babyface. Once Cena loses the title, the people who hate him are still going to hate him. Only instead of wanting him to lose the title, they'll go to either not wanting him to win the title or not wanting him to win the match or feud he's currently in. The emotion Cena generates is here to stay, even when his title reign ends.

    UFC Fight Night 11

This needs to be found and linked to as soon as possible. Ratings, via Alvarez: It was a great night of action, though the main event didn't end things on a high note. I really enjoyed the Quarry/Sell and Leben/Martin fights, especially because the fighters I wanted to win did so. And is the top of Pete Sell's head meant to look like it's expanding? It looked very strange.

Examples of a Wrestler TRULY Being Put Over

A point made regarding why Warrior didn't get as expected was that he did beat Hogan, with the possibility that some people resented him because of it, and he might have done better had they transitioned the belt to Warrior via some heel. Of course, the fact would still remain that Warrior didn't have a great list of heels to take on after winning the title; his big programs were against Hennig, who nobody took seriously in the main event, and Rick Rude, who had already feuded with Warrior the year before with Warrior coming out on top

The rating is finally in, and it's not a good one. Raw did a 3.3 with hours of 3.2 and 3.5.

They'll be in the prison, but it'll be the people watching the match who'll be serving the sentence. As this leaves Undertaker without an opponent, maybe they'll do something tonight in order to set up a rematch with Mark Henry.

The OaO Raw Thread - 9/17/2007

Rhetorical question I know, but I wonder if, when Hunter's PPV matches lack any sustained heat, they think it might just be down to segments like this. Hunter completely lacks the emotional connection with the audience to where they'll overlook stuff like this and still get into his major matches. No one cared about Hunter's PPV match with Carlito because he was never treated as any kind of a threat and they had no reason to want to see him beaten because of that. Their cage match next week will get a reaction because it's on Raw and people are always into the big stars on live TV, but if the match was on PPV, you'd be able to hear crickets chirp once the bell rang.

ROH cutting bloody angle off the PPV There are a few pictures of the angle and it looks wild. Jimmy is wearing a white suit and, well, it wasn't white anymore when the backstage photo was taken.

    OAO Unforgiven Thread

The PPV was pretty bad, though whether it was the worst of the year is down to personal preference. There was nothing of note at all on the show that would get people to watch it again. The SD title match was bad, but without Rey in there it would have been worse. Batista winning the title was a minor surprise, though another loss in a title match might not have done Batista any good. I don't know if the Cena/Orton match was the worst title match of his career, but it was bad, and Cena looked liked he had regressed back to being a rookie. His offense looked bad, and his punches were horrible. I thought their match last month was really good, near the **** level, and for them to come back with a match that was barely above a DUD is amazing. I can only assume that with it being a B show and the match having a DQ finish, the effort wasn't there when putting the match together. The highlight was easily the crowd being heavily into Orton, especially when the angle to set up the match was designed to get Cena over into a sympathetic babyface. Undertaker/Mark Henry wasn't much better, and it was really telling that the crowd popped big for Undertaker's entrance and then sat on their hands for the match, only reacting for the finish.

    The What If Topic...

This would have happened over a year after Nash and Hall left, so the NWO and Hogan turn would have still happened, and DX would have been born, but they'd have only existed for a few months.

    OAO 9/13 Impact Thread

The wrestlers all start on the floor and have to fight to get into the ring. It sounds cool on paper, but in practice makes for a terrible match because you're constantly getting instances where wrestlers can very obviously get in the ring but because they're not supposed to, they have to stand around with their thumb up their ass trying to figure out a way to not get in the ring even though nobody is around to stop them. And because it was requested, though it's strictly a one-off, here's the latest Bryan and Vinny Show that reviews this edition of Impact, as well as ECW and Smackdown. The Impact review comes up first, so if that's all you're interested in, you can turn off after that, though I recommend listening to the whole show because it's great. OAO Unforgiven Thread

WWE Championship Match John Cena vs. Randy Orton The feud has to continue, which means it's unlikely to be another conclusive finish, so I'm going for Orton by DQ when Cena goes nuts over what happened to his father and won't stop beating on Orton. World Heavyweight Championship Match The Great Khali vs. Batista vs. Rey Mysterio As I've said from the beginning, I think Rey was put in here to eat the fall so the Khali/Batista feud can keep on staggering along. Undertaker vs. Mark Henry This is a tough one... Triple H vs. Carlito Another one that's hard to pick... CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke (ECW Championship Match) Punk retains so he can drop it to Morrison. Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix (Women's Championship Match) Don't care. World Tag Team Championship Match Cade and Murdoch vs. Londrick Champions retain. WWE Tag Team Championship Match MVP and Matt Hardy vs. Deuce and Domino Champions retain to keep the odd couple storyline going.

    The What If Topic...

WCW wouldn't draw in England again, and they'd probably lose what TV they had over there. The rest of their European business would have suffered as well. As for what it would have done for domestic business, that would probably depend on what kind of media reaction it got and how WCW handled it. Most likely a lot of short term damage, probably for a year so, but I think things would have recovered somewhat after about 18 months.
