    Jeff Jarrett was the coolest

If any other top heel got new music and came out to a deafening silence, I wonder how long it would take for people to start whispering that he's failing in the role.

    WCW SuperBrawl III

I don't remember anything about a WCW/SMW agreement outside of this match. Care to enlighten us? I love inept WCW stories. Paraphrased from the 2000 Cornette shoot: Late in 1992 Bill Watts contacted Cornette about forming a working agreement with SMW. The idea being to send SMW guys to WCW to get experience, put them over some lower end guys to build them up and eventually put over a big WCW name. The first part of this agreement was the deal with WCW bringing in the Rock and Roll Express, putting them on TV, and then Cornette and the Bodies would 'invade' WCW Saturday Night and confront Watts over doing this because the RnR's were part of SMW. Cornette confronts Watts and they do this great angle with Cornette firing off a number of strong remarks knocking WCW and burying Jim Herd and Watts firing back by telling Cornette not to stick his finger in his chest because Watt's doesn't know where it's been and he doesn't want to have to get a blood test. Anyway, when this fantastic segment airs, Cornette's remarks are edited; when Cornette speaks, the audio goes dead. Watts was told that it was because of a directional microphone. However, when Cornette and Watts meet up about a week or so before Superbrawl, Cornette assures Watts that the explanation he was give was bullshit and the remarks were deliberately edited off. In response, Watts, who correctly figures he's not long for the company, puts their agreement in writing so that WCW is legally obliged to pay Cornette for use of SMW footage and everything else; before this, it had been strictly a handshake deal as both men trusted the other and didn't feel the need to put it in writing. At SuperBrawl, by which time Watts was fired, Cornette confronts Eric Bischoff over the editing, and Bischoff hems and haws and says that a committee of them felt that the comments were too strong and inappropriate. Cornette responds by pointing out that everything he said had been cleared with Watts ("I'd already communicated with the horses head, I didn't feel the need to communicate with his ass").

    WCW SuperBrawl III

The Bodies/Express match was added because it was the culmination of the short lived working agreement between WCW and SMW. Which is another WCW-esque story in itself with how that thing went down.

The big surprised that turned out to be the Goldberg turn was supposed to be the Mandalay Entertainment(?) buying WCW for $600m.

He bought out Stampede but never kept up the payments to Stu Hart and the promotion reopened after a couple of years.

Probably that fact that Manu is garbage. And doesn't have the size to warrant, in their minds, being given another chance. Can Sim Snuka be far behind?

    The Old School questions thread

That's what brings me to my question. Why so much bitterness towards Vince for going national and stealing up talent? It's not like Jim Crockett wasn't doing the exact same thing, he just operated (for a time) within the confines of the NWA. I mean he brought all the talent to his promotions and had a death-grip on the NWA title. I mean I watch WWE 24/7. If you watch those studio shows all of the top regional stars (that hadn't gone to WWF) were on Crockett's TV shows! And his titles had more prestige than any other local territories titles. And he started buying up promotions to go national too! And when he started doing stuff like Starrcade, didn't that really poke a huge hole in the territory system and really mess it up for a lot of regional fans? Becuase now they see all the top stars on Starrcade and the regional feel of pro-wrestling is gone with that show too. It wasn't just the WWF that was projecting that national image and forgetting about the territory system. Right? So why does everyone these days act like Vince was such a scumbag? Crockett did it too, just within the confines of the NWA. He was still an NWA member but he had all the top talent and the NWA title. McMahon and Crockett were not doing the exact same thing. What McMahon did that had people upset wasn't that he signed up the top regional stars, but that he would have them walk out of the territory with no notice and leave the various promoters in the lurch. Crockett signed up regional talent too, but he didn't have them walk out with no notice leaving a bunch of no-shows in their wake Crockett did buy up promotions, but McMahon never did. He just cherry picked the talent he wanted. Starrcadde was like JCP in that, at first, they were big regional deals, and stayed pretty much entirely in the Mid-Atlantic region, with the occasional venture to a neighboring state. Starrcade, and JCP in general, didn't try to go national until 1987, by which time the regional territories were dying out at a fast rate. There wasn't much of a territorial system to poke a hole in at that point. Both Vince and JCP tried to go national, but there really isn't a comparison in how the two went about it.

Wouldn't this have been about the time that the Rocker's handed in their notices only for Shawn to go behind Marty's back and retract his resignation? That would explain it.

    Sonjay Dutt Released

Ridiculously optimistic, but maybe TNA have realized how badly the current X-Division roster has been treated over the past couple of years and are going get rid of the ones who have been abused the most and bringing in new faces to so they can try and restore the division to its former glory.

A rhetorical question I know, but why get so upset over such a small percentage of your audience finding out about storylines in advance? Chances are pretty good that if the storyline in question is good enough, they'll tune in to watch it anyway.

    Does/should WWE care about TNA?

The problem is that when TNA promote what their wrestlers have done in WWE they do so in such a way that it makes them look like their glory days are behind them. It comes off so much like, "Hey, look at how good we used to be". They almost always present it in such a way that makes TNA look like the place wrestlers go when they can't run in the big league anymore. They almost never compare a wrestlers TNA accomplishments to their TNA accomplishments, and when they do, they invariably make what happened in WWE look like the bigger deal. There is NO debate over VKM calling out WWE every week. It was a stupid idea that just made TNA look like the kids at the children's table trying to get the attention of the adults. It's also a bad idea to compare it to what DX did, because when they did that, WWF and WCW were on equal footing in a major wrestling war. If TNA were in any way close to WWE then yes, you could make that argument. But they weren't close to WWE. They never have been and, in all likelihood, never will be. The whole mess came off like a desperate cry for attention.

    WWE No Way Out 2009

I did not like Edge getting put in the ME and walking out as champion. To me, it came off as a rehash of an already stale angle, and the fact that Edge went from being the transitional heel champion of one brand to being the transitional heel champion of the other just highlights how stale the main scene in WWE really is and how terrible the company is when it comes to elevating talent. I like Edge. A lot. He's a great performer and one of the best all-round talents in the company. But I'm tired of him in the role of heel champion, transitional or otherwise. I want something more, something different involving Edge.
