Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

You mean he wasn't embarrassed by the comical drugs policy WCW had under his watch?

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

Not that I'm in agreement with the other poster, but I think it has been stated that the TODs are not exact because of outside circumstances. I don't think the margin of error is great enough to cause any serious doubt as to the sequence of events.

    Brock Lesnar

Either one or both men slipped up on the move or Holly sandbagged him. Given the odds, and Holly's rep, I know which I'd place my money on.

    Let's talk about John Cena.

I don't really like Cena, either to watch him wrestle or hear him talk. His in-ring is fine, but he does nothing that grabs my attention. His interviews, while delivered very well, are why the mute button was invented because the material is just god awful. Instead of something intense or simplistic that still gets the message across, he gets material filled with lame jokes and bad attempts at comedy than can only come from third rate sitcom writer who likes fart gags and gay 'jokes'. If people like him, great, and there are obviously a lot of them, but for me, Cena does nothing at all.

Any guesses on what segments, if any, dragged things down?

    Brock Lesnar

Remember you're dealing with a guy who likes to play the tough man with people he thinks he can bully. By sandbagging midway through the move, when Lesnar doesn't know it's going to happen, it doesn't give Lesnar chance to compensate and it's more likely to make him look like he's sloppy. If Holly had sandbagged Lesnar at the beginning, Lesnar would have known something was going on and could have tried something else.

Perfect time to make CM Punk champion?

If they're intent on Nitro someday being a star, they're going to try him out in that position in ECW, and that means lengthy title reign. If they're serious about Nitro, then the soonest he'll drop the belt is maybe Summerslam.

    Brock Lesnar

I still don't fathom that. He had Holly up for the powerbomb. If Holly sandbagged, Lesnar wouldn't have been able to get him up in that position in the first place. He had him up, then he sort of hesitated, and then he dropped him on his head. I'm not trying to blame Lesnar or anything for it, but I don't see the sandbagging thing. Watch the move again. Halfway through the move, when Lesnar is bringing Holly up and Holly is just about parallel to the mat. Holly stiffens up and goes deadweight.

    WWE rebounding from WM 23

If it was so bland, why did fans go ever more nuts each time Shawn and Cena teased hitting each other with their finishers? And why did the fans explode when Shawn finally did hit Cena with the superkick? They sure got excited over something 'bland'. Because it was tried and trued.... they couldnt do something that was fresh and new? Yeah it got a pop.... but c'mon..... it was really stale and predictable... You're complaining about the fact that something worked like it was supposed to and had the crowd going crazy?

It would have helped had the people in charge not had a size bias, but as far as the fans were concerned, they weren't too small. In that, aspect, yes, their size worked against them, but as far as getting over with the fans, it didn't. Which kind of puts a hole in the belief their size would prevent them from getting over,

    Why isn't TNA getting it?

The problems with TNA have always been with the booking rather rather then the length of their TV shows. Unless that changes, then it doesn't matter how long Impact is. TNA were at their best when they focused on great matches that were backed up with simple and easy-to-understand storylines. They should stop trying to be funny with all the lame skits, because they rarely work and serve only to highlight how amateurish they are. TNA need to focus on what they can do well, the wrestling, and pull back on what they can't do well, the SE soap opera. It's not rocket science.

    Brock Lesnar

The botch at WM was more down to Lesnar being nervous/tired rather than him being a sloppy worker. The deal with Holly was all Holly's fault because he tried to sandbag Lesnar for some stupid reason. I think Lesnar gets more flack than he deserves, primarily because he did walk away from wrestling and wrestling fans are quick to turn on someone who does that. Lesnar certainly deserves to get knocked for not 'making someone' on the way out, but with the way some people rip into the guy, you'd think he'd committed mass murder. Lesnar was a pretty good big man worker. He wasn't the most charismatic of performers, but he definitely developed some decent charisma around 2003/4 mark. His offense was solid to great, and he could definitely play the part of the monster. I think Lesnar gets underrated more than he gets overrated, but he's far from this poor, sloppy worker than some make him out to be.

    ECW/Smackdown spoilers

ECW is being taped first. The show is opening with Johnny Nitro vs. Tommy Dreamer. Nitro won the match with his new finisher. Next up is CM Punk vs. Kevin Thorn. Punk won with the Oklahoma Roll. After the match, Nitro came out and teased that he was going to get in the ring but did not. That's all for ECW. Smackdown is about to begin. Friday's Smackdown opened with MVP vs. Matt Hardy. Hardy won a non-title match with the Twist Of Fate. Backstage, Edge told Teddy Long that he didn't want to compete tonight. Long told him that was OK with that but he would have a guest for him tonight in this week's episode of The Cutting Edge. Chris Masters beat Jimmy Wang Yang with The Masterlock. After The Great Khali came out and beat up Yang and issued an open challenge for the Bash. The Major Brothers beat local guys, Mike Foxx and Jeremy Young. Next up is Ric Flair vs. Finlay. Finlay beat Flair when Finlay hit Flair with the shilleleigh. He then made Flair tap to the Figure Four. Victoria then interrupted Torrie Wilson's photo shoot and attacked her. Khali was in the back and then attacked a stage hand after asking him if he wanted to accept his challenge at the Bash. Chuck Palumbo beat Kenny Dykstra in a boring match that went way too long. Deuce was wrestling Eugene when Khali came out and attacked them both. They asked if there was anyone brave enough to accept his challenge when Batista cam e out. They stared each other down and them Khali left. It's time now for four The Cutting Edge. They must have handed out "Edge Sucks" signs because everyone in the front row has them and they are all the same. The guest on the segment is Kane. Edge sucked up to him, stating all of Kane's accomplishments. Then, he mentioned his own. Edge tried to end the interview there but Kane attacked him. Edge then said he would never step foot in the ring with Kane again. Teddy Long came out and said that at The Bash it will be Edge vs. Kane for the title. That's it from Smackdown!

    Why isn't TNA getting it?

The booking team is Jarrett, Russo and Mantell. Cornette voices his opinion on his own segments and I believe helps with their production as well, but he has no real influence over booking as a whole.

    Why isn't TNA getting it?

The 'Russo is just a consultant' deal wasn't true, and in fact was considered such a joke that Mantell started ribbing Russo by referring to him as 'Consultant'. The booking in TNA is, or was as of a month or so ago, handled by Jarrett, Russo and Mantell, with Jarrett making the final call on things but with all three having a say. Impact was being mostly written by Russo. I don't know how much of that has changed since Jill Jarrett died, because it's impossible to say how Jeff's attitude has changed. He might have taken a more hands-on approach and steered things more directly, or he might be content to just side with Russo or Mantell depending on how they argue their point.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

Except the 'old geezers' based their belief on the fact the Eddie and company were 'too small', which had nothing to do with why those three, at least, didn't 'make it'. With Eddie, WWE were happy with his performance but he couldn't take handle the pressure at that time in his life. Jericho was never given a chance to 'make it'; he was only ever given the Unified title so he could lose it to HHH. Rey was mishandled from day one of his 'run at the top', and was always going to be, because of the size bias in WWE, regardless of how well he kept getting over with the fans. Yes, those three didn't 'make it', but in the case of Jericho and Rey, WWE were never going to allow them to because it either didn't fit their plans or because of size bias. Had Jericho and Rey actually been given the ball and not been handled the way they were, we might have found out for sure if they had had what it takes to be accepted on top by the fans.
