I didn't really care about what the guys did 30 years ago either. I just hate how the guy who actually volunteered and went got shat upon by the MSM (via SBVT coverage) for his record (which wasn't perfect, but it seems like he did what he thought was right in protesting the war--and who *can* protest a war if not someone who served in it?) while the chickenhawk, because of Rather & Co's ineptitude, got a free pass. The Vietnam question didn't matter to me, but it probably mattered to a lot of voters. And after Rather was cowed by the administration no other organization was going to touch Bush's record with a ten foot pole.
Kerry was a rich ass kid who probably could have used family connections to get out of serving, but he didn't.
Also, I think Kerry trying to use his service as a tool to get elected was stupid and kind of tacky.
