Okay, its an acoustic so you are cool. You can actually strum cords and finger pick and such. Although you are about to experience the PAIN~! of learning Acoustic. Its easiest to learn on a electric and honestly you can do almost everything that you can do on a electric that you can do on a acoustic. It is hard though. I would suggest a few lessons to get you started or such. If it was a classical guitar though, you might as well for get being self taught like AoO said.
