Good point. Spotty McSpot matches do draw the casual wrestling fans. I saw it tonight, a bunch of casual wrestling fans were gushing over the 6man X-division match. Was it actually a good match? Not really. But a lot of casual fans base their opinion of a match on how many big spots are used. So TNA can provide that type of wrestling better than the WWE, which becomes something they can use to draw casual, WWE fans.

Ever Wonder How Scripted The Shows Are Now?
World's Worst Man replied to The Niggardly King's topic in The WWE Folder
Yea that's true. But 30% paid? Three weeks of notice doesn't excuse 30% paid I don't think. Guess it's not totally awful though. -
Don't forget Allison Danger. Oh yes, oh yes.

Ever Wonder How Scripted The Shows Are Now?

What's up with 30%, 44% w/ Comps thing? If that was the gate, WWE is doing worse than I thought for live attendance. -
Clairvoyance? Bubba did the Dusty elbow, hehe.

The story was Joe and Daniels hate each other, Aires is a star in the making, Sonjay is teh comedy, AJ is the champ, and Alex is trying to find a personality. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Joe-Daniels stuff was about the only story they actually played up in the ring
-
Oh, and yes, Joe is pretty great. That's why he's the best worker in the US right now

Entertaining match. But like, it was pretty much spot-fu. There wasn't a whole lot of storytelling going on there. Fun match to watch though.

The real question should be, who can support their claims that a match is ***** vs. those who can't. Calling Benoit vs. Angle at RR '03 ***** is just so laughable because the match had some rather obvious and significant flaws. That should preclude it from being even CLOSE to *****, yet there are those who claim it to be that high. Lets say you objectively compare 2 matches, and based on all tangible evidence, one is vastly superior to the other. Then you give the inferior match the full monty. How does one justify that? And what does the superior match become? **********? When talking wrestling (and almost anything for that matter) it's not about which opinion is truly right or wrong, it's about who presents the strongest and most intelligent argument.

Someone please post a ton of Lillian screencaps from tonight. Please.

HTQ's Survey: If You Were A Wrestler...
World's Worst Man commented on a blog entry in Straight Shooting
Prefer to be given only finish and call everything else in the ring? Lay the entire match out beforehand? Nothing other than the finish and any imporant spots gets planned beforehand. Everything else is called on the fly. Like to have your promo's scripted? Or just be given a couple of bullet points, and wing the rest? I wouldn't talk Blade often? Only on occasion? Would you rather never blade at all? Rarely if ever. Only if I was in there brawling with a guy who was as big/tough as me. What style would you like to wrestle? Why would you prefer to employ that particular style over others? I'd probably wrestle like a Terry Gordy or Steve Williams. I'm a similar build to those guys, but I wouldn't want to be a pure brawler like Hansen. So I guess that would be kind of like a hybrid American-Japanese style. A bit of brawling, a bit of matwork, a few suplexes/powerbombs. Refuse to take certain moves? Only take them when working with certain wrestlers? Wouldn't refuse to take any specific moves, just probably wouldn't be able to take sick neck bumps like some smaller guys. Are there any match types you'd like to wrestle in a lot? Some match types you'd rather never have to work in? I wouldn't work deathmatches, that's for sure. Any other "traditional" matches are fine. What style of normal match would you like to do the most? Would you prefer to sell or to dominate? Would you like to do long matches? I'd probably be the guy who beats up on the smaller face, then the face has to make a big comeback. Not quite Vader-Sting style (because I wouldnt be as heavy as Vader) but think Hansen/Gordy vs. Kawada/Tenryu. In that kind of match, going long doesn't work in singles, but it does in tags. So the length would just depend on that. Would you like to have a manager or valet to work spots with or would you rather just do it all yourself? I wouldn't mind a hot chick valet...No one who would get involved in the match though. Not a fan of outside interference. Are there some types of angles that you would refuse to do? Some types of angles that you'd love to do? Depends. If it was WWE-creative, there'd be plenty of crap I wouldn't do. If it was a good booking team, then I doubt they'd come with anything so moronic. What promotion would you like to work for the most? What promotion would you hate to work for? I'd probably like to work for NOAH. Tour schedule is nice, the pay isn't bad and their wrestling product is great. They're probably the most stable company in Japan. I'd hate to work for WWE, just because I know what a classless organization they are. Obviously sleazy indies wouldn't be great to work for either. What promotion of the past would you most liked to have worked for? What promotion would you have hated working for the most? 80's/early 90's All Japan would have been great. The foreigners really got great pushes, the company was doing strong business and Baba was supposedly the most honest promoter a lot of guys have ever worked for. Sounds like a good place to be. Any wrestlers today that you'd like to work against? Any you would avoid working against at all costs? Working Taue would be fun. I would love to wrestle Tanahashi, just because he'd take such a good beating from me. I'd probably avoid working a lot of the roid stiffs in WWE, just because they're sloppy and they suck in the ring. What wrestlers from the past would you like to work against? What wrestlers from the past would you not want to work against? Working against Andre would have been neat. He seemed like a good guy as long as you were respectful. I wouldn't want to work against The Sheik or Abdullah. Not really interested in getting ripped up by some guys who don't know how to do anything else. -
King of Colosseum II says hi.

Me neither, but it certainly wasn't bad. The 6mans were snoozefests, but every other match had some good stuff going on, even if they weren't actually good matches.
-
No, it was a bad show, it really was The pre show was the MOTN, and that is BAD, no matter how you slice it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shrug. I tend to consider a bad show to be one where the matches are generally bad. The matches on this show weren't generally bad. There were a couple stinkers, but the rest was passable. If this was bad, then some recent WWE PPVs/early TNA monthlys have been the worst shows in wrestling history.
-
It wasn't a bad show. It was certainly better than WWE PPVs lately, but not by a huge margin. It was a very hit or miss show, and the crummy ending is going to leave a bad taste in people's mouthes. Overall it was kind of just an average show.
-
Largely meaningless how? It looked like general wear down stuff to me, and that's never meaningless. They did however run out of things to do with a couple minutes left and that really killed the flow of the match. The ending sequence was good enough though. This destroyed the Angle-HBK ironman to be sure, but that's not saying a whole lot. I'll have to watch it again more closely to really get a feel for how it ranks overall though.
-
That was an entertaining ECW-style brawl. It wasn't technically good or anything, but it was certainly fun to watch. Hardy's tope atomico was fucking nuts. I didn't think he enough room between the ramp and the table to hit it, nor did I think he could cover the ground from the perch to the table. Just crazy.
-
That's the first thing I thought when the match ended so abruptly. But the JJ interview where Monty interupted him got me thinking that Brown is gonna be the guy. Plus, I didn't really think they'd hotshot the title on Joe at this point. (and I don't think he'd be jobbing, clean or otherwise)
-
Complaining about how "out of shape" Liger is, is silly too. He's been roided up for years now. And he's not exactly a terrible worker at this point either.
-
Joe-Liger was just..very very disappointing. Plus, all the people who's saying Liger is fat - Liger is gassed up. His upperbody isn't chiseled, but it's HUGE with muscle. He's not actually fat.
-
Why is Monty Brown teaming with Jarrett, I thought Brown was a face? It's gonna be fun to see Joe kill Elix. Extended squashes are fun.
-
I guess the main matches for me were Angle-HBK, the ladder match and Rey vs. Eddy. The latter 2 I only thought were average, but were fine for being undercard "support" matches. I thought Angle vs. HBK was excellent, so that combined with the other 2 made the card somewhat worthwhile even though the 2 main events weren't very good at all. I don't think the show was good, but I don't think it was bad either. TNA PPVs lately have been kind of following that formula. Although the "secondary" matches on TNA's PPVs have been better than the "secondary" matches I listed above. Sacrifice for example had the Styles-Joe match to carry it, a good match in Waltman-Lynn, a decent match in Aries-Daniels and then an average match in Shocker-Shelley to fill out the undercard. Then the other 4 were all pretty much throwaways. But it was still a decent show in my book.

TNA Comments which don't warrant a thread
World's Worst Man replied to dubq's topic in TNA Wrestling
They need more TV time, or they need to start running PPVs every other month as opposed to every month. ~4 hours of TV isn't even close to enough time to build a PPV. -
The fourway should be fun, but I have no illusions about it actually being a good match. It'll just be a showcase for the newer guys (GenNext) to hit all their spots. Joe vs. Liger has the potential to be good enough that it carries the whole PPV. But I'm sure some "people" will whine about the match having "no story", even if the guys tell a good story in the ring. With Joe-Liger carrying the card, Styles vs. Daniels should be good enough to support it, with one or 2 other above-average to decent matches. Nothing wrong with that kind of PPV, even if the world title match will stink. I mean hey, WMXXI had crummy main events too, but it wasn't so bad overall because of Angle-HBK and one or 2 other ok matches.

Yes, you missed quite an eventful week, as my blog, and post in your idiocy thread detailed.
