I don't like the fact that we already drafted him last year, when his name was Kevin Martin; why didn't Petrie try to get somebody that addresses a fucking need, instead of continuing this fascination with acquiring guys that can play in our "system?" There is no "system" anymore; when we got rid of Webber, Divac and Christie, our "system" failed to exist. How about getting somebody who's best skills aren't exactly the same as what we already have, for a change? EDIT - Looks like Chad Ford agrees with me; well, I guess he can't be wrong about everything... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good call on the system, Slim. I think people still think there is this system in place because Adelman is still coach, but the personnel they have now is not the same and definitely not executing the same as the teams from the last several years. Personally, I thought we should've gone after Wayne Simien. Even though he is a bit undersized and an injury risk, he is still a player that fills a need. The only thing I can defend the Garcia pick with is perhaps the Kings have gotten tipped Mobley won't re-sign and perhaps they are going to let Bobby Jackson go as well, leaving a huge hole at shooting guard. I just really hope we can get Matt Barnes back.

I figured it out awhile back in the early/mid 80's. My father always told me it was fixed, but I was skeptical. Then during a tag match with Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff vs some nameless jobbers, Sheik spit on the back of one of th jobbers and the guy sold it like he had been shot. That pretty much did it right there. In regards to snuffbox's comment about the fakeness of wrestling and the fakeness of movies. Some people just don't wish to suspend disbelief when it comes to wrestling because of the liveliness of it. They'll do it for movies and TV, but not for wrestling. That was the point of "get it". Suspend your disbelief and give us a chance to entertain you with our action/adventure, which was and still is the company line when it comes to what product they are. (but aren't doing a good job of presenting lately)

Spanky requested to go and Noble was fired because of drugs (which is a fair enough reason, I suppose). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Noble got busted using steroids, which 90% of the roster or higher are using. It's just that Noble developed a cyst on his ass from a shot, then tried to have the treatment paid for and when it came out that it was from a steroid injection gone bad, WWE had to let him go. However, if this happened to someone who was higher on the card like HHH, JBL, Angle, or even Benoit, they would have either done more to hide this coming out or would have ignored it. Since Noble isn't high on the card, they had no problem letting him go. Think about this, if Noble was on the juice, and he wasn't the biggest guy in terms of straigh muscle either, you've got to figure the number of 90% isn't off. Even with very good genetics, you can see who is and isn't juiced. Just trying to bust the bubble of people who still think smark favs like Benoit, Eddy, and Angle don't juice.

As tekcop pointed out, "the end" has been predicted by people as far back as people can remember. Folks of a particular time will always point out "signs" that the end is coming and blah blah blah. I think these people have problems dealing with the fact that the world will go on WITHOUT them! The world can't go on without me. The buck has got to stop with me, right? Wrong. It'll go on. Will it be better or worse, who knows? But it will go on.

I was forced to watch this in High School when we had a sub for one of my classes and the teacher didn't want to do a lesson and just let us watch a movie. I'd rather have done a lesson. Any lesson. That movie is really, really overrated IMO. Probrably doesn't help that I'm one of the few people who can't stand Robin Williams. I had a bias going into the movie and the movie didn't help. I actually appreciate when Robin isn't going 100 mph like with Good Will Hunting and The Birdcage. He was fine in those perfomances. It's just the rest of his existence in movies and standup that have bugged the shit out of me.

For all 3 of you Wire fans, what have you heard on Season 4? From the website, the story will focus on Baltimore's educational system. I've heard the mayorial hopeful from Season 3 (his name escapes me right now) will be back and I've heard from a hip hop site that Marlo might be back. The way Season 3 ended, it looks like they wrapped up the characters of McNulty, Omar, and the entire Barksdale crew. I could see some of the other police stepping in to take the lead (either Lester Freeman or Daniels) I wonder if they'll go with a new lead detective? And after viewing Season 2 on DVD, I have much more appreciation for that season. I can see where people were turned off by it since viewers were conditioned to think The Wire was all War on Drugs. Instead, they branched it out and it really worked well for me. It's still not as good as Season 1 or 3, just for the fact that Barksdale and his crew were flat out fascinating to watch. They really gave them layers as opposed to just street thugs.

Cause I felt like annoying you, bob.

I don't like Coach and even I will admit he's stepped up since being put with JR and King. Hopefully Coach will continue improvement and perhaps even get more product knowledge and follow storylines. As for Cole, I just flat out don't like his voice and find him annoying. I don't have any alternatives except guys who are outside the company and know that Cole is the best they've got right now (which doesn't say much about the state of announcing). That said, he still calls moves wrong occasionally (which I blame on editing some because they tape SD and can correct Cole's many mistakes) and he just comes off like a total tool. Just because he's the best thing available now doesn't mean he can't be criticized still.

Except Holly, I like most of the names mentioned on the lists provided by this thread. It's too bad they are gonna keep a bunch of bad acting divas (specifically the ones from last year's Diva Search) and adding new ones. If they are such a big draw, why don't they just give them their own, non-wrestling skin show? You could still keep gals like Torrie and Stacy around on actual WWE shows because it's ok to look at occasional arm candy, but I think they have way, way too many divas right now.
-
Fuckin WWE. Definitely NOT getting this show. I'll choose to remember how the show went down live rather than through filtered WWE lenses.

I voted selects only for the fact that they sort of resemble real chicken inside the breading. I'm not sure what kind of meat is inside McNuggets, but legally I guess they are calling it chicken.

I think Edge would have more to lose if he went off the deep end and got unprofessional in the ring. So if any funny stuff were to go down, it'd probrably be from Hardy. You figure Hardy has probrably learned his lesson and won't be looking to fuck up a rare second chance from WWE. If they can get Matt on board by early-mid July to get him ready for SumSlam, I bet a Hardy-Edge matchup at SumSlam could carry that show to a very lucrative buyrate. I'm willing to be a diddle eyed joe to a damned if I know (Tarantino reference) that the playing of Hardy's music at the faux wedding was a test to see if the crowd is still hot for Matt. Let's see if there is a follow up.
-
For Batista to be a money player, I'm liking what I hear from this group. Batista v JBL from now until SumSlam or maybe a month after. Batista vs Undertaker for SurSer and through Rumble. Batistat vs Orton for WM and beyond. Key is will they have the patience to keep Batista strong through all that without losing faith in him or having politics play their usual ugly hand?
-
If they go with HHH v Cena at Summerslam, they will blow their load. Perhaps they go with Angle v Cena at Summerslam and HHH v Cena at Survivor Series. Just depends on how long HHH can go without a title around his waist. I really have no desire to see Hogan/HBK v Flair/HHH. The former DX'ers are stale and Hogan and Flair can no longer perform at a decent level in the ring (at least for me)

I'm just happy the Mexicools are even on TV and given time to possibly get over. I'm not crazy about them coming in on lawn mowing equipment, but oh well. WWE lives in a bubble and in that bubble, if you are anything outside of white or black, you have to get sterotyped or else you aren't "marketable" or entertaining. You can't possibly get over unless your race is played up in caricature form and jacked up a couple notches. It's the WWE way.
-
From a financial standpoint, he'd be a fool not to wait to see what WWE might do. TNA may not even exist in the next 60 days. WWE has a potentially hot feud waiting for him. Personally, I think he waits until WWE gives him an offer or tells him no thanks.

The Kobashi/Misawa vs Kawada/Taue tags from the early/mid 90's, as well as some of the Misawa/Akiyama vs Kawada/Taue matches from the 96 RWTL go away from the usual tag formula. However... 1) Because they were the ME, they were given tons of time to tell a different story. 2) As HTQ brought up, in some of the matches, heel/face lines were blurred a bit as even when Kawada and Taue would heel it up, the fans would often still cheer them.

Sorry to get all Star Warsy, but I sense a disturbance in the Force. That disturbance is the Raw Diva Search. This clearly shows Russocity is still alive.

Not sure if I like the Diogu pick from GS. With guys like Granger still on the board, I hope this move doesn't come back to bite them in the ass. As for my Kings, I want to like Garcia, but I dont like the fact that he is 6'8 and only 190 ibs. Definitely needs to bulk up. Everyone has him as a 2 guard, but I think he can move over and play a little 3. I do like that he is a long player and hope to God he can play some defense.

Boston to take Gerald Green? I doubt it. I wonder if Green will drop down to 23 to Sac? Yeah right.

It's funny that the Bad Boys are the ones who helped usher in the type of philosophy that helped win championships through the 90's and right now. The Pistons were the ones who held the "defense wins championships" saying to become the truth. The 80's were dominated by the offensive juggernauts of the Celtics and Lakers. People all want to say that MJ's Bulls finally became a championship team when Jordan finally started using his team to help him win as opposed to using his team to get him the ball in the right places, which actually is a part of it. However, I think what helped put the Bulls over the top was they became a much, much better defensive team. I remember the "release the dobermans" press the Bulls would use when they went on one of their stranglehold defensive stands. All the way through to now, the NBA champion has been a top 5 defensive team. You don't have to lock a team down for 48 minutes, but you do have to be able to fall back on your defense when the offense goes to hell and you need to be able to turn it up defensively when you sense the other team is ripe for the picking. The Laker and Celtic dynasties of the 80's weren't defensive chumps or anything, but they chose to run and run and out shoot and then try to clamp down the last couple of possessions. If you go and watch NBA TV and catch a game or 2 from the 80's, you will see that guys just don't play the defense they do now. Just a totally different mindset. Bottom Line: The Bad Boy Piston teams influence was felt througout the 90's and into today.

I am a Kings fan, so I do have my biases towards Mr. Bryant. That said, I cannot deny he is a top 5-10 player in the league and his game is pretty sick. There are things Kobe does that make me not like him. For instance, when he dunked on Doug Christie's head and got the foul, then turns around like an asshole and does the "get the dirt off your shoulder" bit with this asshole look on his face. To me, there is no need for that. It's little things like that that hurt his image. Why couldn't he just finish the play, then head off to high five his teammates? I know some players do similar things like scream after a dunk or highlight play, but what Kobe did wasn't necessary. There are other things he's done like when he got hot in Sac during a playoff game and was showing up the crowd like blowing on his fingers and telling them to shut the fuck up and what not. Now I know there are guys who do similar things in the league, but most of those guys are also viewed as assholes. Plus, Kobe gets away with it. Most stars get away with it. I hate it when Mike Bibby gets hot and does that ridiculous little pounce dance when he gets hot. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind when players celebrate a good play by themselves or with teammates. But I don't like it when they rub it in the faces of the opponent or fans. That's just me. In terms of the rest of the board or league, I don't know. Again, I respect the hell out of Kobe and think he's a top 3 guard in this league (others are T-Mac and LeBron) but he's in a Laker uni. I know if T-Mac did what he did in a Laker uni, I'd hate him equally. I also know that when you drop a teammates name to help get yourself out of trouble, then you are not going to endear your self to people. As for the Karl Malone thing, who knows. It's he said, he said. It just looks bad for Kobe because here is a guy who could've kept the issue in house, but chose to get it out in the open. And yes, if you go back and look, it was Kobe who chose to make it public. It plays up to the whole Kobe is a drama queen thing and that is not a respectable tag to hold in the league. It also hurts Kobe's cause because here is a guy who admittedly lied to his wife about fornicating, yet we are supposed to believe him now? I particularly don't care if Kobe and Karl fight or fuck, but I see where it looks bad to other fans.

Although I'll be going to the 4th of July Supershow at Arco in Sacto, I won't be able to go to this because I'm going out of town this weekend. Oh well.

Congrats to the Spurs. They deserve it. Now onto post game thoughts... - Obviously the turning point was the 3rd quarter when the Spurs finally got Tim going and the Spurs finally played some defense worth a damn. Defensively, the Spurs had not played well for almost 2 whole games going on 3. - Tim's legacy will now go down with as many championships as Kobe and Shaq. If he wins any more, I wonder where he'll place in history. Right now, there is an argument for him being the greatest PF to ever play. - I see a lot of Ginobili love here, as well there should be. The only thing I can defend Tim with here is that without Tim's prescence in the post, Ginobili would not have the oppurtunities he gets on a regular basis. Tim and Manu pretty much need each other. With pressure, Manu can be forced to make some bad plays, as shown in game 6. - Pistons should hang their heads high. Ben Wallace is all heart. I wish there were more like him. Billups, for all the clutch play he had displayed through the last 2 playoff runs, did not play well tonight although he did have foul trouble in the first half. Rasheed is Rasheed. You are going to get some bad, but mostly good out of him. Rip was disappointing tonight and Tayshaun really, really, really needs to be more aggressive offensively. I think he could be an All Star caliber player if he just looked for his shot more often. - Offseason will be interesting for Detroit. We all know about Larry Brown and how he will probrably not be back for next year. I'm not sure of the contract situations for the players, but there are a couple of things that need addressing. 1) Either play Darko or trade the poor guy. I think his psyche is so gone I don't think he can be productive for this ball club. 2) They need more 3 point shooting. They successful in Game 6 because they had a combo of inside game coupled with 3 point shooting. Chauncey can't haul up that many 3's and Hamilton is more a 2 point long range shooter. 3) As brought up here, they need some backcourt depth. Arroyo isn't the answer and Hunter is alright as a defensive sparkplug, but they need a 3rd backcourt scoring threat.
