    Jones vs. Tarver

Mr Rant corrects me. I swore I saw on the scroll on ESPN 2 that 2 titles were on the line, but I guess I was wrong.

Gotta agree with Kahran on the Paris bit. Although my audience applauded after the movie was over, it was more because they saw a good movie as opposed to what Paris did at the end. I got the feeling no one liked him. One thing that hurts Paris character in this movie is the abscence of the gods. They push quite a bit of the action, Paris's action in particular. Still, he sucks. While I did think Achilles was egotistical, I didn't find him to be a moron. The only thing that stuck in my craw about the movie was Pitt's turn as Achilles. It wasn't a terrible performance or anything, but it came off very James Dean-ish, rebel witout a cause more so than just a badass, angry fuck like I thought he'd be more like.

    Jones vs. Tarver

I know 2 different titles were on the line, I just don't know which ones they were. In boxing, unless you are a buff, it's difficult to keep up with all the different boxing organizations. Roy Jones Jr shouldn't have overlooked Tarver. He barely fucking beat him the first time out. I think age and cockiness finally caught up to him. This knockout will either make him seriously consider retirement or get him to step up his fights.

I would still pick the Lakers against the T-wolves or Kings, but the Kings match up better than the T-wolves do for the simple fact that the Kings big men like Divac and Miller can make Shaq labor somewhat, if not scare him into playing somewhat passively because of fear of foul trouble with all the acting Divac will bring to the table. Bibby, Webber and Co. still have that chip on their shoulder from 2 years ago and they have something to prove to themselves and the Lakers. That will push the Kings to at least stay competitive. I didn't say they'd win, but they can push the series to 6 or 7 games. Minnesota would either get swept or beat in 5. They have less depth and have less of an answer for Shaq than the rest of the teams left in the West. Ervin Johnson and Olowokandi? Give me a break. Shaq would average about 35 ppg against the Wolves. Kobe will probrably get the same. Minnesota offers the path of least resistance for the Lakers now. Nice to see the Pacers get back on track. I think they'll quit fucking around and put the Heat away on Tuesday. If they don't, they'll put them away in 7 because the Heat just flat out cannot win on the road in the playoffs. Good thing for the Heat is they are young and now have a 3 headed nucleus (Odom, Wade, Butler) to build a better team around for the next few years. Tommorrow, I think the Kings will extend their series to a seventh game (at least I pray they do) and the Nets may unfortunately put the Pistons to bed after that triple overtime classic. The Pacers should do themselves a favor and finish off the Heat so they can deal with the Nets or Pistons. I think the Pacers matchup well with any of the 3 teams leftover in the West, including the Lakers. They just have to get more killer instinct seeing as they had the easiest second round matchup and still have to go at least 6 or 7 games to finish off their opponent.

Looks like the Pacers have tweaked the D a little. Heat only have 47 points with over 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

Make or break time for the Spurs tonight. One thing I agree with is Barkley's assertion that the Spurs need to still be in the game with a lead or only a small margin behind because the Spurs haven't played coming back from behind against the Lakers. I think this game will be more mental than physical from both teams standpoint. The Spurs need to forget about game 5 and concentrate on winning a game on the road. The Lakers need to humble themselves into not thinking they are hot shit and come out aggressive against SA because if they let up just a little, they'll find themselves back at SBC on Wednesday for game 7. While the Heat are getting some love for the job they've done against the Pacers, hopefully Indiana gets their heads out of their asses and jump on these guys. I really don't want to see Miami in a 7 game series vs. the winner of Nets/Pistons. Kings last stand is tommorrow at Arco. I feel they should pull it out and force game 7, but with this helter skelter group, who knows. Each game has had a superstar put their stamp on a game. Game 1-Mike Bibby Game 2- Sam Cassell Game 3-Kevin Garnett Game 4- Chris Webber Game 5- Latrell Sprewell Who will step up for their team to make Game 6 theirs is the question?

Just got out of the theatre for this about an hour ago. Excellent movie. I found nothing wrong with it. If you are a big time Greek Mythology buff, you will be angered by the Hollywood treatment of Homer's tale, but this was still a good movie. When it ended, the theatre broke out in universal applause. Unlike Van Helsing, which broke out in sarcastic snickering and criticism moments after it ended.

What sports do you SERIOUSLY play?

Ditto here. Although some people in pickup games make me take the game too seriously and then I start picking it up defensively. Especially those former high school players that want to do things like run the triangle offense on the black top and shit. The ones who start getting angry at their teammates when they get burned defensively and whatnot. At that point, I lock in on them Artest-like and forsake my offense just to shut them up.

I guess the curse of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated has been lifted. The cover of the new issue has Malone and Kobe aggresively doubling Duncan with the title "Lakers Last Stand". The article goes on about how the Lakers are using the fact that the nucleus of the team (Shaq, Phil, Kobe) will probrably not be in tact next season and that they have to take advantage of their oppurtunity right now. I remember earlier this year during the NCAA tourney that SI picked UConn to win it all and they were the poster boys. Lo and behold they won. I think SI picked the Lakers to win it all this year in the NBA during their playoff issue. The inspiration the Lakers are using is also the same as the one the Kings are using. If they don't advance to the Finals this year, there will probrably be changes in Sacto as well like Divac not being resigned, Christie and/or C-Webb being dealt, Adelman perhaps getting canned are all possible if they don't make it. Other Kings news has Bobby Jackson working out the last week in the gym and with the team for a possible comeback in game 6. I doubt that however and think the Kings just use that as a tactic to keep teams from guessing who will be in the rotation. Jackson's contract ends after next year and I don't think he will jeopardize injuring himself further to possibly advance and ruin his chances at landing a big contract when he becomes a free agent next summer.

In the "no shit, Sherlock" dept of NBA news, David Stern has rejected the Spurs contention of "the shot". Looks like the Spurs are going to have to do it the hard way and win on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive. Yeah right. I think just about any team would be seriously demoralized after that finish. If the Spurs come out and win game 6, they really are robots or something because that finish would take anyone out of it. If the roles were reversed and it was the Spurs hitting a game winner with .4 on the clock, I'd say the exact same thing about the Lakers. One thing that bothers the fuck out of me is that if, and that's a big if, the Spurs win on Saturday, game 7 won't be until fucking Wednesday. That is bullshit. Supposedly the Commissioner has said that next season the playoff games will be scheduled closer to each other. I will wait and see for that.

Very demoralizing for the Spurs. It's all in how they respond now. They have to try to forget game 5 and concentrate on staving off elimination. I don't know if that's going to happen. Looking at the Spurs demeanor after the shot and the post game reactions of Duncan and Co., if I were a Spurs fan, I'd be concerned. Their body language wasn't good and they looked like they were eliminated from the playoffs with that play. For Sac to win over Minn I think they have to do it in 6 games. The Kings don't fare well in game 7's as shown the last 2 years. While the Lakers are a better matchup for the Kings, I still wouldn't put money on Sac. Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for my Kings, but I can't for sure call anything with them this season with all their helter skelter play. Detroit and Indiana can give any of the Western Conference teams a run for their money. If any of those teams end up in the Finals, the series will go 6-7 games for sure. If New Jersey or Miami (yeah right) end up in the finals, you'll be lucky to see a 5 game series against the West.

I'm locked in for Friday as well. I'm big on Greek mythology and am waiting to see how this turns out. One thing I do know is that the movie is different from the books in that the Greek gods were left out and it's just the mortals acting on their own accord.

We are ALL knotted up at 2 a piece!! It's now a best of 3 series with all the matchups. This certainly makes up for the lackluster first round.

Spurs are in trouble now. Lakers are going to be looking to steal game 5 and try to eliminate on Sunday. (since the league sucks and won't have games every other day when the weekend rolls around) Winner of this series wins the west because Minnesota and Sacramento are too depleted and have even less of an answer for Shaq. Pistons seem to be sputtering as well since it looks like the Nets have got their running game back. It's weird since that is how you beat the Nets. Stop their running game and make them play half court and they are through. Detroit did that in games 1 and 2, but failed to do it in 3 and 4.

Will/should the Lakers revamp their roster?

Memphis is going to have to dump or trade guys because I don't think they have much cap room. No one mentions the Phoenix Suns as a possible option. They are going to have a ton of cap room and Stoudamire and Marion are perfect guys to compliment Kobe, IMO. I would've mentioned the Clips as another good fit, but the Clips can't win, even with talent.

Dames is all over it. And I'm not just saying that because of his position. It's for all the reasons that he stated. Jack has broken rules. Tony has too. In the previews, it seems like he and Jack start working together again, but I don't know for sure.

Jimmy's leaving? There is a God. I hate him. He ruins Weekend Update, IMO. I know you say he hasn't done anything offensive lately, but I still can't stand him and I think SNL will be a better show without his cock eating ass.

If the Kings have any pride left, they'll win game 4 to make it a best of 3 series. The only positive the Kings have is that they've been in this situation before whereas this is all new for the T-Wolves. I still would like a 6-7 game series, but if the T-Wolves win on Wednesday, the Kings are through. Tonight's Nets-Pistons and Lakers-Spurs games will all be close in my opinion. I can also see these 2 series getting knotted up at 2 a piece, but if I had to put money on it, I'd bet the Pistons coming out with a 3-1 advantage. Kobe is doing another one of those in court in Colorado and fly back in the nick of time for the game acts. Everytime Kobe has done this, he's been spectacular. No reason to think this will be any different. Spurs may be in trouble if Kobe catches his just in a courtroom fire.

T-Wolves have the lead at the half by 10. Kings need to hit some shots and Peja and C-Webb need to lay off the weed. I swear they are playing like they are on drugs right now. I am not surprised at this though as I knew Minn would respond well tonight. Let's see what the second half brings us.
