I get the feeling if Mike Goldberg would've said yes to Vince in October, he would've either quit by now and/or people would have been screaming for JR to come back. (probrably the former more than the latter)

The best comparison...

I think Hulk Hogan matches are a great case where from a technical standpoint, the matches fucking suck. The execution is usually half assed and/or sloppy. They are even more formulaic than your average match and talk about no-selling. If Hogan's run were to be booked today, there'd be a shitfit on the 'net about how Hogan is killing finishers left and right. Thing is, that was WWF's formula at the time. Run with one godlike guy that everyone knows is going to prevail in the end and since he had charisma for days, he could pull it off. The important thing to remember is, this all drew tons of money. Sure, I really didn't care for it, but it worked. It did 3 essential things...1) It drew money 2) It sent fans home happy 3) They wanted more of it after it was over. Up until about 2-3 years ago, I was very guilty of ripping matches apart that didn't fit a certain guideline of what I thought a match should be. Part of it was being exposed to puro, which is more realistic, and MMA. Then as I started to get more into Lucha, I started having fun with it, even though the action looks more choreographed than an Indy spotfest. Thing is, it worked. The crowd loved it and I could see why. Now, I'm more of a fan of what works versus what doesn't work. Some things work for the majority of fans that doesn't work for me, which is fine. It doesnt' mean those fans are idiots or are wrong with their feelings. It also doesn't mean there's something wrong with me. Sometimes, a crazy non sensical spotfest will work better on a certain day than a brilliantly worked match that is technically flawless. -
It won't be if they give them the go home cue 10 minutes before they are supposed to end.

Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania
Dangerous A replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
I'll just bring my point up again that Bret was shown footage that was going to be on "Screwed" and perhaps seeing that made Bret feel the way he feels and taken the stance he has in regards to HBK's presence at the HOF. Maybe Bret would've been able to stomach HBK in the same room, but the comments and footage from "Screwed" soured HBK to Bret? Perhaps the animosity from 9 years ago died down but HBK's commentary from Screwed opened up old wounds. -
Count me out for any and all 9/11 movies. The real thing can't be beat. There is no emotion Hollywood can get out of me that the real thing hasn't already done.

Not sure if he gets that highest paid deal if he just appears vs having an scheduled match. I know he's not slated to appear past saturday, but that could just be because they want a surprise or two for WM.
-
Hulk probrably has something to do with it. He has a clause in his contract that he is to be the highest paid or tied for hightest paid on a card if he appears. They probrably are keeping Hogan off WM as a cost cutting measure since him just appearing and not in a money drawing match will cost them more than the trouble he's worth. Since Brooke has Hulk attached to the hip, that probrably went out the window.

Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania

No, I don't. It'll take Vince being six feet under before we never hear of this again. I honestly think HBK and Bret could get over it. Vince will never get over it. -
Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania
Dangerous A replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
One thing to keep in mind is that before Bret agreed to work on his DVD, WWE did show him the footage of what HBK, HHH, Hogan, Flair, etc. said about him for the "Screwed" DVD, where they said HBK had absolutely nothing good to say about him and buried him left and right. Seeing as those comments were not from the distant past, perhaps it opened up old wounds. Now, a lot of people would say Bret needs to get over it, but I'm pretty sure I'd be miffed if I saw footage of a bunch of my peers verbally blasting me for a DVD that was going to rival, if not surpass the Warrior DVD in terms of burying my career. You can armchair quarterback it all you want, but it would be hard to be in the same room with certain people after seeing them talk mad shit about you. -

In honor of the Iron Sheik giving me the most hilarious moments in shoot wrestling history recently, I will now refer to Okurlund as "Gene Mean". -
Are you talking about Scott Hall? I remember him getting hit with a drink in the ring square in the head and he proceeded to slick his hair back with whatever drink was thrown. Just an excellent improv moment.

The ankle injury kind of set Garcia back. It was real goofy how he turned the ankle too, but oh well. I think he can be a great defensive player because of his length, but he also has great timing on his blocks and anticipating passes coming near him.

Rey is not a world class promo. I'd venture to say he's as bad as Orton. People will probrably cite his work in the Eddie/Dominic angle, but I didn't think Rey was any good in that. Eddie and Dominic were.

Mysterio started to annoy me when he started doing the Eddie shimmy as a hulk up spot in his matches. If he knocks that off, he comes off the shit list.

Kevin Martin is a weird one. He started to slowly come around when Bonzi went down and then when Artest came aboard, his game went up several notches. This, despite having the ugliest shooting stroke this side of Bill Cartwright. I still think Bonzi becomes expendable after this season and Martin becomes the starting 2 guard. While Bonzi's rebounding and postup game are valuable, they aren't irreplaceable.

Fuckin Kings. I swear they're trying to take this playoff berth down to the wire or something. I think we've hit a rut since Kevin Martin has been benched for injury.

To cite an example about stuff not making sense, yet working because of the crowd reactions... HHH vs Shawn Michaels- Non Sanctioned Street Fight Summerslam 2002. I remember a ton of people online crucifying HBK for no selling the back work with his kip up and comeback. Did it make sense? Hell no it didn't. Did the audience at the bar I watched it live or the live audience in the arena care about HBK's non sensical no selling. No they didn't. They ate it up with a spoon. Despite the fact that I am not a huge fan of either guy's work since 2001, this match worked for the audience. It got a reaction that was positive. I've heard defenders of the match justify the no selling that HBK hulked up and that HHH hurt Shawn Michaels in the match, but HBK came out in the middle and was a new man or whatever (similar to the current Steve Borden/Sting deal). You know what? Who cares. Crowd loved the match. At least the majority of them did. Of course, that doesn't mean we can't come online and criticize it, but you can't deny the crowd liked the match and didn't care about the blatant no selling. -
It reminds me of Summerslam 2000. The main event was bulit around the Triple H/Angle/Steph angle and Rock was in the match simply because he was the WWF Champion. However, people actually cared about that match and it pretty much became another Rock/Triple H match after Angle was knocked silly. Well, Rock still had beef with Triple H during the time. They just so happened to have Angle/HHH as the main focus. Angle, has no issue with either man. He really isn't needed for the whole thing, the champion shouldn't be a third wheel or the afterthought. They should have just slapped the title on Orton instead once Batista dropped it. Then, have Orton start the Eddy mockery (which WWE was going to do no matter what) and then have Rey win the rumble, only eliminating Angle instead of Orton. Angle, with a nastier streak then ever could have challenged Undertaker and they could have done Angle/Taker for Mania. Instead, we get Angle stuck in match as a third wheel and a idiotic casket match (the casket match, almost kills any upside that Henry/Taker had). Politically, I wonder if this could have gotten done. Taker is very protective of himself and his WM streak. While it would've fulfilled Taker's wish to have a memorable, kick ass match at Mania, I'm not sure Angle would've been down to job the title to Taker and I'm not sure Vince and Co. would want the belt on Taker, post Mania. Still, that said I'd much rather have seen Taker/Angle and Rey/Orton than what they've booked now.

Amen to that. -
I think they wanted to really see if he coold give it a go and become the big man threat the Suns need to go deep into the playoffs. For the sake of the future, I think they need to shut Amare down for the rest of this season. While I don't think the Suns will win it all or even win the West, they will be a tough out in a 7 game series with what they have sans Stoudamire.

In rehab. His wife had him put in rehab for painkiller abuse. This was right when Jeremy Borash took over the backstage interviewer spot.

Sort of veering off a little, Bill Buchanan is a very underrated character. I think the guy playing him (name escapes me right now) does so just perfectly. He's sort of a stiff and he kind of has to be considering the position he's in, yet he still shows flexibility and range when making very demanding decisions. Just a good acting job IMO.
-
Oh, no doubt he's going to be annoying and in the way. I just like how they were implying he was a total fuckhole and turns out he might just be a plain fuckhole.

After watching Simond Diamond do a little commentary with Tenay and West during the Ozzie Guillen chairshot angle, I think Simon should seriously consider lobbying to be the heel in a 3 man announce team. As a lot of people have said and I agree, people are tired of 2 face announcers doing the tired face announcer screaming deal. Simon is not bad from that little bit I've seen and I think would help freshen up the announce team dynamic (or lack thereof)
