5'10, 190 Same as Czech, except I'm an inch shorter. I lost 30lbs since last year and would like to shed off some more, but now I've gotten lazy and have stayed at the same weight since the beginning of summer. Lately I've been starting to gain more of a gut, somehow.

I'm not that big of a baseball fan although I like to follow the Toronto Blue Jays during the summer, but I remember the last time the Jays blew a shitload of money on a hyped free-agent closer, Randy Myers, and it backfired. They traded him in midseason if I recall correctly. Again, I'm no expert (I know someone will come on here and talk about how crucial it is to have a great closer), but it seems foolish to spend such a huge amount on a pitcher who generally pitches 1 inning every few games and aside from a guy like Gagne, most closers can be pretty unpredictable and inconsistant in their performance. But what do I know, right?

Leafs were ROBBED of a goal in OT - by the referee with the quick whistle! Instead, they lose the shootout. I hate shootouts! And Rob Schick of course.
-
The Leafs were due for another meltdown, I guess.

Ottawa's lost two straight match-ups with Carolina. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, thanks for clarifying. I just read it the wrong way. The Jiri Fischer business sure doesn't sound good, hope he's alright.
-
How can Carolina be going for a 3rd straight victory if they lost the last two games?
-
Yes, and you're right. Any paper that employs both Al Strachan and Steve Simmons can't be taken seriously.

The TO media is full of shit, trying to create a story where there is none. All we know is Allison asked for more icetime because he felt he needed it, Quinn didn't agree and one of the media guys comes up with an "unnamed source" saying he went to the GM about it and generally painting him as a selfish headcase, among other things. The guy is struggling so bad that he's 2nd on the team in points, but he's a slow skater and not going to score 50 goals. Fuck the media and the worthless fans that buy into their BS. Always trying to start a shitstorm. Sorry, but I get pissed off thinking about it. Definitely not opposed to trading him though. The solid play from our trifecta of young forwards (Steen, Stajan and Wellwood) makes it possible to not be hurt from trading him, but to be helped by filling a need somewhere else (defence, anyone?).

Wait, they would never do one for the Toronto Blue Jays. They're a Canadian team and therefore irrelevant.

30 teams in 30 days?

Baseball is a team game that is decided by a hitter vs. a pitcher. Just because the second baseman can't do anything about the winning home run doesn't make it less of a win. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But many different things can happen in baseball to create scoring plays. It's not like baseball games can be decided by home-run derbies.

Like, an All-Star game with Heterosexual All-Stars vs. Homosexual All-Stars? Maybe that'd get the WNBA some ratings. Maybe.
-
I definitely agree they shouldn't give a point for losing in overtime, but I still can't get myself to accept the concept of the shootout. You got a team game, closely played and still undecided after 3 periods and overtime, so the game will now be decided by a matchup of a lone skater vs. a goalie? When the way the game is decided changes like that, both teams ought to be awarded at least one point or else it's a complete rip-off for the team that loses the shootout. The NHL should expand overtime to at least 10 minutes, too.
-
At the very least, 3 columns, assimilate OT losses and shootout losses. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's exactly what they do, OT losses and SO losses are listed under "OL".

Awesome.

Just for the regular season. And this is where I got the records: http://www.shrpsports.com/nhl/result.htm If you want to find out what the Maple Leafs all-time record is against the Canadiens at home on Saturdays in October (3-1-0), this is the place to find it.

Montreal's real all-time record against Original Six teams (before this season, so add a win to their records against the Bruins and Rangers): vs Boston, 313-254-103, .544 vs Chicago, 299-147-103, .638 vs Detroit, 269-197-96, .564 vs NY Rangers, 308-178-94, .612 vs Toronto, 314-264-88, .538

The Leafs defence is alright, nothing great, prone to big brainfarts sometimes, but what do you expect with McCabe leading the way. He'll play great for awhile and then do something really stupid. They need Klee back to bump Berg down to the 3rd pairing, at least he's consistent.

Most consecutive complete games by a goaltender - 502, by Glenn Hall from 1955-56 to 1962-63, and he started 503 consecutive games but was removed in the 1st period of that game with a back injury. The last goalie ever to appear in every game in a season was Ed Johnston with Boston in 1963-64 (70 games). I think it's safe to say that record will never be broken.
-
Actually, they played each other in the semifinals '78, and again in the 2nd round of the '79 playoffs, the Habs sweeping the Leafs both times.

Many hockey fans now wish that the game was more like it was in the 80's (and I don't blame them because in recent years it's often been a monotonous clutch-and-grab fest with scoring chances that would've been a goal 20 years ago being easily swallowed up by an oversized goalie). It is interesting to note that when the trend towards more scoring began to develope post-WHA, not everyone was happy about it because they felt that defensive play was being completely abandoned and some even thought the game was becoming less physical. Here's an old Sports Illustrated article that I saw awhile back:

I was one of them.
