Benoit vs. Lesnar still scheduled for the Rumble

The Cat Not Well Liked Backstage.

To Vince McMahon, The Cat is the new Slick. Vince has a sort of affinity for MoTown and whatnot... hence Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Lil Richard, Boyz 2 Men, Salt n Pepa, Run DMC, etc. singing at Wrestlemania. I can imagine Vince, growing up in North Carolina, headin over to the wrong side of the tracks to listen to the "black music". Oooh, what times they were. He'd sip on his Dr. Pepper at the back of the broken down music hall and just snap his fingers - never wanting to get too out-of-control. Then he met his estranged father - a staunch Irish fellow who knew the value of marketing to ethnic groups - and this only enhanced his passion for the dark arts.

WWE Considering Bringing Back Hall Of Fame

McMahon:"And now, we're here to offer a spot in the hall of fame to Bret "The Hitman" Hart" *Hebner holds HOF award out* *Hart walks up to accept* "That's it, give him the fuckin award!" *HBK jumps out of nowhere and Earl hands it to him instead* *Hart watches in disbelief* *Hart spits on McMahon*

Does anyone else _still_ have "the feeling"? I don't know how to really describe it; it's almost a sublime calm - if that makes any sense. I said ROTK was the most satisfying movie I've seen and a day later I am still satisfied. I don't really want to see any other movie this year, cause I've already seen "it". I'm not hungry. It's a strange feeling, cause usually I end up wanting more and more from, well, anything... everything. Usually, I want to see this character in this situation and see what happens - or what if this happened... I don't want to see more Lord of the Rings - I don't want to read the books to find out more about these characters - I don't really care about an extended edition, even though I really liked the Two Towers additions. The journey is truly over. That's why I didn't really feel emotional when watching Frodo go away, or Aragon being crowned King, or Gandalf saying goodbye... there's nothing more I want to see, so I'm not sad to see them go... there was nothing left for them to do but sail away.

What spots were sloppy? Who made them sloppy? What were the circumstances that led to it and what could they have done differently? What made the cruiserweight match "decent"? Was it their chemistry, spots, pace, build? Any neat lil moves in it? Taker vs. Big Show/Albert was so much better than you get it credit for where they worked the handicap match in a way that made sense. Taker got the advantage early because he needed to gain control and end it before they could slow it down and use their numbers. Taker was throwing some nice punches here and was definitely kicking up the workrate. Nice pace set early on and even when it slowed down they maximized their use of the holds. I dug the abdominal stretch used in the match; probably the best usage of it I've seen especially in a "big match". The tombstone at the end was a nice touch - alberts huge head added to it... I mean, that's a paragraph and I've only seen the match one or two times, which was a few months ago.

The OAO Return of The King thread

it is not without its flaws. As mentioned, the opening sequence is pointless, only providing backstory on Gollum’s life as Smeagol that adds nothing to the story. - Dr. Tom's review I totally disagree. In Two Towers it was established that Frodo see's his fate in Gollum. Gollum is who Frodo would eventually become if he possessed the ring long enough. In saving Gollum, Frodo is essentially saving himself. But Gollum could never be saved or cured; and neither could Frodo - which is why he left on the ship. I LOVED the beginning because it showed what Frodo and Sam's relationship would ultimately become. In _seconds_, Smeagol and Deagol were at each others throats over the ring. That is the rings true nature. That is why it must be destroyed; it turns you against those you love. This wasn't so much about Smeagol turning into Gollum and providing a backstory for _that_ character, as it was foreshadowing the split between Sam and Frodo. The split came, but it did not last because Sam is different. In truth, Smeagon and SAM are put in similar places. Deagol had the ring, Frodo had the ring. Smeagol wanted the ring and killed for it, Sam_did_not_. Sam hated Gollum not only because he tried to manipulate Frodo, but because Sam saw someone lusting for the ring; he could easily be in the same position - and for one moment - was. Plus the boat scene did provide backstory on Gollum and how he "forgot the trees" and his name. This was brought up again when Sam was asking Frodo to remember the Shire and Frodo couldn't. I liked watching the physical transformation as well as seeing Andy in a HUMAN role - a nice touch.

When THESE are the reasons?? "Matt/Rey: decent, too short ATrain/Big Show vs Undertaker: slow brawl, not interesting Victoria/Trish/Jazz: sloppy mess"

    Do you think...

Why is everyone getting the third degree for liking JEricho/HBK? Why is everyone acting like everyone is getting the 3rd degree for liking Jericho/HBK? The majority of posts in this thread have favoured Jericho/HBK where maybe 3 or 4 posters have said they didn't like it. There are probably more posters playing the victim than there are posters hating on the match. I liked it, good enough excuse for me. Yep. Thoughtless. Good enough for you. That's actually indicative of a lot of people who liked the match, and the event itself. Good showing; does WM proud. must I defend why I like it? Well it IS a discussion board. You don't have to, but it tends to improve quality if you do - not to mention it actually gives some meaning and relevance to what you say. Otherwise, all you'll get is "Duh, I likked it allot, it was intertayning ******" "Yeah, I licked it too. HBK roolz" "Yeha" "Yep" "*****". ... that's the type of convo someone would have in the 3rd grade. I think we are all high school educated -and better- here; we should be able to go beyond that and show some analytical skill. If you don't know why you like something, then I don't think you're paying attention; to the match, or yourself. And if my explanations aren't good enough, so what-at least I have reasons. When someone says "Sure, I'll go in depth" and then provides 2 and 3 *word* "detailed" analysis of a match, that's not only "not good enough", it's downright bad. And Bad Reasons are just as bad as No Reasons; infact, it's probably worse as it _takes away_ from that persons opinion, rather than contributing nothing at all. ... Might as well stay on topic... WM 20 will be loved by the same people who usually love WWE PPV's. Not a bold prediction, but it will hold water down the line when the event is over and people are who rave are raving about it. Do I think it will be a _bad_ show? Nah, I'll give Vince enough credit to say he won't screw this up... even though I gave him that same credit before RAW X and that bombed miserably. I don't think it will be the blow-away show people say it will be, though. But again, that's the usual bunch overrating things - the same people who tend not to give detailed analysis...

The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

The Las Vegas episode was okay at best "Okay at best"? It was "Okay at worst" - the main henchman should have been the fucking big bad for (a) year; he was bringing the dickery in spades. The GvE guy was also nice and sleazy and sorta reminded me of Harland Mathers. Gunn was fun and him and Fred at the blackjack table was fun-ny. Fred in a showgirl outfit was actually a lil bit spanktacular, and apathetic Angel ruled - but not as much as "well, it's not like I was invited to the wedding reception... funny story" vegas-hot-shot Angel. It also put a focus on Angel's destiny which would come into play later on in the season. Fred's explanation of Lorne vanishing is classic.

Frodo and Sam lying on the rock with lava floating around them (journey ended) is in contrast to the beginning of the film with Smeagol and Deagol in the boat fishing (journey began).

There needs to be a course taught on giving explanations on matches - cause it's hilarious seeing people write-up a sentence (that's not even a full sentence) and then expect that to be sufficient. Does anyone know what "in-depth" means? Or is the Kiddie Pool good enough? Even the people complaining about no explanations suck at giving them. Here's an idea - GO BACK AND WATCH THE SHOW!

The OAO Return of The King thread

I loved it. This was the most satisfying film-going experience I've had in my short, 21 year-long life. It was like a 12 course meal or a Christmas Dinner that left time at the end for a cup of tea and some pie. It felt like lying in bed after coming in from the the rain where you let the warmth of a blanket take over you. I wasn't blown away by anything - not the battle scenes, not the acting, not the CGI - as it all blended into one woven tapestry. My problems with Two Towers were solved here. The flow was much smoother and the transitions Jackson used to move from each story was perfect. The editing, which I'm not close to being knowledgable about but still had problems with in TT, was much better here. The battles in ROTK gave the battle for Helms deep and the tribulations of Rohan meaning, and the things established in TT paid off well. It's a shame Jackson cut out some significant parts in TT which he left in the Extended Edition, as it helped me - someone who has not read the books - get to know the characters and their motivations a bit more.

    Alright, What the Fuck

Yeah, but that's different. I still fail to see any problem with this. The problem is the WWE has a history of forgetting about Benoit. His return in 02, for example, they could have made it special - they didn't. Then once the Austin angle fell through they had nothing for him. The jobbed him in the curtain jerker against the dudleys. After RR03 they put him up with Rhyno, teased a split, then finally split them with no explanation as to why, and then the blow-off match was on smackdown with no hype or fanfare. THEY_DON'T_CARE_ABOUT_BENOIT. They don't put the time and effort into thinking up a return for him, they don't put the time and effort into thinking up a way to keep him in the main event picture after a rather successful match with Kurt Angle, and they will ultimately forget about him here because they don't feel he's worth the investment.

I'd hate to turn this into an Angel discussion, but I was watching the Las Vegas episode last night, and that show gets better after each viewing. The Cordy stuff sucked though, as usual.

    Smackdown Spoilers for 12/18/03

    4. Benoit v Palumbo Nunzio and Stamboli are sent to the back. Benoit is getting beat up for the beginning for awhile but the he hits the crossface and Palumbo reaches the ropes. Hits the 3 Germans and then the diving headbutt but Palumbo kicks out. He ends up winning with the crossface. Poor Benoit. Also post match sees FBI all out and beat down on Benoit with 2 superkicks by Palumbo. Good Pop for Benoit before the match and after the match he was still in the ring and holding the back of his head for a good 5 minutes. FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
  25. RavishingRickRudo

    Alright, What the Fuck

If you think about it, they're pretty much recycling the Lesnar angle from earlier this year for Benoit. Wow, welcome to last week where this was already established. If, after the RR, Benoit is still treated like shit, then I may see your viewpoint; Until then, I still see this as a mere placeholder match, while they get the Benoit plan in action. It's already happened before - infact, it happened last year. After the RR match they had Benoit in limbo where he didn't really *do* anything for, oh I dunno, 6 FUCKING MONTHS!
