Really, really bad comparison. Sometimes you have a time where you need everybody to fight for the survival of the country. That was WWII. It sure wasn't this. I saw Strikes Back and wound up leaving early, succumbing to the huge abuse of way too many pot jokes that I just didn't find funny. Which is kind of sad, because a lot of people seem to think these movies are good. Appearantly, even Conservative Brigade member kkk up there. =b However, when I saw these guys on "I Love The 90s" together I figured they were gearing up to be doing something again.

How long have you lived here? I've lived here for all 22 years, and it's always been like that even here in pricey wine country where the cost of living is phenomenal. That's why it never bothers me. Perhaps if you've only been living here a few years you notice it more. Agreed. That's a pretty unfair statement because Soccer does not really have a presence on the national stage in the US, but the Mexico teams tend to have a lot of popular players. I probably wouldn't have thought anything about that except that I rooted for another country against the US in the Olympics recently because I liked one of the athletes. But with Soccer it's especially true. I think before it'll get to that point more people will be paying attention. Someone will get elected and put a plan into effect. People won't like it and that political career will be short, but once someone's addressed the fact that there's an elephant in the room people will be able to accept that something's got to be done about it. And thus I don't really think it'll keep centralizing in Cali. I see it in Nevada, and I'm sure it's in surrounding states, too. Now that I think about it, I never saw anything like that in Washington, but again, I'm so immune to it anymore having lived here for so long that it's presence and absence isn't really discernable anymore. Although it was a big city in the middle of convention time, so maybe it wasn't a fair sampling.

They're slow because people don't upload as fast as they download, and the people who are sharing files can't send real fast especially if they have popular stuff and get hammered. As for making a theft thread, I try and actively discourage piracy around here with sneering remarks and a lack of help towards those who want to do it. My opinion is, if you can't figure it out how to do it yourself, you don't fucking deserve it and need to sit down and shut up. It's not exactly like it's 1994 anymore.

Eh, I don't know, but I doubt it. It's not like we're the only state where they're at, but we are the gateway state and we have a lot of agricultural industry that doesn't mind hiring under-the-table. Eventually someone will start getting serious about it and they'll start spreading out more.

Well, the shards of racism are pretty much all over the spectrum at this point (hello, Mr. Byrd) so I don't really think so. I don't even know if they're so much a bogeyman, they're a special interest. I just wish they were a special interest with as little influence as possible. Sorry, once you bring Jesus into legislative and political issues, you've lost your credibility with me. There's simply no place to make law based on the Bible or the teachings of God. Good law or bad law, you need better reasons than that. Fine. How's this an idea to allow states whether they want civil unions or not: If you want to have heterosexual marriages, you have to support civil unions, too. If you don't want to support civil unions, than you have to drop support for hetero marriage, too. This keeps things equal and non-discriminatory while still leaving an option for whoever is just that damn desperate to make sure there ain't no civil unions goin' on round here. And if there is a state foolish enough to do that, and hetero couples want to keep getting married (as I'm sure they do), they can do what you said and move into another state. I trust the courts to make decisions that will further America's ideals better than a nation of people who decided that "The Apprentice" was good television.

I disagree strongly. When your concerns are based on the Bible, they're no longer "definite" or even "logical." The religious right is an anchor that makes the Republicans look like a bunch of extremists. They shouldn't even be taken seriously except for the large number of people who don't agree with their views but enjoy getting their votes. This relationship is a product of both a two-party system and the constant concessions and reachouts for the religious votes. They've thrown fits before about leaving to form their own party, and I hope they eventually will. Not because it gives us some edge, but because it would make them completely irrelevant in national politics, and I would feel a lot better about the state of America once THAT happens. They are a black eye on the GOP as much as the anti-war crowd is a black eye on the Dems. Arguably, though, the anti-war crowd is usually either Green or Independent and doesn't like to vote for Dems because of Republicrats or whatever the catchword for "both parties are equally corrupt to me" is this week. You don't understand that Judges are around to make decisions that the people may not agree with if put up to a vote. You realize that was why they were founded, to keep the ideals of the country on track. Judges aren't supposed to be beholden to the sheep of the country. That's why you don't choose your judges on your ballots (or at least, not all your judges.) They shouldn't be having to satisfy whoever voted for them, but remain independent. And when a Judge declared the California marriages illegal, you didn't see me shouting about judicial activism. That's because I know these things already.

You don't seem to understand that the "universal definition" has changed over the years, and that courts have been fundamental in shaping that change. Either that or you refuse to accept it. Sure. Of course. Heck, go ahead and say that "anybody who votes for Bush hates fags." You know you want to. I don't think he's going that far, but I do think it's pretty obvious we're going for the Jesus Vote here with these constant initiatives. Bush is well aware that if he can get a big majority of evangelicals, the rest doesn't matter. This strategy was even planned out in an episode of Frontline. "It's like they realized, 'My God, you can get to the White House with just the evangelical vote!'" One thing I wish we could do more in this thread is seperate gay marriage and civil unions when debating. While gay marriage isn't very accepted in America, civil unions are, and this bill threatens that. For that reason, I see it as a nod to the religious vote. Again, another reason why I wish the GOP would finally shake this monkey off their back.

He's said that if he "knew the facts", that Kerry shot a single Viet Cong in the back, that he wouldn't have wrotten Kerry up for the medal. But in 1996 he flew out to defend Kerry's action in regards to getting the award for shooting a Viet Cong in the back. So, if Elliott didn't know that was the circumstances under which the award was given, then why did he defend it in 1996? He clearly was aware of what was going on. And then, as late as 2003, he defended it still.

x 3. Like I said, over 90% of them are civilized and police officers tell you that bikes belong on roads before they belong on sidewalks so I don't see the problem. Yeah, people who don't pay attention can't roar along through city streets at maniacal speeds, but in San Francisco that's almost like a little gift of heaven for once instead of a curse.

Until the economic decision improves, I remain cynical. The illegals aren't really that strong an issue to me. I think there's only really one solution to that problem, that the middle ground he was proposing was kind of dumb. He's garage sale'ing a lot of crap but at most that's just a once-in-a-lifetime ding against the huge debt.

That does it. I'm tired of half-assed debunks of military documents by saying "Oh, well Kerry probably wrote it." WHERE IS THE PROOF that he's been writing everything under the sun that contradicts what SwifVets said? I know it's been said he requested a purple heart but that doesn't explain all the others.

That would certianly make the news fast, and would hurt the economy, the latter being the reason why that would never happen. The point hasn't been that we should somehow deport California's illegal immigrants. There's way too many of them for that to ever be feasible. The point is to make life tough on them rather than bend to them in ways like this, so that hopefully they want to go back and do it right.
