Is it really worth hurting people over?
Jobber of the Week replied to Downhome's topic in Current Events
Then they aren't really interested in peace and I join you in deriding them. Well, I doubt he has the numbers to back that kind of claim up, and NY is a town that deals with sports riots from time to time (they have to with that many teams) so I'm sure they're prepared for any political one. False. This is the far-left, starting with the Michael Moores and going up to the anarchist-socialist types. -
Is it really worth hurting people over?

That's because the RNC draws out more than just anarchists, but their favorite neighbor groups, too. Republicans tend to trust corporations, drawing the ANTI-KKKAPITALISM THOSE CROOKED FATCAT THIEVES!~````1 people out of the woodowork. Their environmental policies and foreign aid policies also tend to draw out kooks, assuming the kooks aren't too busy sitting in a tree or playing human shield around a bunch of Palestinians. -
I was kind of hoping nobody would do that. Which makes it all the more deperessing that it was you who did.

Is it really worth hurting people over?
Jobber of the Week replied to Downhome's topic in Current Events
The people who go as far as to hurting people are the extremist anarchist types. They were at the DNC, too. Figures I couldn't get my "hey, these people aren't the majority" post out before Mike could get his "these people are representing the majority" post. -
The focus of the show is HHH. HHH=#1 heel. Feuding with HHH does not make you the #1 face on RAW. The focus of HHH's match with Benoit wasn't Benoit, or even HHH, but what Eugene was going to do and the whole "master plan" bit. The big photo the day after Vengeance was Eugene accidentally hitting HHH in the head with a chair. TELL ME again how the focus was about HHH or Benoit and not about Eugene? I'm also going to mention that heels won everything that mattered last night. Kane beat Hardy, Edge (who's been acting an ass for weeks) won his match, JBL beat Taker, Angle beat Eddie, HHH beat Eugene, and Orton beat Benoit. If you had a crowd that reacted to this "normally", it would have been a serious downer of a show. Again, this is BAD BOOKING, and it's good that they're being taken to task for it.

Jericho didn't get booed. Eddie didn't get booed. Undertaker didn't get booed but the match turned into eventual silence as it dragged on too long. You guys have been making it sound like they were shouting This Match Sucks in the main event. Wow. Congratulations, slack-jawed locals in Bumfuck, Alabama or whatever other generic red state will accept whatever slop is thrown at them by Vince.

Here's my thing. When someone talks about taxing the rich, someone else complains that they pay too much already, shouldn't have to pay more, etc. For every Paris Hilton that do as little as possible unless it's to serve their ego, there's a guy out there talking about the rich people who really work for it. So here's my idea. Rather than raise taxes on everybody who's rich, let's go after people like her. The rich people who don't work and make income through investments and interest. These people often pay less because they have really accountants providing them loopholes anyway. Instead of this income tax routine, let's go for a national sales tax. That'll encourage saving.

Bill O'Reilly vs Paul Krugman moderated by Russert
Jobber of the Week replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
So all that stuff about the NY Times wanting to destroy the administration, running almost 50 Abu Gharib stories, all these attacks were okay but switch it around and... And that Fidel thing was a total strawman. Perhaps you have watched too much Fox News, and confused the importance of issues like "who had more sources?" with things like "who got really loud?" -
Bill O'Reilly vs Paul Krugman moderated by Russert
Jobber of the Week replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
He was calmer than Moore when O'Reilly did his stupid baiting for a partisan issue. And sadly Moore actually fell for it rather than continuing on his own original subject. I can't believe you guys think O'Reilly "won" when he was doing this stupid shit like going on about how "liberals like to say the President lied" or whatever. He didn't actually have a quote of Krugman saying that the President lied. If he did, it would actually helped his arguement even if he was throwing it in as almost unrelated subject in an effort to move the discussion to something he can attack on. He just associated the guy with those gosh-darn liberals and their big mouths, talking about how the President lied even though he couldn't have lied because everyone around him was too stupid to know the truth. Of course, if you rag on Fox News, that is a PERSONAL ATTACK ON BILL and you will be muted via Bill's shouting. Actually, it was the radio show that has been around since 2002 At least he actually had a quote Of course. Being consistantly loud can counter facts all the time. It's the crutch that every O'Reilly interview depends on. Although, maybe I just need to re-read it and O'Reilly was being completely rational and... ....Nevermind. -
This isn't 2001 anymore.

That would have happened in any town, hate to tell you. Hogan's first singles match in the WWF in a decade? Even if they put him against Austin, it was bound to happen. Especially in the NWO gig, since that was really popular with the marks until Vince made it a humiliating stable with the world watching (which is rather important, since much of WCW's damage of the NWO's draw and aura was done when almost nobody was watching WCW.) The No Way Out crowd was dead except for "Hey Yo" and Hogan holding the microphone before he even said anything. Even in Chicago they were pretty mixed until all the heat was murdered with that long-assed truck bit. Probably more like him and Undertaker, which was so dumb that it actually beat the old early 90s Hogan/Undertaker feud for stupidity. I think the thought of Grandpa being hog-tied to a motorcycle and hauled off by a guy who looks like a retired Hell's Angels member caused many people to tune out until "later" and never return. But it did give us the motorcycle stalling hilarity, and that's gotta be worth some sacrifice.

Bill O'Reilly vs Paul Krugman moderated by Russert
Jobber of the Week replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
Bullshit. If anything, the military funding did it. Technology was driven by the need to use emerging devices to defend ourselves. Which, of course, busts up Bill's whole plan because government work employed people. The internet was a government project to hold information in the event of a terrorist attack. Look at how many people it employed and still does globally. O'Reilly also has no problem slamming the NYT but takes personal offense to any slam on Fox News, and takes low shots while describing Franken. The biggest character assassin in this country? Come on. And the great thing is he almost does some character assassination himself going on about how Franken is vile and whatever else. This is the man who, a year ago, said "all this guy has on me is that I misspoke and called a Polk a Peabody." -

I liked the way O'Reilly suddently went in like it was his own show when Krugman said O'Reilly lied about the tax cuts and job creation. He leans in, starts pointing his finger, and starts sitting up and forward and getting into SIX FOOT FOUR TOWER OF ANGRY with that whole "Don't call me a liar pal because I won't sit here and take it!" bull. -
Remember when killing 30,000 people was genocide?
Jobber of the Week replied to a topic in Current Events
In an age where our liberties are threatened by thocratic regimes that think we ought to follow their religious practices and cultures because cutting off people's hands and killing homsexuals is just peachy, I'm floored to see someone use "Goddless (country name here)" as an insult. -
Poor you. I'm not going anywhere. Pity, huh? Perhaps you would like if these events were taken as more than a carny sport? Current management has been holding back mainstream acceptance by doing stupid shit, talking down to the audience with simplistic good/evil stories, and acting like babies when the media does give them a whiff of attention. I think a lot of guys are making sacrifices but the company is satisfied to be an embarassment and a joke. If we had WCW, I'd just go watch them instead, but wait, we don't. It's been much, much worse. The crowd was almost asleep at last year's Unforgiven, as even guys like Chris Jericho and Christian who can be depended on to keep everyone awake were putting on abortions. And let's not already forget about the Great American Bash, where the "main event" sounded like a rehersal with nary a sound from the crowd except maybe a small pop for the ending tombstone. And then a dead quiet level of silence for the ending "shocker" involving the cement truck. That show could have been held in a bingo hall and you'd never know the difference. Stupid shit like that is why they need to change with the times or die. Already addressed this. Already addressed (see Steiner.) Watch as that 100% Good Guy Benoit action figure beats on the 100% Bad Guy Orton action figure with CHOPPING ACTION~! until the Orton figure does something that immediately makes him 100% Good Guy with all past feuds forgotten about.. You call that entertaining?

This was the most overcrowded, loud event I ever saw. I was there for 10 minutes before leaving unhappy and feeling like my ears could bleed. Plus, it looked nowhere near as good as the past two Axxess events did on TV, and at the Seattle Nordstrom's coffee shop I overheard a woman who went to both 17 and 18 bitch that Axxess sucked compared to the last two times, so I must not be alone. Who did I see before I got out for the sake of my own hearing? FBI and A-Train. Yawn.

Too bad many of them are being booked badly. Do you forget that the REALLY BAD reaction in wrestling is silence? That wasn't happening here, people were cheering for who they wanted to cheer for (which is something the company has long encouraged, even after the Goldberg/Rock fiasco they had a promo the next night where they were repeating that "You can cheer for whoever you want to cheer for" jazz.) And again, it's not like the entire night was a Goldberg/Lesnar affair. People got pops, just not the way it was booked. How do you know that someone in a dead-end feud like the baby angle or a stupid gimmick like Eugene doesn't mind the crowd saying what they already know, that things need change? Here's my ultimate rebuttal to that: Scott Steiner. Steiner got thrown into the main event immediately and was booed for two and a half months from the moment the bell first rang. He was promptly moved down to Test level and has now been forgotten about completely. You think if the crowd just swallowed the crap they had been given and instead just didn't buy a shirt that night that would have happened? No. They may have panicked and changed shirt designs but they wouldn't know that people don't like seeing Steiner in that spot on the card, or Rock as a grandma-kissing babyface. Or whatever. That's already happening. And instead they just "change directions" again, and we get stuff like the Diva Search. An empty seat doesn't tell anyone who people specifically want to see and who people don't want to see. A guy getting Steiner heat is clearly not what the crowd wants to see. Especially if there's other guys (like Angle) that the crowd does want to go and see. I don't care for f'n Goldberg, but I still went to No Way Out because I wanted to see Eddie and his title win. Just because I shouted "You suck" at Goldberg as he walked down the aisle directly in front of me to his reserved chair doesn't mean I hated the whole show. It means I don't like Goldberg. And that's why I don't own Goldberg tees. But I bet my lack of buying a Goldberg tee means anything to these guys. A building like MSG chasing him out of town does.

People cheered. They cheered other guys. Angle got plenty of cheers. Orton got big pops. They weren't booing EVERYTHING. They were taking a huge shit on the booking, and one that I think is well deserved. That doesn't change a damn thing about the booking. People left in droves when HHH was squashing everyone with potential, and didn't change anything. Then Benoit went over HHH, and got pops and pops and pops for months. And then things changed. People left in droves when Vince was pushing anything and everything to the main event and WCW had the NWO. Then people liked Austin because he was a bad guy, because he didn't respect anything, and Vince was smart enough for a brief moment to know how to exploit it. It doesn't change until the crowd turns on Hart and cheers on Austin. It doesn't change until the crowd turns on Rock and cheers on Hogan. It doesn't change until the crowd turns on Goldberg and cheers on Chris Jericho. That "stop buying stuff" excuse is the same bullshit Vince McMahon spews. Which is ironic, since I'm starting to believe more and more that he's part of the problem, which is partly why I like seeing the company fail.
-
Fuck you. I don't think anyone was shitting on the wrestlers so much as the booking. Besides, night like tonight are a critical element to the return of the cool heel. Since 2002 McMahon has been feeding us elementry good/evil bullshit like he did in the Hulk Hogan era. This is why he never allows Rock to get cheered for being a bad guy anymore. This is why when crowds cheer a guy like Hollywood Hogan or the original cocky heel character of The Rock when it returned in 2003, it has to be immediately stopped and the person getting cheered must start kissing babies and helping little old ladies across the street. I'm glad people cheered the guy who played mindfuck with the retard. McMahon has forgotten that most of us, if given the chance, would mindfuck the retard ourselves, and that's why we would encourage the guy who did it if given the oppertunity to cheer or boo him.
-
I actually enjoy this, but then again, I also encourage the crowd to do just this at every show I can go to. Then again, I find great enjoyment and humor from watching WWE fail. Your mileage may vary.

So much for that whole "superior Canadian school system" bullshit, eh?

Tax Burden Shifts to the Middle
Jobber of the Week replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
It's all Reagan's fault. Deficit spending will do that to ya. -
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Aug12.html So there we go. Even the CBO says that Bush's tax cuts have shifted the load of taxes to the middle class. Are some of you dweebs (you know who you are) still going to argue that the rich are paying too much in taxes?

Comparing 1 20:00 Match to 2 Hours is a little lop sided. Doesn't matter. I can't believe I'm hearing people HERE complain about it. This is good. This is a sign that people aren't happy. Things won't change until crowds start completely shitting on entire shows from start to finish and stop showing up at future ones.
-
Also, what's wrong with trying to turn the crowd into a complete 180 of what the bookers want? I remember 2002's Summerslam, and people bitching because the crowd had the nerve to BOO ROCK. Oh my god how EVIL they were. Shit. I say, if you can turn the building against the bookers' intentions, I salute you. I think people really ought to put more effort into making the show a bomb.
