I suspect it was because Gore had that midget troll travelling around with him saying that movie studios needed censorship and regulation. Looking at Eisner's other contributions (Florida Republican congressperson, SoCal Demo congressperson [which MECHA ties like our old friend Cruz], etc, I suspect Eisner just throws a little handy donation out to whoever would be better for business. Now, when it comes to buying congresspeople through lobbying (witness some of the more crazy proposals on countering piracy that's resulted through that) they're a lot more blatant.

What are the causes of prisoner abuse in Iraq?
Jobber of the Week replied to C Dubya 04's topic in Current Events
Oh goodie. For someone who ought to understand this stuff, I can't tell if you're ignorant or disgusting. Here's my question to you: If we can't offer safety and POW rights to our prisoners of war, then what is the incentive for anyone to offer a bloodless surrender? -

Have some respect for your country. Your fathers and forefathers fought wars with the whole country at stake, and they didn't resort to human pyramids and involuntary assraping to do it. The reason for treaties like Geneva is because once one country starts misbehaving, unless everyone sticks to the plan (like we ought to) then it just goes downhill from there with each side trying to trump one another in how much they can embarass and humiliate the other. And then we're not far from heads on pikes. -
Selig declares Oakland needs new park
Jobber of the Week replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in Sports
I don't mind it so much as long as the city gets reimbursed through a share of ticket sales or whatever. Then it's more like borrowing instead of just taking a hit for your damn sports team. Cities here don't have as much money as they did previously though because the state is in so much debt and crisis that cities aren't seeing as much. Oakland needs police and fire more than it needs a new stadium. -
Sorry Loss, but Flair has been rubbing elbows with management since the time that Crockett Jr bought him and buddies private planes to fly from event to event for no reason. He's enjoyed the fruits of being close with the boss probably before that even. So he wasn't booking himself on top repeatedly? Fine, I don't think HHH really booked his own matches either. He probably complained if he didn't like a finish, but if he was really changing his own finishes around we'd have known it (like we found out each time Goldberg whined to have a match changed.) So perhaps while Flair wasn't booking himself to be godly, neither was HHH, I think. However, both guys enjoy(ed) being close to those at the top and getting job perks for it. Therefore, the HHH/Flair comparison isn't that far off.

Hi. We're the United States. We don't act like total barbarians and we still manage to win, too. Which really gets the goat of all the barbarian states, you know. -

Let's ask ourselves: Everytime we've seen pictures of Americans captured, being dragged around, guns held to their head, etc, has it made us fight LESS? No, actually it makes us mad and want to "get them" even more. -

Also, here's some golden letters that showed up in the OMGBIAS SF Chronicle: Gotta love that second one. Images of torture will make Iraqis SCARED and LESS likely to fight us. In no way could it incite them into violence. -

Oh please. Coulter could move mountains would the incredible force of her hot air. But at least she lends credibility to her own "women are too vicious" comment. -
This NYT Article on Air America Is Brilliant

I don't understand it. There hasn't been enough time for the ratings to be compiled, so it can't be that nobody is listening and everyone is just saying "Fuck it." Everyone on their boards is asking Franken (who's been on for the past three hours) for comments and so far he hasn't said anything. It may make more sense why he timed his thoughts about running for Senate right now, though. But hell, it's not the first time. -
To me it doesn't matter as long as the matches are good. And the matches recently, while a shadow of his 2000 work, are much better than the shallow performances of 02-03. HHH can be as big a political scumbag as he wants as long as the matches are good IMO. So was Ric Flair.

I think as much as we moaned and complained and cried and begged to differ regarding HHH's untouchable status and championship reigns in 02-03, it's actually made it that more impressive when he taps out to the crossface or jobs for Benjamin or what have you. Bitch about the angles he was in (Katie Vick, racism) all you want but the "OMG POPULAR UPPER MIDCARDER SQUASHED IN PRIME OF CAREER" shit actually paid off now that he's doing the job for guys who can actually carry the company in the main event for several years to come (Benoit and Benjamin to name two. I think Booker and RVD would have run way out of gas or appeal if the trigger was pulled for them.) If Goldberg were still employed, the rest of this board, including the ones that thought that Bill was providing something refreshing to the show, would suddently be on my anti-Goldberg bandwagon the moment he decided to campaign to go over Benoit for the belt (and you know he would.) So give him credit for that. HHH may run the business, but I sort of doubt he'll have total control. What he has going against him is that he doesn't have the biological name of McMahon, and Shane does. And I think it's pretty clear to any casual WWE observer that Vince sees the company as a serious heritage father-to-son sort of deal since the company's roots can be traced all the way up to Jess McMahon running programs in MSG. Remember that WM20 opening production with the baby? Exactly. I forsee HHH being involved in the business until he's near Vince's age, though I think if he DOES get control then it'll just be more of the same as you see under Vince. He has that interest in bodybuilders who worship themselves and pushes based on physiques won't be all that uncommon. He'd probably leave room for technical matches, though. I imagine Steph will get out of the business once Vince is no longer with us. She will want her share of money/stock/etc of course, but I'll be shocked if she's booking or touring around with the crew. I always figured she was involved on-camera simply because Vince was trying to get as much of his family involved as possible. She seemed so shy and not ready for TV when she first appeared, it certainly seemed a possiblity that she was just simply giving into pressure.

Owned. At least Jeter showed his ass off more to end the game. *I* think Anglesault actually deserves his bitching thread back after this game.

What the hell was that pitch?

Heeeeeeeey, I just turned on channel 6 (forgot I can actually get KICU in the first place. Go cable, I guess) to see the Yankees striking out and hitting fouls when the game's tied. Good timing. Doesn't hurt that it's a local team. Go Oakland.

The family, friends, and neighbors of that woman in all these picutres are possibly the dumbest since the Marin County Taliban's parents: Sources: http://dailytelegraph.news.com.au/story.js...storyid=1302907 http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2004050425/

It's not just religion, it's politics, too. There's peaceful practicing Muslims both here and there but we don't have as many radical violent Muslims. Why? Because our government does ramble on about how it's a favor from God to die for whatever cause it is we're fighting today. Despite valiant efforts by Slapnuts to make it sound like Israel just wants to end the bloodshed, I remember some time ago Israel/Palestine talks fell apart over issues as petty as who's religious statues should be on public display in Jerusalem. Priorities tells me that I wouldn't mind seeing some other guy's God in the town square as long as it STOPS THE MURDERING. But no. Neither side would budge on that issue. And that is why I hate theocracies. That's probably not too far from the truth. The good thing is that not everyone raised there likes to live like that.

The WWE Smackdown! Great American Bash Poster

I already expected them to. I still can't believe they're trying to run on the concept of two PPVs a month. This'll be about as unsuccessful as "This Tuesday In Texas." -

Have any of you bought one of those Diva DVDs?
Jobber of the Week replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
You yourself asked what they put on these discs to fill up the time. The simple answer is that it's usually nothing anyone on this board wants to see, since most of it focuses on the women who are more about looks than ring skill. Hopefully we can find a balance between Man of 1,004 stating the obvious while contributing nothing of value, or NikJohns telling people to shut up and gb2gbs while closing threads. -

I think the only guys who really should be fired is Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly. These guys will not get over with any gimmick. Too many resources have been wasted on them and too much time spent marketing them for no reaction. Guys like Rico and Jindrak and Rodney Mack who job and job and job are just filler, but serve a purpose. I might see Kane vs Hardy or Rhyno vs Rico and be able to predict the winner right away and turn my attention away from the TV for the rest of the match, but jobbers provide fan favorites someone to go over in the eyes of marks. By cutting the entire floor of those guys, everyone who's in the midcard is suddently the lowercard, and all there is will be the tight group of talented mat or mic workers who will just feud with each other over and over again and somebody's favorite is going to have to job. Or there has to be a LOT of screwy "sportz entertainment finish" segments each episode. -

No, Storm's skills should not be wasted on rookies they picked up off the street. Put him in OVW where he belongs, with people who have the commitment to get that far, not game show contestants being offered a fat contract with a company that other people bleed and break bones to be a part of. Perhaps Storm could be what breaks the OVW curse of capable but boring wrestlers being called up and breaks out some real gems. -
But they wouldn't have released Bowling then? Eisner donated a grand to George W Bush's campaign in 2000, although he also donated to Clinton in 96. You sure?
