Former "Terrorism Czar" speaks out against Bush
Jobber of the Week replied to Dr. Tyler; Captain America's topic in Current Events
I've read the book. What I'm saying is that Clarke is one of the guys named as a guy who fought terrorism under Clinton who couldn't get Bush to care. This Faux News document quotes him as saying Clinton didn't have a plan at all, to use Mike's words. Republicans will cling onto the Faux document that shouldn't have been released, where Clarke himself says Clinton didn't have plan. Democrats will cling to the Time article the Franken book used as a source for all that which says Clinton's anti-terror policies were effective. In the long run, it really shouldn't matter, since Clinton isn't President anymore. But this guy has suddently become vital new ammo to the "We told you not to go into Iraq" crowd, and the pro-war crowd right away started questioning his loyalty and integrity. So, in effect, it's actually a lot more interesting than the usual "Did Clinton do (x) four years ago?" arguement that always pops up for no reason other than Clinton-Blaming being a GOP pastime. -

By the way, it turns out that FauxNews (and yes, I'm going to go back to calling them FauxNews seriously after this, so you can eat that LOL2004 jazz) shouldn't have posted that transcript. It wasn't meant for the public. Bob Kerrey absolutely bitchslapped them for it on the air, saying they're "occasionally fair & balanced." Go, Bob! -

Clarke had been named by a lot of places, including the best-selling Franken book, as being stuck between a rock and a hard place, wanting to continue some sort of knock-out Clinton policy in the Bush adminsitration, but not being able to because the Bush people didn't want to. See also the reference to the "Operation: Ignore" stuff mentioned in that Franken book. My guess is Clinton DID have a plan, but not as extensive as Franken and so on make it out to be. My guess is that Bush did resist making terror a high priority until 9/11. As for the rest of it, I don't know. I do figure he's doing a lot of ass-kissing in many of these quotes though. You don't criticize the President while you're working for him, because that'll get you fired. You wait until retirement kicks in and talk then. -

No, it returns pretty close to Saddam levels. Actually, if he said we and other nations would stay and share the burden until it's no longer an issue, I wouldn't bitch. That's what I'd like to hear. -
Yup, Israel is as Bad as Palestine about Terrorism

I don't remember anyone saying Israelis are terrorists. -

If you're talking on behalf of the President, you're saying what the President wants you to say. This part is the only one of those which interests me: -

Nice how Fox News chose to be the Clarke hit squad, but I believe testifying under oath is more important than talking to reporters. He just said they got "substantial funding" in reaction to the USS Cole bombing. I'm so sorry. I know it must be so sad to keep hearing how Bush fumbled. Chin up, little guy! -

He's speaking to the 9/11 commission. Probably on all the big news channels right now. -

Well, of course they'd expect that. Isn't that par for the course when anyone tries to generate heat? -

You think people aren't being shot in the head now? You think it's impossible they'll go back to that? I expect the violence in Iraq to jump up to a new standard the minute we leave. Tim Russert asked Bush what kind of plan he has if the Iraqi people reject the government he puts in place for something fundamentalist. He just grinned like an idiot and said he knew that wasn't going to happen. What? It's simple: You put man in charge. You leave. Citizens shoot man left in charge, form more radical government. Life goes downhill. I didn't support going into Iraq, but I support rebuilding it if we do. But I also support more thought being put into the process than what the President showed in that interview bit above. I just have an issue of the rallying cry of the right when negative news comes out of Iraq, which is "WELL AT LEAST IT'S BETTER THAN WHEN SADDAM WAS RUNNING THINGS, HUH?" I just have to look at the circumstances to say "Well, I don't really agree 100% with that" and get the predicted response: Being called a dictator lover. -

Actually, after having watched Angle nearly snap his neck in two and go back to wrestling the next week, I think he's probably too stupid to get that far. It probably went like this: Eric: I'll give you the wrestling equivelant of Baltic Avenue and Marvin Gardens for your Park Place. Angle: OK sure... Where's Baltic on the board again? All these chairshots have mess my memory. Eric: Uh, yeah. -

And then there's still no guessing if it'll happen. I just simply think more nations, especially those so much closer to modern civilization like Israel is, should follow the lead of the United States and not take somebody's land just because you defeated their military. If you're on that kind of level in society, you have no need to extend your borders to include a bunch of poverty-stricken shanty towns. You also have the matter that there's a generation of people growing up in disgusting conditions because of the actions of their predecessors. They don't deserve that and it's certainly not going to inspire them to like Israel. -
I bitched about it earlier. This match was like HHH/Hogan with a bigger list of run-ins. Even the stupid Pedigree-to-catapult spot.

Also, Da Prez is clearly making some waves for himself with this one year later event, so as he continues to do so it's more likely some of these guys come forward if only to offer rebuttal. I imagine the timing of this book was more meant to coincide with the war anniversary than it was the election. -

Ahahaha.. The guy who stepped forward and claimed to have bin-Laden and represent a government yet didn't have enough proof to convince the government, and now a LOL2004 commentator, is a Bush advisor? ahahahahahha... "I don't read the news, I listen to my advisors." ahahaha.. -
I don't mind them as long as they aren't throwing rocks in the windows of the nearest office building to fight big media or big capitalism or whatever the enemy is today.

Yes, I do. As long as you don't consider a kid chucking a rock at an armored tank to be a terrorist. Hey, I said it's a good thing. It'll be a good thing all around when enough time, money, and unfortunately lives are paid to stabilize the region. Assuming, of course, that they don't institute a government similar to the last one. But hey, having your country become Terrorist Haven. That's not good, either. What I said was that Saddam Iraq was SAFER, in my mind, than Terrorist Haven Iraq, but I'd probably live in Terrorist Haven Iraq than Saddam Iraq if I had a choice for the reasons you just mentioned. -
Well, at least Blair got minimal frontpage time, but this has to hurt: http://www.usatoday.com/news/2004-03-18-20...elleymain_x.htm

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but that HHH vs Eddy match was completely an HHH match opposed to an Eddy match, and sucked because of it. They were totally mimmic'ing the Hulk Hogan vs HHH match at Backlash 02. Everything from HHH whipping the other guy so hard that he himself falls over, to the pedigree reversed into a catapult. Good lord, Hunter. We know you're not a big Eddy fan but you don't have to stoop to HOGAN'S level with him!

Don't let stuff like rape rooms and whatnot cloud your view of this war. Most Iraqis never saw those things. What does threaten a lot of Iraqis, every day, is how their country is suddently hot new place for terrorists to convene and blow shit up. Yeah, it's pretty frightening to go to the fruit stand when it could be blown up by a car bomb or stay at the hotel that could be hit by a rocket. Will a democratic Iraq be an improvement for the world, if/when it's accomplished? Yes. Will a democratic Iraq be better than Saddam's Iraq? Yes. Is Iraq, right now, a better place to live than when Saddam was in power? No. In fact, I'd actually say it's worse, because constant terrorist strikes taking lives ARE worse than a dictatorship. -

I hate these statements. No nation is obligated to take over another's land, which is why we don't own Japan. -
