Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania

The fact is that Shawn stepped back so Bret could get what he wanted. If this were five or six years ago, Shawn would be whining that if Bret is going to be on the show, he should get equal TV time etc. I realize we all like to attack Shawn's religious act around here, but it takes a bigger man to accept a demand like that than it does to make one. Shawn doesn't care whether he's in the same room with Bret or not, because he's got other things to live for besides a rivalry with Bret Hart. On the other hand, Bret is still carrying around his ball and chain because if he wasn't he wouldn't have had to make a demand like that in the first place. It has to do with more than titles, screwjobs, etc. It has to do with maturity, who is showing it and who isn't.

Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania

How about Vince not letting it go and using it as a tv angle on a regular basis? Again, Vince is doing it for how he does business. If something worked to get attention once, he'll do it again. That's why we have him on TV so much. That's why we have the KMA club. That's why Hogan keeps coming back. That's why Shane is going through tables when he's not fighting his first gray hairs, etc. What Vince does on TV is a lot less real and a lot less genuine than what he does off-screen, which is where he and Bret have at least found enough common room to co-exist.

Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania

PS: Since Rudo keeps saying that Vince is obsessed with Montreal and Bret wants his career to be so much more, he certainly never shows it. Bret is still obsessed with his Montreal Moment, just as much as Vince is, because of demands like the one he made which proves that, even in his own mind, he is wrapped tightly around it. I don't think Shawn has "changed" due to Christianity or anything, but I do think he has evolved. He has a family and things are more important to him in life to give a shit about what Bret Hart thinks about him, hence why he doesn't pitch a fit over Bret's demands and withdraws himself from the show. Vince keeps up the 1997 callbacks, yes, but that's because Vince has always operated by taking something that worked once and running it into the ground. I do not know of any excuse for Bret except to say that he's still not over it as much as he thinks he is, and still waving it around like a flag.

Bret Hart confirms he will not be at WrestleMania

Don't give me that bullshit. This is a carny sport. People don't get into this because it's what they were born to do well, they get into it because they want to do it more than something more traditional in life; which is why schools tell their students to not drop their education, job, etc. If you can make a job doing this, as Bret did, then you were one of the lucky ones in the whole industry. But at the end of the day, it's still a business and a fucking carny sport. Vince knows it, Shawn knows it, Flair and all of Bret's other political enemies secretly know it. The reason that Bret looks like an emo-baby in all of this is because if you're THAT closely connected to it and can't see it for what it really is, then you're robbing yourself blind. As they say in Poker, if you look around the table and can't find the guy being taken advantage of, it's you.

They never referenced a stroke. Bret, and all his fanboys on this board, need to realize that while it's unfortunate that his career went the way it did, it's just fucking pro wrestling and greater injustices have happened to better people. Furthermore, Bret needs money like the rest of us do, so I won't count out anything until the show is over.

    The Super pre-SNME Thread

Now that's not true. An astute observer would notice that there is no longer the Mean Street Posse at ringside being vaguely entertaining while everyone gets up from the latest bump.

How do you plan to do that? Do you have an HDTV tuner in your PC or a DVD recorder with component/DVI input?

    The Super pre-SNME Thread

Oh jesus Christ. Guys, stuff can be filmed in 1080i and 720p, the resolutions used by HDTV, without being 16:9. True, to actual use the official term "HD" a program must be in widescreen, but those resolutions will display on an HDTV in pillarboxing if the station chooses to. KGO in San Francisco does this with their local news. It's as pillarboxed as any other local broadcast, but I can count the hair on Pete Wilson's head and the computer graphics/overlays are much more crisp.

    Laptop - Desktop Connection

Yeah, but 802.11g routers can be bought at Best Buy and hooked up to their connection with no problems, at a price that makes their rental fees look crazy. Look around for a sale.

    Universal applications

They have been for a while simply because RISC > CISC, but The Steve made a decision to switch again, so all his followers must make the somewhat-painful transition process. Keep in mind that Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and Nintendo Revolution are ALL using some kind of PowerPC processor in conjunction with IBM, and all three of those video game machines are going to sell more than the Macintosh line does. Apple was obviously concerned that they would become fourth bananna in the eyes of IBM, and lose their input and stroke to Nintendo and Co. Plus, Jobs promised a G5 Powerbook that never came to fruitition because of heat issues, and at his announcement of the switch he kind of acknowledged his embarassment about that. So there's probably an iota of revenge about that too, as the laptop line has plateued for a while.

    Laptop - Desktop Connection

That's ridiculous! You can go wireless with any internet connection by just buying a wireless router. There's absolutely NO reason you should have to pay someone to bring you a router, and pay a monthly fee to have one. Ludicrious. That said, wireless will only work if all your computers have wireless capability, so if you have computers that don't have wi-fi, you'll have to go buy cards for them and open your computer and stick it in an expansion slot. If you're not much of a hardware/upgrade person, this may be intimidating. It also adds to the cost, but is still no excuse for monthly fees. The most work it involves is connecting some cables together, plugging in a box, then going to a web site in your browser to turn on security features. If you have a wireless-enabled computer, you can see if there's any networks recognizable from your location by scanning for networks, but even if any show up they're likely passworded unless the owner is an idiot. There's more idiots than I wish there were in the world, but more and more people are beginning to catch on that encryption is a good thing. If you don't want to pay to get everything on wireless, wired routers exist too, of course. Wireless routers look like wired routers with little broadcast antennas on them, and they have the same ports that wired routers do, so you don't have to buy a wireless card for EVERYTHING, just the stuff you want to use wirelessly. You can hook up your giant borg cube of a PC the traditional way, with a networking cable stretching from the BUTT of the PC to the BUTT of the router. Lastly, keep in mind that wi-fi transmissions use the same frequency as microwave ovens and many other household appliances. So if you go that way and you live in tight quarters or an apartment building or something, the use of these devices by you or people who live near you can make your signal degrade or not work at all.

    Bittorrents

Nobody here has mentioned uTorrent, which is the best client app. Nearly as feature filled as Azureus, lightyears ahead in the memory hog department.

    Start Menu Bar Problems

Late, I know, but if you still have this problem: Right click the empty space, choose close toolbar, done. If that doesn't work, ctrl-alt-del, end all tasks called explorer.exe. Then in Task Manager go to File -> New Task (Run...) and type in explorer.exe and it will reload the desktop and taskbar.

What are some good video editing programs?

Depends on the type/codec of the file. Some editors have an easier time loading up certain videos than others. If you're burning an MPG to put on a VCD like you were talking about in the other thread, the TMPGenc program I reccomended will take care of that. In the wizard there's a checkbox option called Source Range, and it allows you set the beginning and end point of the video that you want to convert to MPG. So you can make a two part or whatever.

    Universal applications

Uh, no. "Universal applications" is Apple's term to describe Mac software that works with the current outgoing PowerPC Macs (G4, G5) and the Intel-CPU Macs that are coming soon. Just because they are using an Intel CPU, does not mean that universal applications can be run on Windows. Mac applications are a completely different type of animal from Windows apps. No DLL libraries, no registry settings, etc. This is about Mac users and the issues of moving from one CPU to another, so that programmers with Intel Macs can make programs that are compatable with the older machines and vice versa. So far, the only programming language that allows you to compile a program once and run the same program on Mac and PC is Java. And Java applications are exceptionally unreliable.

When burning a media file to a VCD

VCDs are a certain format of MPG. If your file is not already an MPG, use the free TMPGenc to convert it.

    Laptop - Desktop Connection

No, and even it did it would be horribly slow if it was not unless it was USB 2.0 or Firewire. You'll be waiting around all day. Just use ethernet. Do you have a router in your home that shares the internet connection amongst all computers or just one computer directly hooked up to the modem?

    Vince sexual offender ?

As has been reported in 1Wrestling and elsewhere, this story grows as it flows, with a paper now saying that Vince has a girlfriend and wants a divorce. Methinks someone was researching their story's subject and wound up accidentally swallowing an angle as fact.

Comments which don't warrant a thread

WWE 24/7 appeared in our area sometime when I wasn't looking in the past month, and... Ugh. Nothing here really interests me. That they spend so much time in 80s stuff and next month promise midgets kind of makes me cringe. $7 a month is too much for what essentially is only good for the ECW section, and I'm guessing corporate egos mean I won't be seeing much of any 96-98 WCW. I think I'll skip it.

WWE notes from Da Meltz on Figure Four Daily

Foley and Hogan have legitimate heat that probably originated earlier in Foley's career, but became exacerbated when Hogan talked about how he works out and is a real athlete, while Foley is a stuntman who "eats cheeseburgers" or something. It was typical Hogan ego-stroking. Then Foley bitched in his book that Hogan has done all he can do in the business and needs to go home. I think Hogan's babyface nostalgia run has run it's course and that his short-lived heel character had more lifespan with WWE audiences, but it doesn't matter how they write the script, because at the end of the day I'll probably miss it all and just watch the match, hoping against hope that I can see Hogan job. (hah!) Match-wise, I'd rather see Foley bump around like a pinball and stick the sock down Hogan's mouth than the typical Hogan VS Generic Heel match, which is probably what we'll get.

    Uhm.. Okay.....

Japan still idolizes Michael Jackson in spite of, uh, everything. I've never really gotten a straight answer of if they know how ruined he is these days or not, but all the girls and everyone else still seem to think he's the same guy he was in Thriller.

    The United States Military

Thank you for helping keep the armed services well stocked with bodies so that I don't have to dodge a draft. In general the USAF has done the best it can in the multitude of shitty situations it's been placed in the past number of years. What it seems that leadership misses is that the military's strongest point is invasion, strike capability, etc. It's weak point is extended ground wars. No military in the world has been able to occupy foreign territory for long periods of time. That and the better-than-thou attitude of those who are enlisted but haven't yet done any heroic deeds to justify that attitude. This seems to happen a lot in the Marines, and I hate to beat on a fresh 17 year old kid who may or may not have given me lip once *cough* , but damnit boy, don't bother me.

    Kurt Angle vs. Christopher Daniels

Angle is/was (probably was, due to injuries) sort of held back in WWE most of the time, I doubt they let him do everything he could have done as a worker. His character is unfortunately cast as gimmicky no matter what side he's on or what's driving him on any particular day, but he still does have charisma. Remember the whole Sherri skit in March? Also, I believe a guy who has amateur experience and goes into pro wrestling will be able to catch on a hell of a lot faster than a guy who just stepped out of a bodybuilding contest and isn't familiar with any form of wrestling. It definitely, definitely helps. You just don't see it too much, and you see a lot more "families" ala Hart and Guererro, but for all the successes we've gotten from that, we've also had some bad ones like Flair's son trying to be a contender in WCW.
