I admit I target Christian organizations a lot, but they're usually the Jerry Falwell style "family value" organizations that play politics. FWIW, I feel these organizations deserve it as they seek power and influence the other organizations don't. But if you think I cross the line sometimes, hey, call me on it.

That would be downright slander, since you named a real person. The problem you're making is that you're basing this arguement as though Jesus, son of God, really did come down to Earth. The problem with this is the very existance of Jesus is purely dependant on your belief in Christianity. This is not a fault of yours, being a Christian pretty much means you believe the events of the Bible to more or less be truth. But faith is faith, and the Bible has no legal legs in this country. Roy Moore found this out recently. I'M NOT COMPARING YOU TO HIM IN ANY WAY, I'm just citing an example as how our government does not recognize the Bible as undeniable truth. There is a world of difference between a movie with a fictitious president and a book with a real person. Right, but there's a difference between complaining about it, protesting it, whatever, and trying to ban sales. SP isn't a fundie. I haven't called him a fundie, I don't think Marney even has called him a fundie though she has taken issues with his stance on gays. SP's problem seems to be that he acts like the world is a battle of Ultimate Good vs Ultimate Evil or something. This is not Sunday School, this is a place for (more or less, excluding comedy threads) serious debate, and that kind of thing can you crapped on.

Before people start discussing what is said about the Hurricane, let me start off by stating that it isn't inconceivable that Wade has something against him, as Helms busted the Torch's nuts for saying he was close to Brian Gewirtz some months back. So I'd take what's written that hasn't already been said with a grain of salt.

Is it labeled a documentary or political commentary or something? If it's not, and it acknowledges itself as fiction, then that's just what it is. Fiction. There was a movie called Deterrance that came out some time ago where Iraq promises to launch nuclear missiles on the U.S. The President (a ficticious President, not sharing the identity of any real life President) drops a nuclear bomb on Baghdad at the end of the film. By your analogy, if this movie came out when the Iraq stuff was heating up you'd get all offended. But you aren't because the movie admits that the events aren't real. That's what's going on here. Are you? I don't think you are. In this case, people are stating cases for the book to be pulled. I'm not going to lump you in with them unless you want to join them, too. No, I'm trying to explain how a straw man works, since there's less debating going on and more accusations of Christian-hating. Supreme Court says "No." http://usinfo.state.gov/products/pubs/pres...ess/press08.htm Besides making distinctions between public and private figures, American courts also have ruled that various kinds of published information are generally immune from libel charges. For example, it is almost impossible for a writer to be found guilty of libel if the writing deals with opinions rather than facts. "Under the First Amendment, there is no such thing as a false idea," the Supreme Court said in a 1974 libel ruling. Religion is simply a matter of opinion. It is not subject to libel laws.

I'm not linking him with fundies, I'm linking him with idiots who build straw men. This is like if we saw a documentary movie re-enacting a real life event, and Morgan Freeman plays the President. I say, "Gee, I don't remember any black Presidents" and then you tell me "YOU DON'T THINK A BLACK MAN SHOULD BE PRESIDENT! YOU ARE SUCH A RACIST!" That is called a straw man. You are twisting the arguement's view to try and make the person making the arguement look bad. Is the book classified as non-fiction and I didn't know it or something? I don't hate Christians, I have a dislike for people who try to preach it for me, and use the Bible to teach hate and violence which I don't think should be it's true purpose. Never have I disliked someone soley because they believe in God. When in the hell did I say that?

If he wants to say he find it offensive, then hey sure. But he's pulling out the word libel, which is a very strong claim when the characters involved all exist as a matter of faith. Also, libel implies that there was intentional attempt to ruin someone's good name. That part gets people confused and sends a lot of libel cases out of court. ...But, the part of Tyler's arguement I simply must disagree with is the strawman he's built: Poster: Hey, maybe this guy's got a right to type this stuff. Poster 2: I don't like it myself, but I don't think it's worthy of totally banning it. Tyler: JESUS HATERS!

In less than 24 hours, over twice as many posts as the David Blaine thread, and three pages. I swear there's something about Jesus Threads in Current Events that causes massive amounts of replies. EDIT: I really have nothing to say about the book. The author doesn't sound like he's all there, but to quote James Carville, "I'm not going to be one of those right-wingers who stands around boycotting a movie they've never seen."

http://ftp.interplay.com/pub/movies/fboscy...yrustrailer.mpg (left click, then right click & save as the link inside) For those who don't wanna download it: DEY CALL IT DA WASTELAND WASTA' LAND WASTA' LIFE WATSA' TIME BUT DA PEOPLE WHO SEE IT DAT WAY.. DEY JUSS' GIVIN UP. What happened to this franchise anyway? It all went downhill after Fallout 2.

Hogan is one of those things that works only when he has the right opponent. "20 years in the making" or not, the crowd at Seattle was sitting on their hands for Hulk vs Vince, only going "OHHHH!" when something like the ladder came out. During the popular "bloody Vince rises up from under the mat" shot, the guy directly behind me complimented the camerawork for that shot. Which is to say nobody gave a shit about that match. And they weren't like tired or anything either, because people popped big for Austin vs Rock right after.

I agree to an extent, I have watched perfectly blah normal Raws that become bad Raws by reading the one & only thread. But I doubt I could watchng something especially stupid alone like the Hogan motorcycle bit or this stupid Test angle without busting out in laughter.
-
Yeah, the guy who plays the brother of a character called The Undertaker and tells people to burn in hell is an awfully religious dude. Right. Then again, I guess weirder things have happened.

SmackDown: Nobody knows, but the angles are being written by the WWE Creative team themselves now instead of Yukes. WM XIX: Perform a goal like destroy a car or knock a guy off a platform or make someone bleed. Actual wrestling is purely secondary. After doing enough tedious tasks you'll supposedly get to Mania or something. I never got that far so I don't know what happens. Raw 2: The idea is to start at the first Raw of May and get to WrestleMania. Each month consists of one Raw, one SmackDown, and a PPV. You have a popularity rating and a stamina meter which seems to carry over somehow into match stamina. For instance, I ambushed Rey Mysterio as Shannon Moore and beat the living hell out of him, which did a little damage to my stamina but nearly wiped his out. I defeated him pretty easily in the ring.

Never played DJV so I can't tell you.

Holy shit the amount of control over entrances and stage and fog and shit is incredible. Some evidence will be posted of this when I can.

I've rented XIX and Raw 2. XIX had some great matches to watch, but the overall presentation just wasn't that greate. I saw guys no-selling finishers for god sakes. Raw 2 continues it's standard of AMAZING depth of CAW and mediocore gameplay. Maybe when I get used to the controls it will improve, but at least the presentations have gone up as there's not just one goddamn set anymore. SD seems to have all the fixins. I watched IGN's video of an Elimination Chamber match and it actually looks fun.

Okay, I know I'm the chief troll in boycott threads. They don't work, yadda yadda yadda. But I've become so fed up with this company I'm considering organizing one myself. In A Nutshell: I'm planning to avoid watching/buying, or anything related to WWE (other than posting here) should Goldberg win the title at Unforgiven. But... What if we all did this? Basically, what it boils down to is this: Watch RAW/SmackDown if you want. If you can withstand the torture of seeing the two apes with the big winning streaks and equally big egos running around with the belts. Obviously, boycotting the television show does very little as I'm sure none of us here are working for Nielsen and the others who organize the ratings every week. But don't buy shirts. Don't buy the video games, even though they've been shipping some new ones recently. Don't go to the show. Don't buy the PPVs. Just refuse to give them your money or (if you can find something else to do) your attention until Goldberg jobs the title to somebody else. I'm thinking of writing a feedback email to WWE.com the night of every televised Raw show or PPV to WWE.com with the same letter about why I'm writing, what I'm doing, why Goldberg shouldn't have that belt and should put it on anybody else. Think about it. Together, through peaceful harassment, we can make this joke's title career a short one.

Hulk Hogan meets with the Jarretts
Jobber of the Week replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in TNA Wrestling
I think this would be good. Hogan would drive Russo out of the company, and there's only so long that Hogan can keep going and he'd leave shortly after. -
Great. Now if only a better than crap-ass verison of the current Evolution theme was around. Oh well.
-
Post it and I'll give it a shot, thanks.
-
Eagan, if you can, can you rip the bastardized Matt Hardy song? It has the keyboard and whooooop sound effects at the beginning that I can add to the Monster Magnet song to make a proper theme for the game. Thanks.

Theme song of the day - Lance Storm (current)
Jobber of the Week replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
I want to thank Eagan again for putting this up here. I just put it in my Raw 2 game as Lance's new song. LOL. -
Ah, so John Cena's theme really doesn't repeat as often as it does in WM XX. Interesting.
-
Am I the only one who would look at the front and assume it was a House Of Blues shirt? Because that's what it looks like.
-
Played it. Blows so hard. Not like the latest WWE games blow, but like how the last Batman game blows or thereabouts. If I bought it, there would have been a new thread here with nasty statements like "DECAYING HAM SANDWICH!" to express my anger. Viewtiful Joe interests me with it's Power Ranger looking themes, but the gameplay just isn't my thing. I've never cared for R.E., so I guess Killer 7 is all I got left to look forward to.

Wow. I expected you guys to know this already. I mean, you're the smart marks, etc. Some kind of know it alls you are.
