    TSM Board DRAWMUH~! 2005

I think that is unnecessary... I do a few things on the forums on a weekly basis and some on a daily basic such as update the top of the forums for donations. I added my self back to the admin group, because I felt like it. HEEL TURN <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought the best part of his promo was the part where he said that he thinks he should be an Admin because he does almost nothing for this board, but does it on a fairly regular basis.

    Upgrade Feedback & Errors

Are banned accounts still disabled but just moved into the Members group, or did a bunch of people get invites back, or what? Because it seems the Banned group dissolved, which was a nice way of figuring out what was going on if nothing else.

Guantanamo Bay “has become the gulag of our time"

Personally, I think the content in this link will clear up a lot of the bullshit that I've seen in this thread. But, Justice, the whole "the media only goes one way" arguement kind of doesn't hold water. Yeah, you don't see any news stories about the Iraqis that AREN'T taking up arms and setting off bombs. There's no news value in that. Kind of reminds me of the Daily Show's coverage of DeLay's support event and all the speakers bashing the media. Jon Stewart's comment was "Yup, you NEVER read any news stories about the laws that Tom DeLay DOESN'T break, do you?" followed by a list on the side of the screen of such unbroken laws (which included incest and first and third degree murder.) Saying that non-news doesn't appear in the news is, well, kind of obvious.

Trying to buld HD or near...HD system

And how do you watch NBC, ABC, etc? I'd be more concerned with watching major network programming in HD than whatever old monster movie Voom dished up.

Macintosh Computers switching to Intel chips

It'll give a huge boost in horsepower to the PowerBook line of laptops, and less for the desktop machines like iMac or Power Mac (assuming they keep that name for their high-end machine.) In fact, I expect that the Intel Macs will initially be slower than the big 2.5Ghz G5s, at least as they are. Intel is going to go BIG on dual-core processing next year, which is a smart move, but I don't know how many chips they'll be able to pump out, and whether the supply will be enough for both Apple and Intel's usual audience. The biggest stumbling block is software. All the newest, biggest programs will need to be worked on re-made for the new CPU because while it can emulate an old Mac, it emulates a REAL old Mac (like 1999-2000) because that's as fast as they can make it run. They're getting this out of the way now by getting the new programming tools into everyone's hands. The problem is programs for the Mac owners who own the outgoing CPU. When this happened before, third-party companies quickly decided to abandon the old 6800 chips once most of Apple's audience had moved to a PowerPC machine. As an owner of a 6800 Mac, when I left it in 1996 or 97 it could still run all the new software Apple was making for it (like System Updates and QuickTime), but I quit using it because I couldn't run any non-Apple software because the other companies quickly abandoned the old users.

Macintosh Computers switching to Intel chips

When they last did this, it didn't take long before people running the old CPUs were told when starting up programs that they had to buy a new one because developers didn't want to support the old platform. This sucks for anyone who's bought a Mac in the last 6-12 months, and will suck for anyone who buys anything other than a high-end G5 if any model for the forseeable future. Market prediction is that sales ought to slump and then fall through the floor, because nobody wants to buy into a technology that already has it's replacement roadmapped and set to appear on shelves partially by next year. This is good for Mac owners of the future. This is kind of alarming for Mac owners of the present. This is a serious kick in the shorts for NEW Mac owners of the present.

Trying to buld HD or near...HD system

Okay, well, there's no magic that makes DVDs look HD quality. They can't look any better than what's been processed onto the disc, so blowing it up to 1080 isn't going to help. A very nice quality DVD player hooked up to your TV is the best you can do. I don't trust these "turn your DVD videos into HDTV" shit. That's like saying "Turn your shiny rock into a diamond."

    DVD/Divx Players

This site should help: http://www.videohelp.com Choose DVD Players from the left and filter it down to the ones that have the features you want and see the ratings/reviews for the list. What I did, since I needed a player immediately, was write down the model names of everything at the local brick & mortar store and then look them up there, but if you're ordering online you can probably find a more feature-packed product or better video quality by hunting.

    CPU Randomly Shutting Down

Really sounds like some kind of trojan to me. Either that, or you haven't been keeping up with Windows Update, which is really bad behavior because you probably got hit with something you could have stopped then. Anyway, use the usual tools to clean it out, but I'd be wary of entering passwords and credit card numbers into any computer I suspect of being compromised. You may just want to wipe and reinstall Windows on an erased hard drive.

    Converting AVI/MPEG to DVD

Look for a program called Nandub. You can open up a video file and then from File, choose Save WAV. From there, you can use whatever program you like to convert the gigantic WAV to a smaller MP3.
  13. Jobber of the Week

    Converting AVI/MPEG to DVD

Jobber's method: Download a program called GordianKnot (do a Google, it's hosted on SourceForge.) Get the "rip pack." It includes a program called DVD Decrypter. Open DVD Decrypter. Use IFO mode, select the file with the long running time and the chapters you want to rip (if you'll do TV shows, which is why I say this, in the case of a movie, it's likely all tracks.) Rip those chapters to any special folder for them. Download a program called DGIndex (or it might be included, I forgot) Use that program to open the first available file listed in that folder the rest (if any) should appear in a dialog box. Push OK. If the video is film, look for a video option called Force FILM and use that. If it's interlaced video (TV), don't check that In Audio, check Demux All Tracks. In File, save project, call it something like index. It'll save a big AC3 audio file Open BeSweetGUI, another app that comes with GordianKnot. For input, select your AC3 file. For output, set an MP3. In the profile box to the right, chose MP3 for AVI. If your AC3's title has something like "DELAY 6ms" then you'll have to check the Delay box and enter that in too. Delays could be positive or negative numbers, but if it's 0ms then no need to worry. Click AC3 to MP3 and let it convert. Open GordianKnot. Open that Index file you made earlier with it. A window will open previewing your video, back on the main window, select your MP3 in the audio box, select Divx or XVid in the upper right and then set a target file size below it. Of course, the bigger the file, the better looking the video. I use 170MB target for 20 minute programs, myself. Remember this final file size will include the size of your audio file. Under the Resolution tab, you can resize your video or eliminate any black bars if you want. Back on the window with the video preview, choose save & encode. You'll get an options window. if you chose to resize your box, use Neutral Bicubic for the resize option in the upper right corner. Below that is deinterlace. If your video is interlaced (again, TV source) then I like to use TomsMoComp. Save, give it a name, then sit back as it uses VirtualDubMod a few times to do two passes then attatch the audio file.

    Whose got the more "Flair"

Well, if you believe in Bret Hart's philosophy regarding Ric Flair, this would make Christian the greatest Flair there is. Anyway, I'll say Angle. Just like Flair, even if he's not in the main event, he's always "up there" no matter who he's fighting. Angle and Flair also both sometimes go through these weird character turns that make their fans want to cry. "I want to fuck your wife" is the new "Cross-dressin' Flair." The funny thing about that comparison is, if it was FLAIR and Booker T, Flair could do the wife-fucking promo and turn it into absolute gold. With Angle, it's just too odd.

Trying to buld HD or near...HD system

Hold on HD DVD until the format wars are over with. Take it from a guy who bought a LaserDisc player back when, okay? I don't know if your "HD built in" tv means there's a tuner in there or not, but unless you plan to get signals off the air it's not really important because both cable and dish use set top boxes. But to answer your real question... HDMI can handle sound, provided all your hardware supports HDMI, which is only somewhat likely. HDMI can basically be described as "DVI + Audio" as it has extra bandwith available. Because of that, HDMI cables and inputs are compatable with DVI ones if you go and buy a small converter to put at the end. HDMI doesn't really provide any kind of picture quality increase or anything other than sound going over the same wire as the video. If you already have some sort of digial coax/optical sound setup you want to retain, than HDMI doesn't really hold any advantages over DVI, although it's nice when your TV and your equipment use the same plug.

ECW One Night Stand matches announced

I think we'll only know once the show airs who's really in charge. I don't really see Creative taking it away from Tommy Dreamer because of ticket sales. The prices were more simply a mistake calcualted by availability, I think, than actual demand. In other words, ticket prices were boosted because the building couldn't hold that many, not because of they thought people would pay that much. There's simply no way WWE would be braindead enough to think that people would pay $400 a seat to the likes of Sandman and Psychosis. First of all, these guys aren't even regular WWE workers, which means that in the minds of the office they're not worth anything near that much.

    China VS The Internet

This is a Kristof column from a few days ago that only appeard in my local paper recently, but I thought it was worth posting since everyone seems to be slowly losing their patience with the practices of the Chinese government: As much as Armchair Political Blowhards like to talk bullshit about how guys with blogs can free us from the biases and monopolies of the common media, that's actually what's going on in China right now. Talk about a revolution.

    The 10 Most Harmful Books

#10 made me laugh. On the other hand, check the links at the original page and read their Amazon URLs. If you decide to by Mein Kampf (or, for that matter, these other books you shouldn't even so much as come into contact with), then the conservative group gets a cut. Lastly, the Communist Manifesto is listed as almost TWICE as evil as Hitler (score of 74 to 41.) I refuse to believe that.

    TNA on WGN?

TNA should go for WGN's idea. Going against Raw would kill ratings, IMO. Serious wrestling fans would rather see top-rate talent like Benoit or Jericho being regularly misused instead of seeing lesser talents fill their TV. Casual fans will hear they'll have to stop paying attention to Raw or tape it and choose not to watch. At least with 7-9 CT (8-10 ET) they get an hour to announce and build a main event to convince the people watching to stay on.
