The OAO State of the Union address thread
Jobber of the Week replied to BUTT's topic in Current Events
I got to say, this is worth the price of admission. My favorite part was the part about how we don't go into a country and force our way of democracy on them. What a great comedian this man is. The current stuff is some real high-grade "They hate us for our freedom" bullshit. Terrorists setting off carbombs because they're so jealous of this democracy, not that the largest deployment of US troops in the middle east ever is sitting RIGHT THERE. Also, remember folks, 9/11 happened because Osama was mad that we can drive SUVs and eat at Burger King. -

I think if they got the right guys and put all egos aside, they could draw one mother of a crowd Unfortunately, I don't think all the fences could be mended in two years. -
Eh? What I'm saying is that the UN is limited to peacekeeping, but if peace can't be obtained through anything other than fighting violence through violence, then it is only asstrong as the nations inside it since it just takes a backseat to the nations. If none of the nations in it actually want to do anything, then it'll just sit there. What we need to do is actually push for a resolution and say that this can't continue. Until more Americans find a greater interest in the tragedy than to say "Sudan? Where is that, anyway?" it sadly won't happen.
-
Well, nobody wants to get involved, really. We don't have the manpower or the credibility to start anything revolutionary over there, and the UN isn't really equipped for anything other than peacekeeping missions. While I think it's pretty cheesy for the UN to get into the symantics of what is genocide, at the same time I think this whole "see we told you so the UN doesn't act on anything" attitude is undeserved. The UN isn't a world military, it's a stage for diplomacy.

They can pack in as many wrestling fans as they can possibly draw in that region for WM, as well as fit in all the people from the coasts who will go because it's WM. They can charge high for the seats closer to the ring because they know people will pay for it, and they can charge peanuts for all the nosebleeds and get the attention of people who normally don't go to a wrestling show, just so that the place looks more filled. -
Defending ourselves from invaders. Democracy at gunpoint is somewhere far down the list. Not if you're going to leave hundreds of billions on my tab, thank you. If I've got problems at home, the last thing I want to do is go be everybody else's problem-solver. And what are we doing in Sudan, again? I said I'd like to see the political disaster that would occur if it failed, just to see how they try to spin their way out of it. However, it's not worth the cost of Iraq failing. I have yet to see a person associated with "the left" say that they would actually like to see Iraq's emerging government fail. Even those who protested the war most vehemently realized that once they started paying out billions for an Iraqi democracy, they should at least follow through to make sure it works.

It's not exactly like we're doing a hell of a lot over there, either.

*sigh* I wish. This place is where they put themselves on the pop culture map and made the company profitable in the long term. They need to do one more show there before the place gets torn down. Hopefully not that part, though. -
London looks like he puts on 15 years in good light. Maybe it's because on TV he looks like a child next to all the hosses. I'll say Jericho and Kendrick since all my other favorites went all ugly at one point or another.

The UN decision is absolutely fucking stupid. Bless you, UN, for ignoring all the violence and boiling the issue down to whether you can apply the word genocide to it or not. Knew you guys would come through. *groan*

West side of the continent 3 times out of the past 4 years? I don't see it. -
Those things are usually fixed as hell and STILL the HHH match didn't win.

Argh! MillenniumMan831, your avatar is a really huge download (over 2MB.) Think you could scale it down to proper size or something to make a smaller file? -
Clearly, they need Ballotman more than ever if that's true.

I don't understand why they didn't just give them POW rights in the first place. It wouldn't have caused this massive uproar and opened a quesiton of exactly what they're going to get, which is only going to be worse on the govt.

Communism was a threat to us. If it wasn't amassing a force enough that we were scared they might easily take us over, we wouldn't have fucking cared. I don't think the complaints about Iraq are because we don't like democracy, which you ever so carefully imply, but that few people think it's somehow our burden to evangelize democracy around the world with our own funds and our own people. Lastly, people wanting to see Iraq fail. Boy, you're out of it. Even I don't want to see Iraq fail. I'd like to see the political fallout that followed Iraq failing, but not at the cost.

I got to say that I like how in DelusionLand, "doesn't like Bush" = "far left." The moderates, lower-case libertarians, and fiscal conservatives don't exist. And neither do the Republicans who are fed up with the administration's ham-handed wartime leadership. They're all gone. Or are far-left. It's like this funny mental picture of a world where this whiny little 2% of protestors, hippies, Michael Moore, and liberal elite whine about Bush while 98% of the population goes on with their lives. Shyeah, right. Some candidates suffer from an ideological gap between their detractors and attractors, leaving only a few who can jump the gap and satisfy people on both sides of the divide. With Bush, the divide is the fucking Grand Canyon.

Remember all that talk about torture & rape rooms?
Jobber of the Week posted a topic in Current Events
http://www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...0347/1010/STATE Really glad we went out of our way to free the Iraqi's from Saddam's torture chambers and rape rooms so that we could run torture chambers and rape rooms of our very own design! -
I wonder how long you can go between posts that have a legitmate point To his credit, he's 5 for 5 in this thread. This thread is a fucking mess. Cheesala took a discussion about big news media and turned into a diatribe about opinionated political commentators. Mike briefly jumped into the fray to make a straw-man arguement that because INXS doesn't like Dr. Rice that it must be because she's black. KKK made an entire post without any joke or accusations of hippie. An absolute trainwreck.
-
This isn't turning out to be the violent gorefest that I was hoping for. I was expecting a couple K to bite it during this, anyway. Dozens of 'em is unrealistic, but would hammer the irony home incredibly hard.

If you download FFDshow, you can play all these files without having to download the codecs. It's an open source project that also lets you get advanced playback options, AND keep your system from getting cluttered with codecs. Almost nobody should ever have to download a codec for Divx/Xvid, or whatever other AVI codec. The only reason you need to download a real codec is if you're playing to MAKE movies, but this will work if you just want to play them. On the other hand, you will still need the codec for OGG/OGM if you plan to get those.

Frenchies propose international AIDs tax
Jobber of the Week replied to MrRant's topic in Current Events
Saw the title and thought, "Hey, if he wants to tax people in France to help fund worldwide AIDS relief, I'm down with that." This, though... Well, I'm not outraged or anything, but I do think it's pretty dumb. -
I say they give it away at Mania and then actually bring him out the next night on Raw, but not actually give it away as they did Goldberg at Mania 19 with a whole ad and video footage. Say, before the title match, that weird warped sound from the start Lesnar's entrance theme plays, and then nothing except the crowd freaking out, then the match goes on like normal. Kind of like the Taker teasers but not as blatantly obvious with the lights going out and everything.
