I'll name one current pop act and one "classic" that'll surely get me hate: Pop act: Vanessa Carlton. She makes even Norah Jones sound exciting because at least Norah Jones changes pitch from time to time. Classic: The Rolling Stones. I've heard nearly all the big ones and I don't get why all the popularity exists. Only last month did I discover a song of theirs I really liked.

I don't understand why Hollywood just keeps pushing and promoting and trying to go down with the ship. Everyone sees what happens, everyone puts 2+2 together. Almost everyone is waiting for her career to die already and she goes back to serving fries at Burger King. Drop the damn shoe already. And secondly, who keeps putting pop acts in front of sports crowds? You've got thousands of rowdy drunk guys who think it's enjoyable to heckle famous people. Put on a metal act or something they'll actually enjoy.

I don't find a guy charismatic or entertaining just because he lights cigarettes in the ring and pours beer on the canvas. Anybody could do that.

Social Security...not really doomed?
Jobber of the Week replied to jesse_ewiak's topic in Current Events
He made it very clear last night that he was a party guy after all. I figured he was going to amp up the moderate stuff after he spoke at the convention and possibly swung the election to Bush (heck, he campaigned in Ohio the night before!) He made it known in pre-convention interviews his association with Bush would cost him points in California, so he was going to hang back. And then he didn't. I assumed this was a favor to get some sort of money or attention from DC to California. But there was no reconciliatory effort once he pulled out that Tom DeLay redistricting crap. "Did you know that (x) seats went up for grabs and none of them changed parties?" That's like a polite way of saying "Waaahhh! We need more Republicans!" Perhaps he has gotten tired of dealing with the legislature and just wants to force stuff through with a party majority. He also said that status quo is a symbol of corruption or unfair elections. Appearantly the reason the legislature leans Democratic is because of the way the districts are set up, not because the people in any given district sent in more votes for the Democrat instead of the Republican. The message was VERY clear. "Get the hell out." -
Pete Wilson, the governor before Davis? I'd hope you know he's a Republican.

Begala: *Bush wisecrack* Crowd: *roar of approval* Carlson: *witty (or unwitty) retort* Crowd: *crickets chirp* *golf clap* Or: Carville: *crazy Southerner talk* Novak: *drunken-sounding slurred words* Crowd: *no-sells, silence* As much as I wish more people in the party had the spine to speak on-camera as strongly as Carville does, his manner of speech isn't good for TV. Novak/Carville shows are a disaster. Carlson/Carville shows are entertaining, because Carlson treats him like a crazy old man and acts like he can never get a word in, even when what he's trying to do is interrupt Carville's turn to talk.

Rush is the guy that compared Abu Gharib to a night on the town. I've listened to Hannity and he's.. Okay. I got a gripe about him putting a subtitle like "Defending America from Terrorists & Liberals" under his last book, but I realize it was probably put there to put a wad in the panties of people like me, and to give Republicans a chance to say "HAW HAW, look what he did!" If you really want unabashedly comical comments about how liberals are Satan's tools to destroy democracy and they must be cleansed before we become a hippie state, you need Ann Coulter. I'm not even quite convinced her routine isn't a gimmick. NOBODY can really be that brainwashed to a political "side."

Finding ECW guys who liked Paul is harder than finding guys who don't, by my impressions. Oh well, I don't want Sandman on my TV again, so yay or something.

Social Security...not really doomed?

I think we all know what each other thinks of Paul Krugman around here, being that he's known for being to the left, but this article was pretty good today because while there's some opinion thrown in there, it's got some explinations for those who don't understand why they should care. It's pretty sad to watch the State of the State tonight and hear Arnold talk about a spending problem, then sit down at the dinner table and see news and opinion pages filled with stories about how all this credit-card spending in Washington is endangering the social programs. For all the party unity and talk of conservative values, it's like these guys just don't get it. -
See, Cerebus made everything worse by making a whole THREAD about Mike. His post would have been a cause for alarm except that Jason fellow has managed to avoid bandom even though everyone who reads his posts unanimously agrees that his opinions are shit and he needs to stop posting. I don't necessarily want a revival, though. "I'm going to take the conservative stance on this issue and it's futile to argue it because the alternative is the liberal stance and liberals are always wrong, the end" sure got tiring and it's nice to be away from it, as well as not find that every thread in the forum has gotten a bump with one inane sentence followed by the guy's name.

Social Security...not really doomed?
Jobber of the Week replied to jesse_ewiak's topic in Current Events
To bust out the old train analogy, social security is the third rail of politics. If they really want to touch the third rail just when all the baby boomers are reaching retirement, nothing we can do about that. The aftershock could be felt for a while. Those boomers that felt that they had the rug pulled out of them just when they reached retirement age might not be aching to vote Republican. -
I hope someday Phelps gets hit by a bolt of lightning. We can say at the funeral that God was aiming for a gay guy but missed. And then laugh. And then piss on the headstone.

Social Security...not really doomed?
Jobber of the Week replied to jesse_ewiak's topic in Current Events
Social Security isn't doomed. If the economy is going to be as good as the Republicans are telling us it is, then we should be able to fund Social Security for at lesat fourty years. Gee, I wonder why the people who tell us the economy is going to be getting so strong are concerned about social security? Reagan solved this over twenty years ago when he appointed Greenspan to set up the trust fund. This trust fund accumulates a surplus that pays for social security. Unfortunately, Dubya has given Donald Trump and friends a tax cut, while going into costly wars with manufactured motives and throwing billions at projects like missile defense shields. When Bush tells you that Social Security can't stand on it's own legs, he's covering his ass for the fact that he drained the funds. -
California needs all the speeding ticket money we can get, and you still get a 10mph leeway from the CHP on most big freeways. I suggest is you have a problem driving slow enough to avoid police notice but fast enough to keep up with traffic, that you try to improve your driving skills by driving in Los Angeles. After all, there are no bad drivers in Los Angeles. They've all died.

Banquet meals count as food? I bought a bunch of them because they were so cheap and regretted it. Only their CORN DOG dinner was good. And it's one lousy corn dog. I'm sticking with Stouffers or Swansons next time.

Raw 1.3.05 Speculation, Reactions and Complaints
Jobber of the Week replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I honestly think they should put Trips back out on his own as a solo and put a new guy in Evolution with Batista as the main focus. The big dude with friends is always a popular stable idea, and HHH doesn't do well as the big dude because it had been established for years that he didn't need friends to be a threat or make his promos for him. -
Actually, you've been agreeing with me several times in the past couple months. I told you. Once you say it a few times, it suddently gets easier to do.
-
How about "The Greater Hollywood Mediocore Theme Parks"?
-
I didn't agree with every single thing he said there, but damn that was deserved.

GodLovesFags is an even funnier domain, because rather than point to another URL it's a religious site with a more inclusive motto that actually calls itself GodLovesFags. So they're preaching acceptance and understanding all the while using the word "Fags" in their name. Personally, I was pissed off that some dude beat me to my own URL idea, www.GodHatesFAQs.com. I'd put answers to common computer support questions there.

The sad thing about that is that they never name any GOOD charities if they decide to do an expose (agenda or no agenda) on "bad" ones. "America's government doesn't need to donate because it's people are so generous! And coming up, America's charities are fucking around with your money! Next on LOL NEWS!"

I approve. -
Copy protection prevents you from making straight up images, I believe. This has been going on for years now. This is the reason programs like Alcohol 120% exist, is to make copies of software discs that otherwise bug out if you just try to make a copy in Nero or something.

Can't load automated processes on websites
Jobber of the Week replied to Slickster's topic in Technology
First, if you can, get away from WinMe as soon as possible. It's one of the worst Windows OS systems. 98b is likely better. XP is definitely better. In the meantime, use this to scan for malicious browser programs and this to scan for viruses. Last of all, I can't really tell for sure what's wrong with your browser because all the tasks you listed use different methods. The "takes you to the last post in the thread" thing is accomplished by an "anchor" in HTML (you ever notice the # symbols at the end of a URL?) that scrolls down to that part of the page when loaded. I don't know anything about converting files to PDF format (huh?), but that's probably a function of Adobe Acrobat. And page redirects are done through an HTML forward. Since all these situations are so different, you may wish to scrap IE and use FireFox instead. Even if you don't want to stop using IE forever, you should at least be reasonable "safe" from problems if you switch browsers until you can get around to a system wipe. I reccomend the system wipe because if you're encountering any kind of flaws while dealing with credit card information, that's a BAD thing.
