Bruins win 4-3 on a floater tipped in by Sturm in overtime. They led 2-0, gave up two, got one back, gave that back and then won in OT. Last season, they lose this game 6-2. Instead, they continue to forecheck in the third period(!) and grind out a win against a team that haunted them last season without Bergeron. This weekend will be very, very tough with the home and home against Ottawa and an slightly injured Fernandez being unavailable. The very thought of Jordan Sigalet starting against Ottawa scares me. Hopefully Fernandez watches where he's walking in practice and learns from this.

    Pizza Hut

Lazy. Take out specials from small places are great. There's a place not far from us that has a large pepperoni & 2 liter of coke for $4.50 during the week. I never liked Pizza Hut much. Has anyone been to their new "Pizza Hut Italian Bistro" restaurants? It looks like they've decided to ruin things other than pizza.

    Commissioner for a day

it wouldnt have to be the Brewers but if a team does move from the NL to the AL, which I think should happen, the Brewers should have the right of first refusal since they were in the AL. If they choose to stay in the NL, move a team that does not have much tradition in the NL like the D-Backs, Nats, or Marlins (especially if they move from miami in a few years like the rumors i have heard) It's been beaten to death, but: AL: 14 teams. NL: 16 teams. Both leagues need to have an even number of teams for scheduling purposes. Unless we want to start interleague play all season (god no), both leagues need to have even numbers. There's no need to move any team out of or into either league right now. Period.

Eh, I don't know if I'd call it "dirty". Randy Jones was committed to the hit, and Bergeron put on the brakes at the last second as he was leaning over. Bergeron kinda put himself in a bad position. Jones isn't a dirty player, and it's not like he took a run at the guy, so I'd call it more "unfortunate" and/or "dangerous" than I'd call it "dirty". The first thing they teach you is to not hit guys when they are in that position and in that spot on the ice. The Flyers organization is fucking bush league. Downie, Boulerice and now Jones. Something needs to be done. Although Jones should give the officials large amounts of cash for throwing him out of the game. He would have been annihilated by someone. Oh, Bergeron just regained consciousness at Mass General. The scariest moment in recent Bruins history: Here's the youtube.

That fight showed more tenacity than Chara showed all of last season. He'll be doing things like that every now and then.

    The Harry Potter Spoilers Thread

I think it makes sense when you consider that when he and Grindlewald parted ways, not only did they break up, but Dumbledore lost his sister. I would think that the loss of his lover and his sister on the same day would tend to make him want to stay alone for the rest of his life.

So you saw the game? I missed the majority of it, but deduced Montreal just badly outplayed Fernandez and the B's defence. There's at least something to be said if they lost whilst outshooting the Habs by 15. I think Fernandez is still hurt, but a majority of the Bruins' problems is a lack of personnel. Regardless of the Rags game on saturday, the defense needs a legit #2 guy. Aaron Ward is not the answer. He's a nice second pairing guy to have, good in the room, a capable PK'er, but he's not a #2 defenseman. Who else do the Bruins have that can step in? Andrew Alberts has looked terrible this season. Andrew Ference is a good second pairing guy at best. Dennis Wideman can't stay on his own two feet. Mark Stuart is still rough around the edges. Essentially, the Bruins defense revolves around Chara doing everything that he did last year, and stepping up his physical play in less minutes. I saw most of the game. I gave up at 4-0.

Why would a television company (FOX) sell teeshirts? All I can hope for is for the series to go six or seven. I want the Red Sox to win at home.

I struck out a counselor at a summer camp baseball game. He had had a small minor league baseball stint a few years prior. I was 14 (it was my last year at this camp) and had made the city all-star team (as a third baseman) and had just taught myself how to throw a slider. So, this camp had a giant field that they used for soccer, capture-the-flag, football, etc. At this one end of the field they set up a half-assed backstop, dropped a home plate there and ripped up three patches of grass on the infield for "bases". Now, I was a typical 14 year old asshole kid, running my mouth and throwing fastballs at kids a few years younger than me. In an effort to shut me up, he took a bat and proclaimed that he was going "to hit a homerun so far that it will never land". So, he stepped up to the backstop (no catcher) and the fight was on. I threw my changeup first pitch and he fouled it off to the left so far that I don't think they've ever found the ball in the woods. Second pitch I threw my fastball, which he got a piece of straight back foul. He then fouled off three more fastballs and a changeup before I "unleashed" my slider, which he laughed at as it bounced three feet before the "plate". So I threw it again and he swung as hard as he could...missing by about a foot as the bottom completely fell out of it. I spent the rest of the summer gloating and calling him various sporty names for a power hitter.

Bruins and Rags had a damn good 1-0 shootout game. Fernandez looked like the goalie that the Bruins paid dearly to get, Kessel closed another shootout (he's won five shootouts already in his career) and the defense looked very, very good at times. Bruins v. Habs on monday on wonderful VSHD.

Bruins stole one from the Sharks. Bergeron scored on a nice play near the end of the first, kicking the puck to himself in traffic while being assaulted by Rob Davison. Then the Bruins didn't get a shot on goal for the entire second period. The Sharks tied it with 38 seconds, but the Bruins got a gift bounce off of a referee and scored with 11 seconds left. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

They looked slightly better at times, however. There was definitely an edge to their game. There was shoving after whistles, solid checks on the forecheck and Chara played very well. I hope Lucic stays with the big boys too. He played a good game.

Yeah, well the Bruins signed Glen Metropolit to a 1/1 500K contract. Certainly could have used him last year.

NHL Preseason and Predictions - 2007-08

The Bruins dealt Mark Mowers to the Ducks for Nathan Saunders and Brett Skinner. While it may not be big time league news, this speaks volumes about Chiarelli addressing his mistakes that he's made in the last year. Mowers wasn't the problem, but a lot of people close to the team wondered why he got the ice time that he got last season when it was clear that more talented players were sitting on the bench. Dave Lewis was the main problem and Chiarelli addressed that issue by giving ol' Hitlerstache the boot one year after signing him to a four year contract. I've railed on Dave Lewis before on this board, so I'll keep it simple. I do not understand his in-game decision making. I do not understand how he gets players who play with a lot of passion to quit on him in December. I do not understand how he was absolved of the blame that led to two good, young players being shipped out because he had no idea how to use them. At least Chiarelli understood that going long-term, Lewis was clearly not the coach for this team. He recognized that a good coach was out there (Julien) with a good amount of success playing the style of hockey that Chiarelli is trying to build the Bruins into. Mowers being moved simply puts a period at the end of the Dave Lewis era. While Mowers certainly wasn't the problem, he was the picture of the problem that was behind the Bruins bench. The Bruins addressed a need with the return as well. While both guys are longshots to ever make an impact in the NHL, both address a need of tough defensemen at the AHL level that the Bruins had. Saunders in particular fits that bill. And the fact that Chiarelli managed to turn Mowers, who wasn't likely going to even make the NHL team into two young prospects with some limited upside is a very good sign. They're far away from being NHL ready, but to turn an aging forward into two young, talented defensemen isn't something to sneeze at. Also, Cameron Neely was named VP of the Bruins today. He'll assist in hockey operations as well as other team functions. For the fans, this is something that the Bruins should have been doing a long time ago: Bringing in recognizable names from the past (Don Sweeney doesn't count) to be associated with the current team. You see it with other NHL teams and teams in other sports and it's high time that the Bruins finally jumped on board. The Bruins Kool-Aid is looking tastier and tastier as we move forward.
