In 2003 as well. A lot of fans felt that he should have come in for Pedro. Timlin's been done since about June, it's just more noticeable now that Francona has to use him.
  4. Maybe they should go back to having six teams again (or a few more) with players sticking to a team. That will create more passion for team sports. That newfound passion won't last long when the league goes bankrupt.
  5. It's still a team if you're rooting for the team and not the name on the back.
  6. Geography for me. I grew up supporting just about every Boston area team, even the Celtics (I hate basketball). Once we moved to Florida, I took an interest in the Marlins, D+Rays, Lightning and Panthers. I follow them as a passing interest rather than a diehard. As far as other hockey teams, I liked Ottawa because I liked some of their players. I still like some of their players, but I don't like the way they handled the Chiarelli situation and now hate the team. I don't like the Bruins' rivals (Rags, Habs, Leafs) either. Other than that, I like just about every team. But I only want the Bruins to win. Probably doesn't make any sense. And Bill Simmons made a good point a few years ago when he said that the only reason to change allegiance was because you were moving to a new part of the country (California to New York) or if the team does something so unforgivable (moving the team, trading a generational talent) that it forces you to another team.

    NHL 2006 Off-Season...

The hardest thing was trying to watch Gill try to cover Jagr. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=176820&hubname= Ryan Miller signs a three-year deal with Buffalo.

Nice of him to try now. Didn't stop him from being a fucking pylon last season. I hope he tries to start shit with Chara again.

Howard is older (by two months), according to Baseball-Reference.com. This is a key point. A friend asked me a month ago about Howard's HoF chances. I told him Howard has a snowball's chance in hell. Only one Hall of Fame position player (Sam Rice) became a regular at 25 or older. But few players are EVER as good in their careers as Howard is right now. Unless I slept for a decade last night, doesn't Howard have to repeat this season just a few more times before he's considered a Hall of Famer?

    Reporters gets fucked up!

He got what he deserved for being a smarmy prick to the wife. The people in question are scumbags, but he was being an asshole and got his ass handed to him. I find it funnier that the cameraman didn't do anything to help, he just stood there and filmed like an idiot.

    Question about wireless

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tips/wifi.htm Get a PDA with WiFi. The only issue would be if you don't have any hotspots around where you are. Mobile data services (internet whereever) are expensive and you pay for data transmission, not a flat fee per month. If you're using a PDA, you're better off getting a nice one with WiFi built-in and spending the extra cash there.

    NHL 2006 Off-Season...

Northwest: Calgary- Iginla looks like he has help now, which is certainly appreciated. I don't like their depth, but if they can stay injury-free, they're going to be good. Minnesota- I really like what they've done this off-season. Not the biggest moves or biggest names, but good moves nonetheless. Edmonton- Somehow I think they just miss the playoffs. They have talent and Roloson will try to prove that he can do it all again. Colorado- I'm not sold on Theodore being the guy. He's still coasting on the great year he had five years ago. And Colorado needs to make a move, I think. I don't trust their depth either. Vancouver- Luongo doesn't help them on offense. Pacific: San Jose- Yeah, fuck you too Joe. He gets traded and plays like a completely different player than he did in Boston. I like San Jose a lot though. Anaheim- Lotso dough tied up in two players. They'll rely heavily on a few young guys to step in and kick ass. Los Angeles- I think Blake helps them immensely (and he'd better for $6million) and they have some pretty good young guys to step in. They won't make the playoffs, but they'll do OK. Phoenix- They've done things that I like and things that I don't understand at all. Bringing in Boynton is a plus for them, he brings leadership and a team-first mentality to the club...plus he's a pretty good player to boot. I don't understand bringing Roenick back though. I think he's done and he'll end up being more of a distraction than anything. Also, if they do anything resembling success, Gretzky wins the Jack Adams. Dallas- I have absolutely no faith in Turco. I never have and I never will. They've hitched their wagon to him and I just can't see it happening. Central: Nashville- Arguably the best team on paper. They're a pretty solid looking team on paper. They had an impressive showing last season, but ultimately met their doom when Vokoun went down. He's healthy now and they've brought in solid veterans Arnott and Dumont. They have two standout players waiting to boom in Weber and Suter. I think they're the most dangerous team in the conference. Detroit- They're not as good without Yzerman, even when he didn't play. They'll have a down year, but still make the playoffs as a mid-low seed. Chicago(!)- They have the offense, a young defense and a solid, if not overrated, goaltender. They need a leader though and ownership is asleep to that. That being said, Havlat finally gets a chance to shine and I think he challenges for the Art Ross. Columbus- Punching bag, yes. But they have some talent. Still waiting for Nash to show what he's really made of. I like the Modin trade, since I really like Modin's game, but I think they gave up a pretty good goaltender. And they've rested their hopes this season on a 35 game NHL veteran and Ty Conklin. See you next year. St. Louis- I don't like the make-up of this team at all. A lot of veterans that got a year slower and a bunch of youngsters hoping to learn from the examples of Tkachuck and Guerin. Ooo. Not good. Atlantic: New York- They have a goaltender in a really great position. They have their issues on offense and defense, but they have that one player on each side of the puck that is capable of carrying the team for a while. I'm speaking of course about the Rangers. I like the Aaron Ward signing. Philadelphia- Good showing from their young talent last year until they were smoked out in the playoffs by superior goaltending. Then again, a 10 year old in Mylec pads is better than Robert Esche. They'll never win anything significant with him in the net. New Jersey- Cap Hell 101. Lucky Louie is going to have to pull the magical solution out of his ass. And when that happens, they just don't have enough besides Brodeur to do any real damage. Pittsburgh- Not yet. New York- What a mess. I don't think they crack 30 points. Southeast: Carolina- Best team in the East, even after signing Tanabe. Tampa Bay- They have a good goaltender now, I think Tortorella is on the hot seat. Atlanta- I'll say what I will about Marc Savard, but Kovalchuk and Hossa will miss those passes. They have the goaltending though, if Lehtonen stays healthy. Florida- Hopefully South Florida calms Bertuzzi down. Goaltending and defense are the issue with this team now. Auld and Belfour...I think Belfour gets hurt early and Auld is forced to carry the load. On defense, they have Boumeester and Van Ryn and Allen isn't too bad, but they need a good veteran defenseman. Washington- ""I’m going to play as much time as they give me. I’m only 20, and I have a wagon and a carriage full of power." "When I have a chance to shoot, I like to shoot it. I love scoring goals. But I'm trying to help the team win games. If we win and I score, I'm really happy." Northeast: Buffalo- Best goaltender in the division, one of the best defenses in the conference and an offense that scores when it needs to. Good things, all. Ottawa- World class effort from Redden, Alfredsson, Spezza and Heatley leads them into the playoffs. Gerber gets a lot of crap from people, but he's underrated. Boston- Fuck you, homer pick. The defense is among the best in the conference. Chara brings instant leadership to a team that so lacked it last season. They dropped most of the useless veterans and AHL All-Stars from last year and replaced them with solid young players. They have one of the best defensive lines in the game (Axelsson-Primeau-Donovan) and a pretty good second line scoring duo (Savard-Murray). Bergeron will be out to prove that he's no fluke and Boyes will start playing for his next contract. Goaltending is fine, as far as I'm concerned. Toivonen got hurt on a fluke injury last season but put up fine numbers before the injury. He comes in now and plays behind a much, much better defense. Thomas assumes a backup role that will be perfect for him. Montreal- Depending on catching lightning in a bottle again with Huet? Sounds like what they did with Theodore in the past...Defense? Outside of Markov? Ouch... Toronto- Rebuilding year. Best of luck to Raycroft. Overall, I think people are sleeping on the Bruins (perhaps rightfully so), but I'll be happy when they play well this season. They have an outside shot of sneaking into the playoffs.

I'm thinking of starting a petition to allow the Red Sox to face only NL East teams for the remainder of the season.

Martin takes over, which means that the team will be great until pushed physically. Then they'll shut down and get blown out. Really a wild story though.
