While I don't think that the old guard is staying completely silent, I think this is Gorton and Chiarelli trying to add a veteran winger that has actually won a Cup, can tutor their younger players in the ways of winning and being successful and is willing to stand up for his teammates. I also agree with you in terms of making a final offer. Depth, mostly. He can play in Providence and be a solid contributor to the fourth line when needed.

Can you blame him? He's likely not figuring into whatever Muckler has done this off-season, they don't trust him with their cap since he'll be moving to a divisional rival and he's probably not sitting in on any contract extension meetings. So why keep him? Just a real unprofessional way of handling it by Ottawa. Take the pick and let him move on. They managed to take a fucking SECOND ROUNDER in next year's draft. Ugh. I hope the Bruins are really able to put the screws to Ottawa next year as a bit of payback.

They're not in a position to be offering 5 million to anyone right now. Especially since they need to get their RFA's signed. Boyes and Bergeron are thankfully being patient and waiting for Chiarelli to get released from his Ottawa captors so that he can run negotiations with them. Shanahan is allegedly down to six teams. Kings, Bruins, Wings, Blues, and two others. Most of them are offering him the same contract. I just hope he doesn't pick the Bruins...

Apparently Gorton and Chiarelli are pining over a 2 year 9.8 million dollar contract (4.9/yr). ... ... what the fuck.
-
Knowing what Shanahan is demanding from the Bruins in terms of a contract, he can go fuck himself.

Crede has 9. Hafner has 26.

Good for you. It's still one of the best dramas on network television. Yeah but the show is doing the same thing every year. Jack saves the world. Again and again. Season 1 was the peak and it has dipped since then. ... That's the premise of the show, dude. While the writing quality has suffered, it's still arguably the best drama on network television. Season 1 was my favorite season, but you shouldn't completely discount the other four seasons because they're different in style and syntax.

X The 2002 Red Wings are quite possibly the best team to win the Cup in the last 15 years. They could have had a fucking barrel playing net street hockey style and they would have still won the Cup. Osgood is the most overrated goaltender in the NHL. Khabibulin is inconsistant, but he at least was a good enough piece of the machine in Tampa. Osgood was along for the ride. Detroit had Hasek in net that year. The '98 Wings, who Osgood started for throughout the entire year, are no slouches either. Mike Vernon was the playoff starter for the 1997 champs. good gravy, I got the teams mixed up.

My girlfriend's reaction could best be described as "lukewarm" for this, so I'll probably see it by myself. I'll make sure to watch Clerks before I go as well, so I can get into full snob mode for this.

Good for you. It's still one of the best dramas on network television. While he's a longshot, I'm glad Meloni got nominated for LAIADS. I think the nomination is solely based on two episodes from this past season (Ripped, when he had his breakdown and Fat, when he faced Olivia for the first time after his fight with Blaine). Jean Smart is a great nomination as well. She annoyed me at first, but after re-watching the season on dvd, I must say that she was a bright spot. Especially the finale.

I think Lucky Louie somehow keeps Gomez.

Bye Tanabe. Thanks for the...uh...well...they dumped Scatchard's salary in that trade. Bell, Calder, Vandermeer and Morrisonn are underrated players. Bell and Calder have been stuck playing in Chicago. I want Morrisonn back after he was given away for Gonchar. Vandermeer is a good team player as well.

Agreed on all three counts. Also wouldn't mind seeing Gaustad in the black and gold. If Connolly can get over his concussion issues, he'll be a steal on someone's second or third line.

Andrew Peters might be one of the odd men out of Buffalo. If Shanahan doesn't pan out, I wouldn't mind the Broons getting Peters to be their punch in the face contest participant. I'd've preferred Laraque, but he went to the Dogs.

Looks like the B's are out of the Shanahan sweepstakes. Shanahan is asking for 5.5 million. That's not a typo. The Bruins were the first to offer 4 million, which made me throw up in my mouth a little. The teams left are apparently the Bruins, Kings and Senators, but if Gorton doesn't pull the offer off the table and kindly tell Shanahan to take a long walk off a short pier, I will not be a happy boy.

Just like the saying goes, "mess with the bull and...he punches a cop."

It's one of the best photographs ever taken, period.

I think Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan and Boof Bonser for A.J. Pierzynski was a worse trade. I could mention a couple of other trades as the worst of all-time. 1. Boston trades Jeff Bagwell for Astros aging relief pitcher Larry Anderson. To be fair, Andersen went undefeated for the stretch run into the playoffs (allowing only 3 runs in 22IP) and helped the Sawx win the East. At the time, they had future hall of famer Wade Boggs at third, so moving Bagwell to third wasn't an option. They also had future Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Champion Mo Vaughn at first, and Bagwell was ranked behind Vaughn in the organizational depth chart and was traded merely a year after being drafted.

Blues got Guerin Apparently the Bruins are talking to Shanahan. I'd like to see him come to Boston, as that would give them a great winger to compliment the offense as well as an enforcer. Chara is the closest thing they have to one and I'm not a fan of paying 7.5mill/season for an enforcer. They're going to need one to keep other teams from ganging up on the smaller guys (Boyes, Bergy, Savard, etc.). If Shanahan falls through, I wouldn't mind seeing them go after Laraque.

Well, they lost McCauley, who I would have loved to see in black and gold, but signed Donovan instead. I like both players and am glad to have Donovan as part of the team. I'd like to see them go after Cajanek or Halpern next. Right now (assuming they re-up with the usual suspects): Sturm-Savard-Murray Boyes-Bergeron-Donovan Axelsson-Primeau-? ?-?-? Chara-Mara Stuart-Stuart Jurcina-Alberts A lot hinges on what happens with Shamnov though. If they can get him off the cap for the duration of his contract, it's like having Savard for free (which is about what he's worth). Overall, they're at around 32 million for 11 players. Take Shamnov out, add in a few extra dollars for whatever free agents they bring in (if any more), plus the contracts of their RFA's and they'll likely get up to ~39-40 million, I think.

Fuck. I like Alyn McCauley.

John's reaction upon hearing of the Marc Savard signing: NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO The knocks on Savard read as: lazy, poor defender and no work ethic. He now makes four million a season. Great. The Chara signing made my day a bit better though. Solidified the defense. Happy to see him replace Gill.
