The Sharks still have to turn things around, otherwise this will be a waste of a trade for them as well. Losing Stuart is a blow for them, but...well...while they have MOC on their recent call list....maybe they want Gill too...

Sturm's older than Thornton. So is Primeau. Stuart is the same age. They traded a 26 year old borderline franchise player for depth. I just cannot understand it.

    The NHL Thread

Funny, I just made a simular trade in my NHL06 dynasty that consisted of Joe going to the Sharks for a few players, including a defenseman. Unfortunately for myself and Bruins fans my trade was not exactly like this. As it turns out, they got the wrong centerman in the trade, the wrong Primeau and the defenseman that San Jose had that I didn't want. In other words, it's my game and I don't like getting raped. Basically, if you're going to make this move, you need to at least come close to replacing who you are trading. If you're trading a borderline franchise player, you at least expect to get something back that might resemble anything. I made numerous trade suggestions in the NHL off-season thread to San Jose, but taking their second line players in exchange for the biggest offensive gun was not what I had in mind. If MOC had given this at least some thought, he would have at least gotten Marleau. Marleau, Sturm and Stuart is fine. At least you're at least making an effort to replace Joe's on-again/off-again offensive responsibilities with essentially the same enigmatic player who scores goals in bunches. But what they got here was a very streaky player in Sturm, a checking line player (don't have enough of those apparently) in Primeau and a very good defenseman in Stuart (although if Hannan was on the block as rumored, I'd have rather had him.) Does this change the makeup of the team? Duh. Gamewise, they instantly lose Murray's setup man and size and depth at the center position. Who centers the top line now? Boyes? Bergeron? Zhamnov? Sturm helps a bit and might play well with Samsonov (especially on the PP unit with Bergeron), Primeau just gets cluttered in with PJ, Green, Fitzgerald and Isbister as more checking line talent that they don't need. Stuart brings instant credibility to a blueline that needs it so bad that I was wondering why Jurcina wasn't playing last night. He instantly makes Dallman expendable. Either move him to the wing as he is perfect for size-wise or send him to Providence. Stuart and Tanabe might make a good pairing. In closing, I've been waiting for Joe to get dealt, but I'm sad to see him go. Especially for the players that he was dealt for. There was potential there to get a few players that might actually help the Bruins pull their heads out of their asses and start playing good hockey again, but MOC seemed to get talked into this one. Sharks fans get an extremely gifted player (when he wants to be) and the Bruins get two decent forwards and the defenseman that they've sorely needed. Too bad it had to come at this price.

    Harry Potter Movies

That just doesn't make any sense. Especially with your line of reasoning being "You know Hollywood." Yeah, they are looking for sure money right now. Keeping the same actors for the same franchise of movies as the audience grows up with them (for the most part) is a license to print money as far as everyone is concerned. It'd be like, "If you liked the first two Lord of the Rings...be sure to see the third and final movie as Frodo will be played by Kieran Culkin!" Just doesn't make sense.

Huselius is a good player, no doubt. Just a little soft. The Kings could certainly use him. McEachern is as good as done.

In name-value only. If you want to pay a guy a million a year to do nothing, sign Shawn McEachern. If you want a soft but gifted player, get Kristian Huselius. Thibault is sporting a gaa in the mid 4's and a sv% of 88. His only claim to fame is that he was traded with other players for Patrick Roy.

Chris: The Bruins had a 2-0 lead early in the second, when they decided that it would be a great time to stop trying to score more goals. So, they were outshot 17-4 the remainder of the second, with Razor only allowing one goal in the period despite leaving rebounds on attacking players' sticks many times. Going into the third, they started with a bit of a spark, but Hal Gill pinched up when he shouldn't have, leading to a 2-on-1 break. Pandolfo fired a shot, Raycroft kicked out a rebound that Marshall slid in to tie it. This seemed to wake the Bruins up, but with thirty seconds left, Madden won a draw and Mogilny won the game.

    The NHL Thread

I cannot understand why Hal Gill gets the type of minutes that he gets. The guy is a third pairing dman at best. His biggest strength is getting in shooting lanes and blocking shots (he blocked a few while shorthanded). But that's because he's essentially anchored in the zone and can't leave it. Once he's left to his own devices is when the trouble starts. He's stayed remarkably close to the +/-0 mark all season, but it's worse than it seems. Why he's up, logging 20 minutes a game while Jurcina gets the boot down to the AHL is beyond me. At least Jurcina can play his fucking position. And a brilliant idea by MOC and company, waiving Colton Orr, who winds up where? With the Rangers! Yay! The only guy that plays with fucking heart night in and night out gets let go, but the rest of the tin-man team skates on without a purpose, blowing leads and playing with no passion whatsoever. But still, money is tied up in players that are either underacheiving (Zhamnov...although I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he missed most of the season so far with a shoulder injury, Boynton) or won't be back next year (Samsonov) but there are no deals being made. No rumored trades to bring in help of any kind. MOC built the boat and now he's watching it sink...and doing nothing about it.

    Michael Irving Arrested

He was pulled over for speeding. At which point the officer told him that he had a warrant out for his arrest on the grounds of not paying a prior speeding ticket. I guess since he had a warrant out, this gives them the right to search the car? (I'm asking. I have no idea.)

Idiot things heard on sports radio

Mike and Mike are OK. I either listen to the entire show or I can't stand them. Depends on my mood, I suppose. I have grown to like Cowherd. Sure, he only talks about football. But when he talks about other things (his family, other subjects than sports) he's hilarious. He had a rant on the Atkins Diet that had me almost driving off the road, I was laughing so hard. Dan Patrick is the same way. When he gets on his high horse about something, it dominates his show, which is annoying. For three weeks, all that fucker talked about was Terrell Owens...it got to the point that I wanted to just throw my radio out the goddamn window. When he has on celebrity guests or recurring athletes (Reggie Miller, for instance is a good guest) his show is fine. As for local boys, I have a morning guy that was average. Good for driving, especially since he actually talked about hockey and baseball and sounded interested. My ESPN affiliate picks up The Herd and DP from 10-3. The final hour of DP is cut off by the afternoon/drive-time guy. He is the reason that I spent $100+ on a Sirius radio. I cannot stand the man. The final straw was an entire segment in which he tried to talk like Bob Marley in a humiliating attempt to mock Rickey Williams. Only problem? He couldn't do a Jamaican accent, he sounded like Dracula or something. This went on for 15-20 minutes, during his mock draft (he took calls all week for a mock NFL draft) that ended up being one of the most amusing or incredibly stupid radio ideas ever. In this NFL draft, most of the people representing these teams made trades and got drunk off their asses at a sports bar while live on air. By the end of the show it was just a giggling mess of ridiculousness that left me questioning my will to live. That mock NFL draft bypasses any stupid thing that anyone will ever hear on sports radio.

So wait, even by giving up major league players (granted that Arroyo may be a better singer than a pitcher and that's not saying much) they're still wrong? The difference is that the Yankees used to throw money at the problem and in the past, burned their farm system for a quick fix, relying on older players and one year wonders. The Red Sox made the Schilling trade, giving up five prospects and taking on Schilling's salary. The theoretical trade for Torrrriiiiii Hunter? Brandon and Youk get sent away (Youk is well liked, I don't know about Brandon) and I'd assume that the Red Sox pick up the contract. The difference is that the Red Sox identify a need and use what they have in their system (be it money or talent) to go about fixing the problem.

    X-Mas List...

I would imagine that they just want the radio, as that's expensive enough with some of them (specifically the one I want from XM that's like 200-250$). Activation and first month are all that is required when you first start it up. You can go into yearly/six month plans from there.

So you wouldn't make a trade for a future hall of fame player because you don't want to give up a #3 starter?

    Black Friday Hijinx

There were no doorbuster savings to be had by us today, as nothing looked worthy of the girlfriend getting up at 430 in the morning to save a few bucks on something. We'll probably do all of our shopping online this year. S-M-R-T, especially based on her almost getting into a slapfight with some broad at the grocery store earlier this week when this woman reached into our cart and tried to grab our turkey.
