I don't like how spiteful the Boston media has gotten. It's almost like they want the Red Sox to lose so they'll be able to write scathing articles about trading Manny, ripping Schilling, or ripping the front office. I've been disappointed in this team this year as well, but they gave me one of the greatest feelings that a sports team has ever given me. It was hope, happiness, relief and glory all rolled into one. And I'd like to think that something like that would stick with people. Like I said, this team has been very inconsistant all year long. They've had opportunities to slam the door on the Yankees, but they keep leaving it open with another defensive miscue by E. Renteria (I swear, he needs to drop the 'dgar' from his first name) or another lacklustre pitching performance by Clement/Schilling/Wells/Miller/Arroyo/Foulke. In the end though, this series is huge, but if the Red Sox don't end up making it, it's not on the Yanks. It's not on the Tribe. It's on them. They have had the chances. This is their biggest and best. The arch-rival on the home field. If they can't do it now, they don't deserve another chance.

I love David Ortiz. This felt like a playoff game. I haven't really gotten into games this season like I did tonight. Manny's homer was HUGE. A perfect time for him to bust out of his funk. Obviously, Ortiz's blast in the 8th was awesome. But Jonathan Papelbon continues to show that he belongs here. Even after the double to Hinske in the 9th, he settled down and got Zaun to pop out. NESN showed him calmly walking off the mound, like he was unfazed. This weekend series will decide who goes to the playoffs. I think Cleveland throws everything they have at the White Sox, giving them the wildcard and leaving the Red Sox/Yanks loser as the odd team out.

So, rather than give any credit where it is due (He's marched them downfield twice in the biggest game of the year), it's just luck? I disagree.

I don't know how the NBA works it, but usually an RFA can sign with another team if his present team doesn't match the offer. The present team gets a draft pick or two in return.

They need his physicality and skating. However, has Nick proven himself enough to make 2 million a year? Don't get me wrong, he's a very good player but really, 2 million a year for Nick Boynton? Get to camp, Nick. 1.75 million is a very good one year contract. He's not eligible for UFA for another two years.

sfaJack, that sounds like what happened at my place during Charley. We got a Cat4 here, but we were the only house on the street to not suffer severe roof damage. We were without electricity for almost six days. Sounds like you missed the brunt of the storm and you're lucky.

I'm glad that it looks like it's probably going to be either Red Sox OR Yanks in the playoffs, not both. I'm obviously a Red Sox fan, but really. Do we really need another LCS between the teams? I think I'm down the road to having a heart-attack at 25 years old if they play another dramatic LCS (which it would be, of course). Don't get me wrong, I like good baseball, but there's plenty of it to be had elsewhere and without FOX foaming at the mouth and ready with Star Wars videos and Tim McCarver calling Bronson Arroyo "Brandon" numerous times and then suggesting that Brandon's start AGAINST Pedro Martinez in game 2 would be the biggest start of his career. Stuff like that drives me up a wall. FOX makes the games practically unwatchable and I'll be more than happy to enjoy baseball being played, even if it means no Red Sox v. Yanks in the LCS.

I wish I could watch some preseason hockey. Sunshine Network has been reairing (and reairing...and reairing...) their player profiles on the Lightning's big 4 (St. Louis, Lecavalier, Richards, Andreychuk) since the middle of july 2004. I can recite most of these episodes now. Also, they've played exactly two games (over and over and over again). SCF game 6 (St. Louis's winner in Calgary forces game 7) and SCF game 7. This is all the hockey I have right now. I'd kill for even a Panthers game.

Know what's funny? The Marlins and Rockies paid for most of Hampton's contract. Not the Braves. He went from the Mets to the Astros to the Rockies to the Marlins THEN to the Braves. It was Colorado who signed Hampton to the 8 year/121 million dollar contract. Hampton played for them for two years and was traded to Florida (Colorado ate 49 million dollars of it to get rid of him). This was where he was traded to the Braves (The Marlins ate 30 millon of the deal). The Braves were only financially responsible for 5.5 million total (for three seasons!)up until next year (06) when they take on the rest of the contract not covered by the Rockies and Marlins. In other words, starting next year, they pay him 13.5 million, 14.5 million in 07 and 15 million in 08. So in other words, he will probably be traded at the end of this season.

Obviously this is a pressing issue. Why must everything be so fucking PC? What are they supposed to do? Does that cover all the bases or are the letters being black and making up less than 50% of the ad space showing that black people aren't important in the hockey world and the NHL are racist? And there's no pink or other girlish colors in the ad, therefore stating that women are physically unable to play hockey, right? People like her piss me off. It's obvious to me that these ads are trying to show hockey for what it is; One of the most physically demanding sports in the world. The act of dressing a guy up to "go to battle" isn't offensive in war times? Or have I just opened up an entirely different can of worms?

Deadmarsh was a solid player. Good defensively and a force for the Avs teams in the late 90's. Hard to believe that he was a first round draft pick though.
